- First basketball game to be played at O 2 World arena in Berlin on Oct. 14 -
LONDON , May 29, 2008 – Tickets will go on sale Friday, May 30 for the game between the New Orleans Hornets and the Washington Wizards to be played on Oct. 14 at the O 2 World in Berlin, as part of NBA Europe Live 2008 presented by EA SPORTS™ it was announced today by the National Basketball Association.
Tickets for the game can be purchased online at www.o2world.de and at the O 2 World box office . Ticket prices range from to 36€ to 113€.
The game on Oct. 14 between the 2008 Southwest Division Champion New Orleans Hornets, led by All-Star guard Chris Paul, and the Washington Wizards, featuring All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas, will be the first time the teams have played each other on European soil. Following Berlin, the teams will travel to Barcelona, Spain for a second game on Oct. 17. NBA Europe Live 2008 tips off with games between the Miami Heat and New Jersey Nets in Paris, France, on Oct. 9 and London, England on Oct. 12.
The Hornets-Wizards game will be one of the first major sporting events held at the new state-of-the-art O 2 World. The arena in central Berlin is owned and operated by AEG, owners of the Staples Center in Los Angeles and home to the NBA’s L.A. Lakers and L.A.Clippers. The NBA last visited Germany as part of the 2006 NBA Europe Live when the Philadelphia 76ers played the Phoenix Suns in Cologne. This years’ game at the O 2 World marks the seventh game featuring NBA teams in Germany since 1993.
Following NBA Europe Live 2008, NBA teams will have played 48 games in 18 different cities in Europe over the past two decades. Last year’s seven NBA Europe Live games drew more than 10.3 million viewers, 75,000 spectators, and were supported by 23 marketing partners.
Euroleague Basketball will once again serve as a partner in NBA Europe Live, which it has since 2006. EA SPORTS, adidas, Champion and Sprite will all return as pan-European marketing partners for Europe Live, and Spalding, the official basketball of the NBA, will again serve as an official supplier. They will conduct a variety of NBA-themed promotional activities to reach NBA fans in Europe.
