Though their final games will determine little more than their lottery odds, neither the Detroit Pistons nor the Philadelphia 76ers look to be trying to improve their draft position.

With coach Doug Collins on his way out, the Sixers might have a little more motivation to win down the stretch.

A day after Collins reportedly decided he won't return for a fourth season in Philadelphia, the Sixers look to give their coach a strong finish as they visit the Pistons on Monday night in the penultimate game for both teams.

Collins hadn't made it longer than three seasons in previous coaching stops in Chicago, Detroit and Washington, and it appears that trend will hold true in Philadelphia. After a disappointing season in which the Sixers (33-47) never got prized offseason addition Andrew Bynum on the floor, the veteran coach who was the No. 1 overall pick of the 1973 draft by Philadelphia apparently will step down after the final two games.

That news came down late Sunday, hours after Collins' agent tried to diffuse the blossoming speculation by saying after the 76ers' 91-77 home finale win over Cleveland that his client would be back for the final year of his contract.

"I'd give (owner) Josh (Harris) and our organization a lot of credit, they swung for the fences (with the Bynum trade)," Collins said after Sunday's victory. "Unfortunately with Andrew getting hurt ... it changed the whole dynamic of our season."

Reports suggested management wanted Collins to return, and it's possible he may stay with the franchise in some capacity.

Collins, who had his 2013-14 option picked up during training camp, is 109-119 with Philadelphia. Thaddeus Young had 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals in the win over Cleveland, and Dorell Wright added 15 points off the bench.

The Sixers, who won five of their final six at home, surely would love to get two more victories for their departing coach, but the Pistons (28-52) aren't mailing it in either. Detroit went 1-13 in March but has opened April with four wins in six games, including three straight for the first time since a season-high four-game winning streak from Dec. 28-Jan. 4.

It's been an encouraging stretch, thanks in large part to contributions from the Pistons' bench. Jonas Jerebko scored 17 of his 21 points in the second quarter Friday against Charlotte, and Will Bynum added 15 points and 10 assists in a 113-93 win.

Jerebko barely played for a two-month stretch beginning in late November, but he's been making the most of his minutes lately, shooting 60.6 percent from the field over his last eight games and scoring at least 15 points five times.

"He's comfortable," said Bynum, who has totaled 31 points and 13 assists while going 12 for 20 from the field in his last two. "He knows he's getting minutes, the opportunity is there, and he's just being aggressive."

These teams have split two meetings this season, both in Philadelphia. Pistons center Greg Monroe has averaged 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in the series.

Detroit rookie center Andre Drummond, one of the bright spots for the Pistons this season, could miss the home finale after rolling his ankle in the fourth quarter Friday.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) Lawrence Frank walked quickly toward midcourt as the final seconds ticked away, greeting Doug Collins with a handshake and a few words.

Frank's future is uncertain in Detroit and Collins is on his way out as Philadelphia's coach. That's what happens at the end of a disappointing season.

Greg Monroe had 27 points and 16 rebounds, and the Detroit Pistons made the most of their home finale by beating the Philadelphia 76ers 109-101 on Monday night. For both teams, the game was overshadowed by uncertainty off the court. Collins won't be back as Philadelphia's coach, and Pistons owner Tom Gores remained noncommittal before the game on the status of Frank, his coach, and Joe Dumars, his team president.

"Any time there's a last of anything - so there's a last home game - for whoever it is, I think everyone has to appreciate the moment," Frank said. "As a team, collectively, this will be the last time we play on this floor."

A person familiar with the situation has told The Associated Press that Collins and the Sixers were trying to resolve their future relationship after the coach told them he would not return for a fourth season.

Collins didn't discuss his future before the game Monday. Philadelphia finishes the season at Indiana on Wednesday night.

"I like what this team is doing, and it is a fun group," Collins said. "I told them that it is supposed to be great weather in Indy (on Tuesday), so we'll take the day off, enjoy ourselves and then get together for one last good game."

The 76ers reached the playoffs the last two seasons, but the best they could manage in 2012-13 was avoiding a 50-loss campaign. They're 33-48 heading into their finale.

Gores met with reporters briefly and said he was disappointed with Detroit's season, but it's not clear what will happen with Dumars and Frank. The Pistons are playing better of late. They've won four straight, equaling their longest run of the season.

Detroit trailed 54-51 at halftime Monday but went on a 14-5 run near the end of the third quarter to open a double-digit lead. The Pistons outscored the 76ers 33-21 in the period.

Monroe's spinning three-point play with 10:10 to go in the fourth made it 89-75.

It was the 36th double-double of the season for Monroe, equaling the most by a Piston since Grant Hill had 44 in 1995-96. Hill also had 36 the following two seasons.

Detroit is finishing up its fourth straight season without a playoff berth, and there's no telling what the offseason could bring, but the players didn't seem affected by the uncertainty.

"At the end of the day, this is our job," Monroe said. "When you step on the court, you have to play, and that's what I focus on. There's always going to be stuff that happens off the court. This is a business. There are going to be changes every year. It's about, whoever you are, just making sure you play the best you can."

Will Bynum scored 22 points in just over 25 minutes for Detroit. Kyle Singler contributed 16 points and Brandon Knight had 12.

The 76ers trailed by only seven late in the game, but Bynum's 3-pointer from the left corner made it 106-96.

Dorell Wright had 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the 76ers. Jrue Holiday added 14 points.

"We were doing some good things and then we started dribbling a little too much," Collins said. "Monroe was terrific. Knight had that little stretch where he got hot and hit some shots and then Bynum was good off of the bench."

NOTES: Detroit rookie Andre Drummond, a game-time decision after spraining his right ankle Friday, had five points and eight rebounds before fouling out.

THE STAT: 36. Monroe notched his 36th double-double this season, matching the second most by a Piston since Grant Hill had 44 during the 1995-96 season. Monroe came into the game just outside the top 10 in the league in double-doubles

TURNING POINT: Singler scored 11 of his points during the third quarter, when Detroit erased a three-point halftime deficit and led by as much as 11. He gave his club a 77-71 lead with a 3-pointer and fast-break dunk on back-to-back possessions. Bynum's 3-pointer during the final minute of the quarter made it 82-71.

QUOTABLE II: "We're right there. We've just got to piece the right veterans around this group of guys and put guys in the right positions, where they can be successful. It's going to fall into place."

HOT: Since the All-Star break, Wright was averaging 11.7 points entering the game. He had an even hotter hand on Monday, using a mix of 3-point shots and drives to the basket to rack up his points. Those drives led to free throws and he made 8 of 9.

NOT: Philadelphia's interior defenders had a rough night trying to stop Monroe, who shot 10 for 14 from the field. Detroit, which leads the conference in points in the paint, had 50 points in the lane.

ROOKIE WATCH: Detroit center Andre Drummond played despite a sprained right ankle but only managed five points and eight rebounds before fouling out.

IN THE ARENA: Pistons owner Tom Gores addressed the media prior to the game, his first press conference at The Palace since the season opener. Gores said he would soon decide the future of coach Lawrence Frank and president of basketball operations Joe Dumars. "We're assessing everything fast," he said. "It's a critical time for the franchise. It's important to have a good management team in place. We'll do it fast. We're going to do it very, very quickly but thoroughly." Gores said after last season he expected the team to make the playoffs but his team is heading back to the lottery. The Pistons will have more than $25 million in salary-cap space this offseason to acquire talent. "We've put ourselves in a position to really make moves," he said. "We want to win championships, we want to get to the playoffs, we want to do all those things. We are prepared to do what we have to do to get this franchise moving forward. Make no doubt about it. We want to win. You can spread the word -- we're ready to spend." ... There was a moment of silence prior to the game for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

NOTABLE: Philadelphia coach Doug Collins refused to take questions about his future amid reports he would resign at the end of the season. His club finishes its season in Indiana and he told his team, 'Let's put one good game together before the season's over. That's the whole thought process on everything." As for his thought process, he would only say, 'Just finish it up. Just finish it up.' ... Detroit's win streak matches its season high. It also had a four-game streak in late December and early January. ...Pistons guard Jose Calderon missed his fourth straight game with a strained right triceps. ... Singler is the only Piston to appear in every game. Spencer Hawes and Evan Turner hold that distinction for the Sixers.
