The second stop of NBA Madness presented by Hannspree was a huge success and brought a weekend full of excitement and fun to players and spectators at Plaza Dali in Madrid on June 9 th and 10 th.
Week-end highlights:
- All week-end long, spectators enjoyed the 3-on-3 tournament, which is NBA Madness presented by Hannspree’s major event. With 32 teams competing daily and a winning team each day, the 3-on-3 tournament amazed the public. This weekend was specially international, as the semi-final teams featured players from Brazil, Poland, Serbia, Puerto-Rico, South America and, of course, Spain. The tournament had a thrilling Super-Final when “Melodia de Seduccion” (Saturday champion) faced “Torrelodones” (Sunday champion). The game went back and forth until the “Torrelodones” sharpshooters hit 3 threes in a row and the team finally won 22-15. Torrelodones team was composed of four players of the C.B Torrelodones, a basket-ball club that competes in EBA (fourth Spanish division), providing high level play.
- It was show-time every time Daniel del Real Martin (Saturday) and Luis Fernando Meinhordt (Sunday) stepped on the court. With a wide range of amazing dunks, they blew by the competition at the „Hannspree Slam Dunk Contest“ and are proud winners of Hansspree basket-ball shape flat-screen. Actually, they were not the only two celebrating their victory on court when the crowd declared them winners by applauding. Indeed, each player had his own “Cheering Kid”, selected from the crowd to support him by motivating the spectators. The winner’s “Cheering Kid” also won Hannspree TVs ! The two lucky “Cheering Kids” in Madrid this week-end were Andrea Balaguer Martin (Saturday) and Ignado Lopez Lazaro (Sunday).
- The best shooters of the weekend were with no doubt Javier Otero (Saturday) and Victor Chuan Zorrila (Sunday). Moreover, Javier Otero had the chance to meet Jorge Garbajosa who attended the prize ceremony!!
Indeed, one of the week-end highlight was definitely the appearance of Spanish National team and Toronto Raptors player: Jorge Garbajosa. Jorge advised 20 kids during a special Nike clinic, then kindly answered the kids’ questions before interviewing with the press & media and signing autographs to fans.
- The player who had the best 1-on-1 skills of all in Madrid was Javier Huertas, who dominated at “Champion of the Court”. He won athletic apparel offered by Champion.
- The winners of the “GameStop Power to the Players Challenge“ (shooting skills challenge in which you must do the best score shooting from different sites) were Fernando Sanchez (Saturday) and Gerardo Gonzalo (Sunday) who won a video console each!
