Week-end highlights:
• All week-end long, spectators enjoyed the 3-on-3 tournament, which is NBA Madness presented by Hannspree’s major event. With 32 teams competing daily and a winning team each day, the 3-on-3 tournament amazed the public. On Saturday, “K1X” won the tournament by edging out “Hakuna Matata” 18-15. On Sunday, “Fantastic 4” won the competition champions 23-21 against “Mars” in a pulsating, high scoring final, decided in the last minute.
The super-final between the daily winners delivered incredible basketball action at a high level with “K1X” winning 16-12. The “K1X” players were overjoyed when they saw the Hannspree TVs they had just won!
• The main attractions of the week-end were – without a doubt – the “Celtics Dancers”. With eye-catching appearances and shows, they made the London crowd go crazy over the two days. Through several dancing appearances, photo opportunities and a “Dance Clinic” with around 40 kids participating on Center Court, the “Celtics Dancers” were the crowd favourites in London.
• On Sunday, Chicago Bulls and Team GB star Luol Deng held an autograph session on Center Court and answered questions by London spectators who came to see their British basketball idol. Deng, who averaged 18.8ppg and 7.1rpg during the season and 22.2ppg and 8.7rpg in the play-offs this year, also played a 3-on-3 show match with 5 kids selected from the crowd. The game was highly entertaining and ended with an upset as 12-year old Jason Smith finished the game on a 3-point shot with Deng trying to cover him!
• It got incredibly loud every time Jean Pierre Dimandja (Saturday) and Aivaras Sakurovas (Sunday) stepped on the court. With a wide range of amazing dunks, they won the competition at the “Hannspree Slam Dunk Contest” and also took home a Hannspree basket-ball shape flat-screen TV each. Actually, they were not the only two celebrating their victory on court when the crowd declared them winners by applauding. Indeed, each player had his own “Cheering Kid”, selected from the crowd to support him by motivating the spectators. Their performances have also been rewarded with Hannspree TVs! The best cheerers in London were Yaseen Al-Saber (Saturday) and Tyler Prosper (Sunday).
• The best shooters of the weekend were Ralf Patrick Zeller (Saturday) and Turgay Akin (Sunday). With great performances at the “Nike 3-Point Shootout”, they won a pair of brand new Nike shoes.
• The players with the best 1-on-1 skills at “The O2” were Mansour Mbye (Saturday) and Wayne Ali (Sunday), who dominated at “Champion of the Court”. Mansour also set an all-time record for wins in a row during the day by beating 53 opponents without losing a single game! Both players won athletic apparel offered by Champion.
• Game Stop Arcade powered by EA SPORTS was also a great opportunity to have fun playing at EA SPORTS’ latest video game: NBA Street Homecourt. The tent was crowded at all times with fans enjoying arcade game action!
• The NBA Europe Live presented by EA SPORTS tent was also packed with people willing to get information on the London game of October 10 between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Boston Celtics. On Sunday, the finals of the NBA Europe Live Free-Throw Shootout were held at the tent, and Eurelius Lidiauskas won a Paul Pierce NBA jersey!
• All week-end long, Hannspree theatre displayed legendary NBA games or actions that spectators enjoyed in this relaxing place.
For its sixth and final stop, NBA Madness presented by Hannspree once again entertained spectators and players providing them competition, show and interactive games and elements at “The O2” in London, England.
