NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2007 – Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics, Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards and LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers top the list of NBA.com’s Top 10 Fantasy Player Picks for the 2007-08 NBA season. The announcement of the Top 10 marks the official opening of the free 2007-08 NBA.com Fantasy Section, which features new games, extensive statistical comparisons and expert player analysis. Selected by NBA.com’s panel of experts, this year’s preseason Top 10 includes:

As part of NBA.com’s comprehensive fantasy coverage, this year marks the return of the popular NBA Cares Celebrity Fantasy League. Actor/comedian Will Ferrell, actor Samuel L. Jackson, and producer/director Spike Lee headline this year’s cast of competitors. All participants play for donations to the league’s global community outreach initiative, NBA Cares, and their respective charities, with the winner’s charity receiving $20,000. This season’s competitors also include former NBA champion and TNT NBA studio analyst Kenny Smith, NBC’s Friday Night Lights star Zach Gilford, ABC’s Desperate Housewives star James Denton, comedian George Lopez, NBC’s Scrubs star Donald Faison, comedian and star of The Bernie Mac Show Bernie Mac, ESPN.com columnist and 2005-06 Celebrity League champion Bill Simmons, Access Hollywood co-host Tony Potts and Emmy Award nominated writer and director Adam McKay.

NBA TV will present a one-hour fantasy special on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 8 p.m. ET. Rick Kamla, the network’s resident fantasy basketball guru and the host of the network’s nightly fantasy basketball show NBA TV Fantasy Hoops, will provide his expert analysis and his winning philosophy for building a fantasy team.

Fans will also have access to NBA fantasy content through the NBA.com Fantasy Draft Guide 2007-08 Magazine, online fantasy player news and injury reports, NBA Fantasy RSS feeds, expert analysis including the daily blog “The Opening Tip,” and daily NBA Fantasy video, as well as video podcasts.

  • NBA.com Ultimate Fantasy Commissioner presented by SIRIUS Satellite Radio: This ultimate draft-and-trade fantasy game is 100 percent free and allows participants the ability to create their own league or team with fully customizable rules and settings that include keeper leagues, ability to trade draft picks, live scoring, and an auction waiver option. This year’s new updated version also offers “Smack Talk” and Poll features to increase chatter amongst competitors. It also provides the ability to upload customized logos and top story photos for private leagues.
  • NBA Stock Exchange in association with Rotohog.com: The NBA has teamed with Rotohog.com to offer a new fantasy experience this season. Players can be bought and sold like NBA Stocks in this unique fantasy game aimed at keeping the competition fair. The twist to this game is the integration of the market. Each player has a stock cost and each team must remain below the salary cap. Player cost, which is entirely determined by supply and demand, is completely independent of fantasy performance. Users can face off against NBA legends Rick Barry, George Gervin and B.J. Armstrong. The winners of these Legend Leagues will be eligible for a prize package that includes a congratulatory call from the NBA great.
  • NBA.com Pick One Challenge presented by T-Mobile: Pick one player for each day that a game is played and earn fantasy points based on that player’s production. The challenge is that you can only pick that player once all season long. The opportunity for double points is available when a T-Mobile rookie is picked.

NBA.com Premier Fantasy Championship:
A competition featuring 30 of the world’s best fantasy players playing for global supremacy all season long. Participants include residents from the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Italy, Mexico, Philippines, Spain and the Ukraine.

NBA.com Fantasy Basketball Draft Kit:
This year’s free draft kit includes a cheat sheet that goes 350 players deep; position-by-position analysis profiling at least 40 players per position; analysis of rookies, injuries, roster moves, and coaching changes; team previews; risks and rewards; an introduction to fantasy for rookies; and a draft strategy guide by NBA.com fantasy hoop expert Jon Loomer.

The winner of this season’s Premier Fantasy Championship will be inducted into the NBA.com Fantasy Hall of Fame. The 2007-08 class will also include the player with the best cumulative rank in the NBA Stock Exchange and Pick One Challenge.
