Grizzlies Charitable Foundation celebrates "National Mentoring Month"

Grizzlies to host Mentoring Night Tuesday Jan. 14 vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

MEMPHIS, January 3, 2014 – In recognition of President Obama’s proclamation of January as National Mentoring Month, the Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation will be hosting several events throughout the month to celebrate their year-long mentoring endeavors.

National Mentoring Month celebrates mentoring and the positive effect it can have on young lives. Its goals are to raise awareness of mentoring in its various forms, recruit individuals to mentor and promote the rapid growth of mentoring by recruiting organizations to engage their constituents in mentoring.

The celebration will tip-off with “Move for Mentoring” Zumbathon on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Streets Ministries (430 Vance Ave. Memphis 38126) from 10 a.m. – Noon. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Participants must be 13 years of age or older.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14 the Grizzlies Foundation will team up with Leadership Memphis as they host “Imagine Memphis” at Rock and Soul Museum (191 Beale St. Memphis 38103) from 4:30 – 6:45 p.m. During this event, Leadership Memphis alumni will be paired up with high school youth from various Grizzlies Mentoring Alliance mentoring programs to encourage the youth to be leaders and share how they can shape their city to be its best. The event is not open to the public.

Later that evening, mentors and mentees alike will represent the Grizzlies Mentoring Alliance partner programs to cheer on the Grizzlies’ as they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m. for Mentoring Night.

The month of celebration will conclude with the Grizzlies Mentoring Alliance Quarterly Networking Breakfast on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 9 a.m. During this event, alliance members and interested program leaders meet to learn and share new and innovative ideas in the mentoring community.
