The Jr. NBA Tournament teams are comprised of students from each of the 16 participating Greater Manila schools of the Jr. NBA Philippines School Clinics, held from April 2 to May 8.
The 16 Jr. NBA teams are divided into Eastern and Western Conferences. The eight teams in each conference are then be divided into two divisions with four teams each. The four divisions are: Eastern Conference – Atlantic Division and Southeast Division; Western Conference – Pacific Division and Midwest Division. Four rounds will be played to determine the Jr. NBA Tournament Champion. The Jr. NBA Final between the Champions of the Eastern and Western Conferences will take place on Friday, May 18, at 4:30 PM.
Apart from crowning the Jr. NBA Champion, awards will be presented to the coach of the champion team and players with outstanding performances throughout the tournament:
- Microsoft Jr. NBA School Award for the champion.
- Gatorade Jr. NBA Player of the Tournament for the best player from the champion team.
- Philippine Airlines High Scorer Award for the player with the highest-scoring average in the tournament.
- Spalding Assist Award for the best passer of the tournament with the highest number of assists per game.
- DHL All The Way Coaching Award for the coach of the champion team.
Two basketball skills contests will also be held at the tournament to test the various skills learned during the Jr. NBA Clinics:
- Jr. NBA 3-Point Shootout presented by BTV – The best long-distance shooter from each school will compete from behind the 3-point line in a “knock-out” contest.
- Jr. NBA 2Ball presented by Caltex with Techron – Two players from each team take turns shooting from various spots on the floor in 60 seconds.
All members of the Jr. NBA Tournament Champion Team will be invited to participate in the Jr. NBA Training Camp scheduled for June 4 to 6. The remaining 15 participating schools will nominate three students from their respective teams to participate further in camp. Besides good basketball skills, the nominated students must be in good academic standing and must be active in their community. The 3-day advanced session will be hosted by a Jr. NBA coach from the United States. The best six campers will be selected as the Jr. NBA Philippine All-Star Team and win a chance to watch an NBA game live in the 2007-08 season.
