While the Washington Wizards have had their share of struggles on the road, they've been very good in the nation's capital lately.

The Wizards will try to extend their longest home winning streak in more than six years Sunday night when they take on the Toronto Raptors.

After losing consecutive road games, including 97-92 to woeful Orlando on Friday, Washington (26-46) hopes to get back on track with a two-game stay at home. Chicago comes to town Tuesday.

The Wizards have won six straight on their home floor, taking the last five by an average of 14.8 points. They improved to 19-17 at home with a 107-94 victory over Memphis on Monday, but they're tied for the league's second-worst road record at 7-29.

Defense has been one of the keys during the franchise's longest home win streak since a 10-game run in 2006-07. The Wizards have limited opponents to 92.2 points per game and 29.6 percent from 3-point range over the past six home games.

"We've been playing hard," point guard John Wall said. "When we're at home, we come out and play defense right from the (tip)."

Wall, who had 35 points Friday, has been particularly good at home lately. He's averaged 31.0 points, including a career-high 47 on Monday, and 9.3 assists while shooting 68.8 percent in the last three games in Washington.

Martell Webster also has been hot there, averaging 23.0 points and hitting 19 of 36 from 3-point range over his past four home games.

The Wizards have shot 50.0 percent or better in each of their last five games at the Verizon Center, averaging 108.0 points and hitting 52.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Now they'll try to maintain that efficiency against Toronto, which allowed an average of 106.2 points during a five-game losing streak before tightening things up Friday in a 99-82 victory at Detroit.

Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan each finished with a team-high 21 points, while Amir Johnson added 20 and eight rebounds.

Gay scored 19 in the third quarter, when the Raptors (27-45) outscored the Pistons 36-15 en route to their second win in nine road games this month.

"We've got a lot of young players and we're playing for next year," Gay said. "These young guys need to know what it feels like to win."

Twenty-year-old center Jonas Valanciunas contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds Friday, and he's averaged 15.0 points on 72.5 percent shooting in his last six games.

This season series has seen each team win once on the other's home floor. Gay had 24 points in a 96-88 victory at Washington on Feb. 19, but he was held to seven and shot 1 for 11 six days later in a 90-84 defeat. DeRozan averaged 24.5 points in the two meetings.

Bradley Beal has led Washington with a combined 45 points in those matchups but is expected to be out at least another week because of a sprained ankle.

Nene will be a game-time decision after missing the past three games with a knee injury. Trevor Booker has averaged 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds while starting for Nene.

Beal scores 24 as Wizards beat Raptors 109-92

WASHINGTON (AP) As the Washington Wizards pursue their stated goal of finishing ninth in the Eastern Conference, seeing Bradley Beal back on the court was a welcome sight.

Beal scored 24 points in his return from a five-game absence, leading the Wizards to a 109-92 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night.

Emeka Okafor had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and John Wall added 18 points and 10 assists for Washington. The Wizards, who came in having lost two in a row on the road, won their seventh straight at home and moved into a tie with Toronto for 10th place in the Eastern Conference.

"They kept leaving me open and my teammates just kept finding me," said Beal, who was out with a sprained ankle. "I was able to knock down some shots. I stayed confident, and the ball ended up in my hands a lot."

Beal shot 8 for 14 from the field, including a career-high-tying six 3-pointers - on nine attempts - in 30 minutes.

"We've seen it in his attitude," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "He's been working, and he wants to get back. That's a good sign when you've only got 10 games left. I've been in it long enough where I've seen guys say they don't want to get back in it."

The Wizards - 8 1/2 games behind eighth-place Milwaukee with nine games remaining - are realistically out of the playoff picture, but trail Philadelphia by three games for ninth.

"We're playing for something that's bigger than just nine games left," Martell Webster said. " Fighting for that ninth spot because for us, that's fuel for next year."

Jonas Valanciunas had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Raptors, losers of six of their last seven. Demar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry added 15 apiece. Toronto leading scorer Rudy Gay scored 11 points - about seven below his average - while being limited to 26 minutes due to foul trouble.

"I thought we came out with a relaxed disposition and didn't come out ready to go. The guys didn't look like they were ready to move their feet defensively," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. "We had some frustration fouls which kind of set the tone for the course of the game."

Toronto, which has lost six of seven, cut a 20-point third-quarter deficit to six twice in the fourth quarter before Washington pulled away.

The Wizards shot 48.2 percent from the field (41 of 85) to 39.5 percent for Toronto (32 of 81).

Paced by Beal, the Wizards' reserves outscored their Toronto counterparts, 62-25.

Washington increased a 10-point halftime lead to 16 with an 8-2 run to open the second half. Toronto cut it to 70-62, but Beal hit 3-pointers on three of the Wizards' next four possessions to make it 79-64.

A little over a minute later, Beal hit another 3 and, after a Toronto miss, Okafor's dunk put Washington ahead 86-66 with 2:18 left in the quarter.

The Wizards scored 12 points from the foul line in the opening 12 minutes. Wall's two free throws gave the Wizards a 27-25 lead at the end of a first quarter that featured nine lead changes.

With Washington ahead by one midway through the second quarter, Keven Seraphin scored six of his 11 first-half points in an 8-2 Washington spurt. A minute later, Wall fed Trevor Ariza for a fast-break layup that made it 50-41 and Washington led by 10 at the half.

Wall turned the ball over just one time.

"John's line is spectacular for a point guard. "I like to see lines like that. He got the ball moving around. He had good pace to the game," Wittman said. "I thought he did a great job on controlling and dictating what we needed to do from an offensive standpoint. I thought this was one of his better all-around games."

Wall added: "I didn't have to be super aggressive and score a lot. I knew a lot of teams are keying on me the way I've been playing lately so I'm just doing a great job of taking the shots I have and if my teammates are open, doing a great job of finding them."

Gay was held to five points in the half and DeMar DeRozan to four, while Valanciunas scored 16 for Toronto.

"We've just got to be focused," DeRozan said. "We've got to understand we've only got so many games left. We've got to put our mind to it and play hard every game. It's as simple as that."

NOTES: Wizards F Nene missed his fourth game with a sore right knee. ... The last time Washington won seven consecutive home games was during the 2006-07 season, when they won 10 straight. ... The Wizards visit Toronto on Wednesday to wrap up the season-series. Washington has won two of the first three meetings.

THE FACTS: Bradley Beal matched his career-high with six 3-pointers and scored 24 points off the bench in his return from a sprained left ankle, as the Washington Wizards defeated the Toronto Raptors 109-92 on Sunday night for their seventh straight home win.

John Wall expertly directed the Wizards' offense, finishing with 18 points and 10 assists with only one turnover as Washington (27-46) snapped a two-game losing streak. Emeka Okafor had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jonas Valanciunas scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half and had 10 rebounds for the Raptors (27-46), who have lost seven of eight games. DeMar DeRozen and Kyle Lowry each scored 15 points, but, collectively, Toronto struggled offensively, shooting 39.5 percent from the floor.

QUOTABLE: "We want to end on a good note, make a run for the ninth seed. As a team we want to be able to go into next year with the right mindset, the right goals. Finish up strong so it carries over into next year."

THE STAT: Led by Beal's production, the Wizards held a 62-25 bench-scoring advantage. Kevin Seraphin had 11 of his 13 points in the first half, Trevor Ariza scored 10 and Jan Vesely chipped in with all nine of his points before halftime. The trio scored half of Washington's 60 first half points. The Wizards led 60-50 at halftime.

HOT: Beal missed the previous five games with a sprained left ankle and 11 games this month, but showed no signs of rust in his return. After the Raptors pulled closer at 70-62 in the third quarter, Beal drained three 3-pointers. After Martell Webster's traditional three-point play, the rookie guard sank his fourth shot from beyond the arc in the quarter. Beal, who also made six 3-pointers against Sacramento on January 16, finished 6-for-9 overall,

NOT: DeRozen misfired on 12 of his 18 field goal attempts, including 7 of the 10 in the third quarter.

NOTABLE: Rudy Gay scored 11 points and Sebastian Telfair had 10 for the Raptors, including a half court shot ending the 3-quarter. ...Vesely's nine points matched the total from his previous 13 games. ...Beal, who played for the University of Florida last season, had three times as many 3-pointers as the Gators sank in Sunday's 79-59 Elite Eight loss to Michigan.
