2. Al Horford Helps End Streak After five years of the Atlanta Hawks not beating the Utah, you wouldn't be off to think a certain amount of pessimism could seep into the Hawks locker room. But sometimes, it helps to be oblivious of the Hawks' history with the Jazz. After Atlanta defeated Utah 116-111 Monday night, rookie Al Horford, who contributed a career-high 17 points, was made aware of the streak his team had just ended. He responded to the AP in disbelief, "Really? I didn't know that," said the former Gator. "We're 1-0 against them now. I feel pretty good." So, how could the starting center be unaware of the circumstances? While Hawks' were losing battles against the Jazz, Horford was busy winning two championships at Florida. Now as the Dominican-Republic-native starts in Atlanta, he brings with him the passion, desire and maturity necessary to win in the NBA spotlight. Just ask the wise Dave McMenamin who placed Al Horford at the no.1 slot on his weekly Rookie Rankings.

3. Duncan Almost Does It All What a sigh of relief for Spurs fan. In just his second game back from an ankle injury, Tim Duncan is back and looking like his old self. Facing off against the Phoenix Suns sans his sidekick Tony Parker, the three-time Finals MVP registered a season-high 36 points and 17 rebounds, making it his best outing of the year thus far. Despite Duncan's stellar performance, it was Phoenix who had the last laugh, winning 100-95. A disappointed Duncan told the San Antonio Express-News,"I would have rather had a little less and still won the game."

4.Vujacic, a Danger Down the Stretch
Ahead by only six points at the end of the third quarter on Sunday night, the Lakers used the final period to flex their muscle and secure a win over their hometown rivals, the Clippers. While Kobe Bryant scored 32 points on the night, he was not at full strength as he played through a groin injury he suffered in a previous game. Reserve Sasha Vujacic scored all 14 of his points down the stretch, helping the Lakers to maintain the lead and ultimately finish with a 113-92 victory. Experiencing deja-vu on Tuesday night, the Lakers were ahead by a scant five points as they entered the final period. With Kobe still not at full strength, it was again Vujacic who helped seal the win, scoring nine of his team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Lakers to a 103-91 victory. Following the matchup, L.A.'s newest weapon down the stretch told the L.A. Times, "I'm not on the bench anymore. It's not easy to make them when you're sitting," he said. "Jokes aside … [Jackson is] letting me play and I've been enjoying it so far."

5. Ilgauskas Shines in Overtime Monday night the Cavaliers faced the Bucks and were desperately searching for a win after dropping eight of their previous nine matchups. Christmas came early for the Cavs, who ended a two-game losing-streak, defeating the Bucks 104-98 in double overtime. Registering a double-double on the night with 24 points and 11 rebounds, center Zydrunas Ilgauskas was the headline in Ohio newspapers for his spectacular play in overtime. Scoring the Cavs first six points in the first overtime period and then nailing three consecutive jumpers in the second overtime, the Lithuania-native played well throughout the extended time. LeBron James, who scored a game-high 31 points, spoke to the News Herald about the lethal combination of himself and the 7-3 center, "As long as I attract double teams, Z is going to get open shots. When he gets in his comfort range, I know where to get him the ball."
 6. Nowitzki Scores 31 Back-To-Back For the second consecutive game Dirk Nowitzki scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Mavericks to a win. On Monday night, the reigning MVP showed the up-and-coming Dwight Howard that he still has some work to do on his game, as Dallas handed Orlando another disappointing 111-108 loss. Next up the Mavs took on the Suns on Wednesday night. Despite allowing Phoenix to shoot 52.4 percent from the field, the Mavs never trailed. Scoring their last eight points of the game, the native of Germany registered 31 points and nine rebounds to secure a 108-105 home win.

7. Two Big Men Battle
It is not everyday that Yao Ming is truly challenged inside the paint. But on Wednesday, the league's current double-double leader, Dwight Howard put the Chinese import to the test. Up for the task, the 7-6 center registered a double-double with a team-high 19 points and 17 rebounds. But his adversary posted an impressive 21 points and 11 boards, lifting his team above the Rockets for a 97-92 win. With both centers rejecting three shots, it was a battle between the two big men all night long. Comparing Howard to Shaq, Yao praised the young center for his play to Florida Today, "Just think, how many players are like Dwight Howard, his body, his age and his success level," Yao said. "You can't count on us having a Dwight Howard come out every year. It's like why is Shaq Shaq?"
8. Calderon Celebrates His Three Jose Calderon was not smiling for the camera but rather grinning about the game. Holding three fingers in the air on each of his hands, the Raptors guard celebrated a three-pointer that he sank to pad the Raptors fourth quarter lead in Toronto's 104-93 road victory against Indiana. Down by 17 in the third quarter, Toronto came back with a vengeance. With the Pacers focusing their efforts on defending Chris Bosh and Kris Humphries, Calderon stepped up to the plate. Calderon had a career-high 16 dimes to go along with his 18 points. Calderon explained how he accomplished the feat to the Toronto Sun, "It was difficult for them (Indiana) because Hump and CB were playing really good," Calderon said. "I think they got scared of that and started to bring guys in (from the perimeter) to help and after that I was able to find [Jason] Kapono for those wide open shots."

9. Boris Diaw Reacts to Win Last season the Spurs ended the Suns' title aspirations in a six-game playoff series. Now, in this new season, Phoenix has achieved a tiny bit of retribution, destroying San Antonio's home-win streak with a 100-95 victory. After the game, Boris Diaw, who contributed 11 points, six dishes and one crucial steal to the win, discussed the highly-competitive matchup with NBA TV.

10. Oberto Plays an Important RoleTim Duncan returned but Tony Parker was still sidelined with an ankle injury in the Spurs' Sunday night matchup against the Nuggets. While accustomed to viewing spectacular performances from San Antonio's resident stars, including active players Duncan and Manu Ginobili, the reigning champs' role players played an equally (if not more) important role in their 102-91 victory over the Nuggets. Argentina import Fabricio Oberto scored a season-high 21 points to go along with his 13 rebounds and five dimes. Last year's Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Camby told the AP "He (Oberto) had a great game, He usually doesn't go for numbers like that.''
