On the final day of Basketball Without Borders Americas 2007, NBA Cares activities culminated with a player visit to Projeto AMA, a home founded in 2000 by Hospital Samaritano to provide free medical attention to children in need. NBA players spent quality time with the kids and their mothers, playing interactive games and participating in nutritional seminars about healthy living.
At Esporte Clube Pinheiros, campers participated in an HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention Life Skills Seminar led by UNICEF, the last in a series of education seminars that form an integral part of the camp. NBA players, Sam Perkins and Samuel Dalembert, were present to lead the campers in the important group discussions.
Following daily basketball training and scrimmages, campers were selected for the All-Star game (Team Green and Team Yellow) and Gatorade’s 3-point shoot out. Once the teams were set, the game tipped off with live coverage on SporTV for the first time in Brazil. Live coverage began at 12:15 pm with Brazilian players, Nene, Leandrinho, Varejao and Marcus Vinicius, providing recaps of the camp and forecasts for the All-Star game. For the final scoreboard, Team Yellow defeated Team Green 70-52, with Brazilian Rodrigo Cesar Silva of Team Yellow stealing the MVP prize. Team Green also had a rising star -- Uruguayan Jayson Granger who was awarded the MVP prize for the entire BWB Americas camp. SporTV's six hour live coverage culminated with a live interview featuring Marcos Vinicius of the New Orleans Hornets.
As another successful BWB Americas came to an end, campers, NBA players and coaches left Esporte Clube Pinheiros having built many new friendships, lasting memories and a strong foundation for basketball, sportsmanship and education.
