Grizzlies players deliver shoes to children as part of Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Drive
Rudy Gay, Kyle Lowry, Hakim Warrick and Mike Conley stopped by STREETS Ministries on January 15, 2009 as part of the Samaritan’s Feet Shoe Drive to help distribute shoes to children. They even did something special to ensure that each child’s feet were extra prepared for their new shoes.
Before putting a brand new pair of Nikes on each child the Grizzlies players washed the children’s feet, a tradition stemming from STEETS Ministries’ religious foundation. The players glad-fully took part in the ritual, realizing its significance. Each child went away happy with Nikes in hand, while the players knew that they had made a difference in the children’s lives.
Samaritan’s Feet is an international ministry focused on bringing a life-changing message of hope to youth and children through sports and recreational adventures. They provide relief to people displaced due to poverty, ravaging wars and religious persecution. They demonstrate compassion by washing and equipping children’s feet with shoes and touching their hearts.
The Grizzlies would also like to extend thanks to those fans who donated shoes at the first Samaritan's Shoe Drive earlier this month. The shoe drive was the first of several planned events to support the cause.
