Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel discussed resting his players in preparation for the playoffs, but the manner in which that extra rest was granted has to leave an uneasy feeling.

After having their last game canceled due to the tragic events in Boston, the Pacers conclude the regular season Wednesday night against a visiting Philadelphia 76ers team hoping to send coach Doug Collins out on a high note.

Vogel will rest four starters Wednesday and might have done the same for Monday's road game versus the Celtics, but two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon that left at least three dead and hundreds injured forced the cancellation of that contest.

After releasing a statement accounting for each member of the team, Indiana traveled home to prepare for its regular-season finale.

The Central Division champion Pacers (49-31) are guaranteed the Eastern Conference's third seed after falling 90-80 to second-place New York on Sunday.

They are on the verge of winning 50 games for the first time since 2003-04 but have been struggling down the stretch. Indiana has dropped four of five while allowing 100.4 points per game, nearly 10 above its season average.

Paul George, the Pacers' leading scorer at 17.4 points per game, finished 3 for 12 from the field and 1 of 8 from 3-point range while scoring nine points Sunday. He's averaging 10.8 points and shooting a dismal 28.3 percent over the last five.

"We haven't really earned (the No. 3 seed) as far as getting the win and solidifying it ourselves," George said. "We're just not taking care of business."

Vogel believes that's partly due to fatigue after the Pacers committed a season-worst 26 turnovers Sunday.

"Got a couple of guys banged up and a couple of guys with dead legs," Vogel said. "Paul George's 3-point shot is not even close. He's been playing too many minutes."

Vogel said after Wednesday's shootaround that George, David West, Roy Hibbert and George Hill would all sit out this game.

The 76ers are likely to play everyone available as they play what is likely their last game with Collins as coach.

Multiple reports have indicated Collins will be stepping down following a season that began with high expectations after the acquisition of Andrew Bynum but will end with the 76ers missing the playoffs for the first time in three seasons under Collins.

Philadelphia (33-48) never played a game with the injured Bynum, and Jason Richardson was lost for the season after suffering a knee injury in January.

"(I think about having Bynum) each and every day," forward Thaddeus Young said. "If we had the big fella in the middle, a bunch of things could change. This team was assembled to play around him. At the end of the day, it happened where he couldn't play this season. We'll try and take all the positives and bring them into next season."

Collins wouldn't discuss his future before or after Monday's 109-101 loss at Detroit that snapped a two-game winning streak, but he said his team will be relaxed heading into the season finale.

"I like what this team is doing, and it is a fun group," Collins said. "I told them that it is supposed to be great weather in Indy (on Tuesday), so we'll take the day off, enjoy ourselves and then get together for one last good game."

Indiana won the first two meetings this season before Jrue Holiday scored 27 points and dished out 12 assists in Philadelphia's 98-91 home win March 16.

Philadelphia gives Collins 105-95 win at Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Philadelphia finally got things right on the final night of the season.

The 76ers looked like the high-scoring, solid defensive team the brass envisioned when it traded for Andrew Bynum.

On a night Jrue Holiday and Spencer Hawes played fewer than 10 minutes, Dorell Wright scored 23 points and Evan Turner added 16 to give coach Doug Collins one more win - perhaps his last win - as the 76ers coach, 105-95 in a meaningless season finale at Indiana.

"Whatever he wants to do, whatever makes him feel happy, you know what I'm saying," Turner said when asked if he wanted Collins back. "You go through that type of year, go through that type of situation, strenuous and all of that. It's all about what he decides to do. He has a lot of options and whatever's the best decision for him. He could always go back to commentating or, you know, his son's the head coach at Northwestern, so whatever he wants to do that makes him happy."

Collins is expected to give up his coaching job Thursday after three seasons on the bench though he referred to himself Wednesday night as the coach. Philadelphia has already scheduled morning news conferences with Collins and the managing owner.

The usually flamboyant Collins sat dispassionately in his seat for most of the game, as he has done for most of the past two weeks. When he did talk, it was mostly with a hand covering his mouth.

The game itself had little intrigue.

While Holiday, the All-Star guard, barely became Philadelphia's first player since Wilt Chamberlain in 1967-68 to average more than 17 points and eight assists for an entire season, the Pacers rested four starters after already being locked into the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. Indiana (49-32) will open the first round Sunday against sixth-seeded Atlanta, a team it went 2-2 against this season and hasn't played in the postseason since 1996.

Indiana (49-32) wasn't the only team playing it safe.

Holiday essentially took the night off, too. He finished with five points and no assists in 9 minutes, 16 seconds, giving him final numbers of 17.7 points and 8.01 assists to join Chamberlain. Spencer Hawes went to the bench with two fouls a little more than four minutes into the game, and Thaddeus Young had 10 points and eight rebounds in 21 1/2 minutes, barely missing his 22nd double-double of the season.

The Holiday brothers - Jrue and Justin - and the Hansbrough brothers - Ben and Tyler - also became the first brother tandem to play in the same NBA game.

But after a season that began with Eastern Conference title hopes and ended with the 76ers (34-48) heading home for a long offseason after winning three of their last four, nobody, other than perhaps Collins, knows what to expect next.

"For our fans there should be a lot of hope. We think there are some good pieces here and if those young guys will continue to develop and we make some good moves in the offseason, could be right back in the thick of things," Collins said.

Indiana, the Central Division, champs came into Wednesday night with three goals -- stay healthy, get its fatigued starters some extra rest and find some momentum.

Playing without All-Star Paul George, George Hill, Roy Hibbert and David West certainly didn't help matters -- and it showed. Gerald Green scored a career-high 34 points. Nobody else scored more than 12.

After giving up the first 11 points of the game, the Pacers spent the rest of the night futilely playing catch-up. Three times they cut the deficit to nine in the first half. They couldn't get closer than that until Jeff Pendergraph's layup made it 96-88 with 4:14 to play and couldn't get any closer than that until Green's dunk made it 101-95 with 32.6 seconds left. Indiana didn't even bother to foul in the final possessions and now heads into the playoffs with five losses in its last six games.

"Ideally, you want to be playing your best ball at this time of year," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "We were up until the final week. For whatever reason we've struggled the last week. But, I've seen red hot teams go into the playoffs and get bounced and I've seen teams that struggled the final few weeks going very, very deep. I wouldn't overreact to it."

Notes: Philadelphia finished this season with one fewer win than it had during the lockout season of 2011-12. ... Indiana has had the league's top scoring defense most of the season but has allowed 97 or more points in six of its last eight games. ... The 76ers finished the season 11-30 on the road but went 5-5 in its last 10 games outside of Philadelphia.

THE FACTS: The victor goes home, having salvaged a respectable finish from an otherwise miserable season. The loser moves on, hoping to find what it has lost in a late-season slump. Philadelphia closed its season with a 105-95 victory over a depleted Indiana team resting four starters Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The 76ers finish 34-48 overall but went 11-9 in their final 20 games, something to take into an offseason that could include a search for a new head coach if reports of Doug Collins' departure prove to be true. Indiana finishes 49-32 and faces Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs but the Pacers must find a way to reverse the negative momentum built in losing five of their final six games.

Gerald Green made a strong case for inclusion in the playoff rotation by scoring a career-high 34 points for Indiana, matching the second-highest total for any Pacers player this season. Dorell Wright led Philadelphia with 23.

QUOTABLE: "I always say this before the last game: get your hands together, look around this room and realize this is the NBA and this room will change, to look each other in the eye and appreciate what each of you have done for the other and how hard we worked and realize you always will be teammates."

THE STAT: Indiana trailed by at least 20 points in each of its final six games, including deficits as large as 26 against the Sixers.

TURNING POINT: Philadelphia took control immediately with an 11-0 start, and pushed the lead to 66-40 early in the third period before Green caught fire and rallied Indiana. He scored 17 in the third period as the deficit was trimmed to 85-68 and hit a 3-pointer in a 9-0 run that pulled the Pacers to 90-83. That was as close as they'd get until the closing seconds, however, as a 3-pointer by Wright and a three-point play by Damien Wilkins quickly pushed the advantage to 13.

HOT: Green shot 14-for-23 overall, 6-for-12 from the 3-point line, adding six rebounds and two steals. Jeff Pendergraph had 12 points and six rebounds off the bench and Ben Hansbrough 11 points in 18 minutes, nine in the fourth quarter. Wright shot 8-for-15 for the 76ers while Arnett Moultrie had 14 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 7-for-11. Wilkins scored 15 on 6-for-11 shooting.

NOT: Indiana shot 17-for-27 from the free throw line (.630) and 6-for-26 from the 3-point line (.231). Orlando Johnson missed all five of his 3-pointers, and Hansbrough was 0-for-3.

Indiana allowed more than 100 points five times in the last eight games after having done so just once in the previous 22. ... Indiana has lost its last 11 games in Atlanta but will have homecourt advantage in the first-round series. ...The Pacers have lost five of its last six in front of home sellout crowds, finishing 5-5 on the season. ...
