Grizzlies Staxtacular 2014 to take place on January 18

MEMPHIS, January 6, 2014 – The Memphis Grizzlies and the Soulsville Foundation announced today that Staxtacular 2014, presented by SunTrust, to benefit the Stax Music Academy, will take place at the Stax Museum (926. E. McLemore Ave. Memphis 38106) on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 7 p.m. until the lights go out. The 10th annual soul-shaking event is the largest fund-raiser of the year for Stax Music Academy and takes place after last year’s highly successful, multi-category record-breaking event.

Memphis Grizzlies’ guards Tony AllenMike Conley, and Quincy Pondexter will host this year’s “Suit Up and Play” themed event alongside other members of the team and coaching staff.

The local feel of Memphis’ rich adoration for blues and basketball will be felt throughout the museum where guests will be treated to a ‘World Tour’ buffet, featuring sushi to sliders to Southern cuisine. Bourbon samplings and awe-inspired desserts will also be available at an open bar. Highlights inclusive of this unique experience also include complimentary valet parking, live and silent auctions, and a performance by the world-famous Stax Music Academy. Live music provided by Bo-Keys with Percy Wiggins will set the tone for a night of dancing, and a chance to see Grizzlies players’ off-the-court moves.

In addition to the live and silent auctions, there will also be an online auction startingJan. 2 and running up to the event date, Jan. 18. The site may be accessed atbiddingforgood.com/Staxtacular. Since its inception in 2004, Staxtacular has continued to grow and has raised close to $1,000,000 for the Stax Music Academy. Last year’s Staxtacular saw record-breaking attendance with almost 550 guests, and surpassed all past records in money raised.The event raised approximately $135,000 from sponsorships, ticket sales, and online, silent and live auctions.

The Stax Music Academy is a unique learning center that inspires young people and enhances their academic, cognitive, performance, and leadership skills by utilizing music with a strong focus on the rich legacy and tradition of Stax Records. Since its founding in 2000, it has served more than 3,000 young people, many of them at risk. Students have performed at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Folklife Festival and many other venues, including performances in Italy, Australia, and Germany. Since 2008, every high school student enrolled in the Stax Music Academy has gone to college.
