Grizzlies participate in Jam Session at Stax Music Academy
The Memphis Grizzlies and Stax Music Academy brought the worlds of basketball and music together at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music on Tuesday, February 3.
After watching a private performance from the talented students at the Stax Music Academy, Grizzlies stars O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay and Mike Conley decided that it was time to show the students that they can do more throw down electrifying dunks and nail long-range three-pointers. With Gay and Conley on the xylophone and Mayo holding it down on the bongos and cow bell, the Grizzlies trio showed that they could have a career after basketball if they ever wanted to start their own band.
This special “Jam Session” event leads up to the Fifth Annual Staxtacular on February 21, which Mayo, Gay and Conley will also host starting at 7:00 p.m.. As one of the biggest parties of the year, Staxtacular is an annual soul-shakin’ throw-down and auction that benefits the Stax Music Academy and continues to recognize the Stax Records legacy. All proceeds from the event go to Stax Music Academy’s youth mentoring and music programs.
