Auditions for the 2007-08 Dance Team are beginning soon and we thought we should address some questions that came up last year.
Where do I go when I arrive at FedExForum?
There will be signs and people directing you to the correct entrance once you enter the FedExForum Grand Lobby.
How many dancers will be selected?
Between12-20 Dancers.
How many spots are open?
Technically all of them. All current Dancers are required to re-audition.
How many people usually audition?
We expect over a hundred women at the audition. Between 25 and 30 applicants are taken to the final round.
I can’t be there for the August 11 auditions? Is there any other way to audition?
No. Due to the high volume of applicants, we do not have any further auditions nor do we accept video submissions.
Do you have any advice for preparation or are there pre-audition classes where I could learn the audition routine in advance?
Yes, these pre-audition classes are held prior to auditions. Sessions generally run for two hours and are optional, however attendance is strongly recommended. Learn more about the Pre-Audition Prep Classes.
What are your height or weight requirements?
There are no specific height or weight requirements, though applicants should be in shape and in top physical condition.
Where can I park for auditions?
The Ford Parking Garage adjacent to FedExForum will be open. There may be a fee for parking so be prepared.
What will the judges look for in dancers at the auditions?
Judges will look at your appearance, showmanship, dance ability, physical condition, poise, energy, and personality.
Where will the pre-audition classes and first round auditions be held?
All pre-audition classes as well as the first round audition will be held at the Methodist Healthcare Practice Facility at FedExForum. The location of final auditions will be announced at a later date.
Will the auditions be open to the public?
First Round auditions will be closed to the public. Final auditions will be open.
Do current team members have to re-audition?
Yes, returning members must go through the audition process each season. Their spots on the team are not guaranteed. Unless they are current Grizzlies Dance Team members who are entering their 5th season with the team will not have to participate in the first round portion of the audition, unless otherwise notified by Grizzlies management.
What type of things will I have to do for auditions?
Audition routines will consist of jazz, technical and hip hop styles.
What can I expect for the interview process?
Be prepared to introduce yourself and provide an overview of your background, education and goals.
What should I do to prepare for auditions?
Interested applicants are encouraged to be in top physical shape. Physical fitness is a plus! Participants are encouraged to enroll in dance classes and or attend the pre-audition classes.
What is the time commitment for being a Grizzlies Dancer? Is it a full-time job?
A Grizzlies Dancer schedule is very busy. A total commitment is required. The time commitment is usually 10-12 hours a week for rehearsal and promotional appearances in addition to the home games. Dancers are paid on a per-game and per-appearance basis. Dancing for the Grizzlies is not a full-time job.
