Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are expected back for the Boston Celtics.

That may not matter to Jason Terry since he thinks the Orlando Magic are "terrible."

With Pierce and Garnett slated to return from injuries, the Celtics will try to clinch the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference on Saturday night with an eighth straight win over the Magic.

Pierce and Garnett have been dealing with sore ankles, and because Boston (40-39) has already clinched a playoff spot, coach Doc Rivers had the luxury of resting them for Friday's 109-101 loss at NBA-leading Miami.

The two veterans are expected to return with the Celtics needing just one win from their remaining three games to secure the seventh spot in the East.

Facing the Magic (20-59) certainly has Terry feeling confident.

"Orlando is a team that, obviously, you see them. I don't want to give them any fuel, but they're terrible," Terry said. "So we must go in there with whoever we have and scrap for the win."

The guard's comments could stem from the Celtics winning seven straight meetings with the Magic, holding them to 88.1 points per game on 39.2 percent shooting. However, they needed overtime to win 116-110 in the most recent visit to Orlando on Nov. 25, and Garnett and Pierce chipped in with 24 and 23 points, respectively.

They combined for 28 points and 21 rebounds while Terry scored 12 off the bench to win the latest matchup, 97-84 at home Feb. 1.

Jeff Green is looking to continue his impressive stretch for Boston. The big man has hit 12 of 25 from 3-point range while averaging 20.6 points over the past eight games, a huge increase from his 12.8 on the season.

He had a game-high 25 points with eight rebounds against the Heat, and he scored 17 while blocking three shots as a reserve versus Orlando on Feb. 1.

Green, though, may have his hands full with center Nikola Vucevic and forward Tobias Harris, who are trying to lead the Magic to back-to-back wins for the first time since a season-high four-game run Dec. 14-19.

They had 30 points apiece Wednesday while Vucevic added 20 rebounds and Harris grabbed 19 boards in a 113-103 overtime victory over playoff-bound Milwaukee.

Harris is averaging 20.8 points and 10.6 rebounds over the last nine games, while Vucevic has managed 18.7 points and 16.3 boards in six contests since missing five with a mild concussion.

Vucevic ranks among the league leaders with 11.9 rebounds per game, and his 12.9 scoring average is vastly improved from his 5.5 with Philadelphia as a rookie last season.

"I think I'm a lot better and I've improved in every area of my game," Vucevic told the team's official website. "My confidence is a lot higher, so when I go out on the court I just do what I do best so I don't think as much. I've gotten stronger and I'm more mature, so I feel like I'm better overall."

He's totaled 20 points and 17 rebounds in two games against the Celtics this season.

Celtics lock up East's 7th seed, rout Magic 120-88

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Celtics coach Doc Rivers is going to be cautious with how hard he pushes Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce over Boston's final two games of the regular season.

At the same time he doesn't want his aging stars out of game shape entering the playoffs.

An easy night against the Orlando Magic allowed him to satisfy both concerns.

Courtney Lee scored 20 points and Jeff Green added 17 as the Celtics cruised to a 120-88 victory over the Magic on Saturday night.

The win locked up the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference for Boston, which never trailed in beating Orlando for the eighth straight time.

"It's a fine line between rest and health," Pierce said. "With this team you want to be as healthy as we can get at this point. Right now we're as healthy as we're gonna be for the rest of the season. ... If we play the next couple of games or if we didn't, the most important thing is that we're ready for the playoffs."

All five Celtics starters reached double figures, with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively, after sitting out Friday against Miami.

Tobias Harris led the Magic with 22 points, and Nik Vucevic added 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Orlando hasn't won back-to-back games since December. The Magic play their final home game of season on Monday against Chicago, and head to Miami for the season finale on Wednesday.

With the rest afforded to the veterans and extra playing time to the younger players, Celtics coach Doc Rivers feels good about his team in spite of the surprises dealt to it this season. He said he feels like the players are setting themselves up for a "pretty good run."

"I like our team. I like our team a lot," Rivers said. "The key for us is to get through these two games, have some great practices and get ready for the playoffs. That's what you play the whole season for."

The Celtics conclude their regular-season schedule against Indiana on Tuesday and at Toronto on Wednesday.

After resting their sore ankles the previous night, Celtics coach Doc Rivers re-inserted Pierce and Garnett into the starting lineup against the Magic.

They made an immediate impact, combining for 20 first-half points as the Celtics built a 20-point halftime advantage.

Garnett missed only one of his eight shots on the night.

"I'd like to see more consistency from us defensively," he said. "Obviously the roster will shrink a bit, that will alleviate a lot of other things. I've always loved our team ... as long as we play the right way."

The Celtics were able to add to their cushion in the second half against the young Magic, who are showing more signs of a team ambling toward the conclusion of an injury-plagued transition season.

With the exception of Harris and Vucevic, the Magic were mostly passive offensively and were a step behind on defense most of the night as Boston was able to work the ball around for easy looks.

"We have to get better," Magic forward Kyle O'Quinn said. "We have to take advantage of those teaching points. Those guys out there playing, we just have to learn everything we can from them."

The only brief moment of peril for Boston came late in the third quarter when Green remained on the floor after planting awkwardly on his left leg.

He stayed down a few minutes during a timeout, but was able to remain in the game. He said he was fine after the game.

A first-round matchup with the New York Knicks seems likely at this point for Boston, but it's not a mathematical certainty yet. Indiana still has a chance to slip into the second seed.

But whoever the opponent is, Pierce said it's clear the Celtics will need Green to be upright if they're going to be able to stick around in the postseason past opening round.

"Definitely, we're going to need him to step up," Pierce said. "He's going to be huge for us as that third scorer. And he has to be a third consistent scorer. Everybody already knows what me and Kevin bring. He's going to have to be that guy now.

"He's had some big games and he's gaining confidence by the game. And I think he's beginning to understand how important it is for him to continue being aggressive regardless of what me and Kevin are doing."

NOTES: Boston G Jason Terry was given the night off by Rivers, marking his first missed game of the season. He also will likely sit on Tuesday, Rivers said. ... The Magic used their 29th different starting lineup of the season on Saturday.

THE FACTS: The Boston Celtics clinched the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs by trouncing the Orlando Magic 120-88 Saturday.

Boston (41-39) shot 59 percent and led all the way after Jeff Green's layup 31 seconds into the game. Courtney Lee, one of seven Celtics to score in double figures, came off the bench with 20 points. Kevin Garnett, playing for only the third time in the last 11 games, had 14 points and nine rebounds in less than 19 minutes.

Tobias Harris scored 22 points for the Magic (20-60), who started their 29th different lineup of the season.

QUOTABLE: "I like our team a lot. The key for us is to get through these two games, have some great practices and get ready for the playoffs. That's what you play the whole season for. Our veteran guys have gotten a ton of rest, our young guys are getting a lot of playing time, which will get them going for the playoffs. I think we're setting ourselves up for a pretty good run."

THE STAT: The Magic tied an NBA record by losing their eighth home game by 24 or more points. The record was set by the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets and matched by the 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats. The Magic's home finale will be against Chicago on Monday night.

TURNING POINT: The Celtics scored the first nine points of the game, then ran off 15 straight in the second quarter to lead 39-21 and cruise from there.

HOT: Brandon Bass, who proved in Orlando that he will hit an uncontested mid-range jump shot if you let him take one, went 6-for-7 for the Celtics.

NOT: Harris' game-leading 22 points might be the most misleading number of the night. The Magic forward missed his first eight shots, and most of his scoring came after the Celtics had busted the game open.

GOOD MOVE: Needing just one victory (or Milwaukee loss) to nail down the seventh spot, Boston came out with playoff intensity against an overmatched opponent that had won its preceding game.

QUOTABLE III: "The aggressive nature that Boston came out with put us back on our heels . . . It's a great lesson for us going forward. You win one game and it has no carryover from the last game. Doesn't mean a thing. That game is over with, and can you prepare yourself for the next game?"

BAD MOVE: The Magic started the 7-foot Nik Vucevic and 6-10 Kyle O'Quinn together for the first time, which limited them offensively (they made six of their first 22 shots) and didn't help defensively, either.

ROOKIE WATCH: The Magic played five rookies and three second-year players.

NOTABLE: The Celtics will play New York in the first round unless the Knicks lose their last three games and the Indiana Pacers win their last three . . . Garnett's 14 points brought his career total to 25,274, leaving him five points behind Reggie Miller who ranks 14th on the all-time list . . . The Magic have not won two straight since Dec. 17-19.
