While the Utah Jazz are surging as they push for the playoffs, Deron Williams still is searching for his first victory over his former club.

The Brooklyn Nets guard is 0-3 against the Jazz as he makes his second trip to Salt Lake City as a visitor in Saturday night's matchup.

Utah (37-36) ended a nine-game road slide with Friday's 105-95 victory over Portland. The Jazz closed on a 19-3 run as they pulled even with the Lakers for the Western Conference's eighth and final playoff spot, with Utah currently owning the tiebreaker.

"If we lay everything we have on the floor and come up short, we can deal with that," coach Tyrone Corbin said. "But we can't hold anything back at this point."

Next up as the Jazz try for their third four-game win streak of the season is a visit by Williams, the franchise's first-round pick in 2005. The point guard led the team to four straight postseason appearances from 2007-10 before being dealt to the Nets on Feb 23, 2011.

Williams has helped guide the Nets to their first playoff berth in six seasons. Brooklyn (42-30) trails first-place New York by 3 1/2 games in the Atlantic Division, but leads Chicago and Atlanta in the race for the East's No. 4 seed and home-court advantage in a first-round playoff series.

Utah fans figure to give Williams a hard time after how he was treated in his first game back in Salt Lake City. He was booed every time he touched the ball and missed 12 of 15 shots and finished with 16 points, five assists and five turnovers in a 107-94 defeat Jan. 14, 2012.

Williams is averaging 15.7 points on 31.3 percent shooting in three meetings against the Jazz.

The most recent one was Dec. 18 in Brooklyn. The Nets blew a 13-point halftime lead in a 92-90 loss as Williams was held to 14 points.

The Jazz currently have another guard named Williams who came up big Friday. Mo Williams scored 26 of his 28 points in the second half while Paul Millsap had 25 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double since March 4.

"Everybody came out focused, especially in the second half. We didn't do a good job in the first but in the second half we came out with a different attitude," Millsap said.

Brooklyn trailed by 17 points at halftime of Friday's 109-87 loss at Denver. Deron Williams had a team-high 19 points for the Nets, who are 4-2 on this eight-game trip.

"We've got a game tomorrow night to win or lose," P.J. Carlesimo said. "So we just got to go into Utah, it's the end of the first portion of the trip. They're on a back-to-back too."

Brook Lopez had a difficult night with 11 points on 4-of-15 shooting. Lopez's 11.0 points per game at Utah marks his lowest road average against a West foe.

The Nets are 11-8 in the second half of back-to-back games, but just 1-3 when it happens in consecutive road contests. The Jazz, who have taken seven of the last eight meetings, are 3-1 at home when they have played on the road the previous day.

Foye's 8 3-pointers lift Jazz over Nets, 116-107

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Deron Williams was hoping to quiet the Utah Jazz fans on Saturday.

He only turned up the volume as the Jazz continued their playoff push with a 116-107 victory over Williams' Brooklyn Nets.

Randy Foye scored 26 points, tying a career high with eight 3-pointers, to keep Deron Williams winless against his former team.

"I can't even explain the feeling," Foye said of his record-setting night that included a franchise-record-tying five straight made 3s in the third quarter. "It feels like your body is numb. You are just out there in your own little world. Once you touch the ball and get an open look, it's like throwing a rock in the ocean."

The victory was the fourth straight for Utah (38-36), which has the same record as the Lakers but owns the tiebreaker for the eighth Western Conference spot.

Williams, meanwhile, played better than he did in his first trip back to Salt Lake City since being traded in 2011, but couldn't match the 3-point shooting of Utah. Foye made 8 of 9 overall and the Jazz hit 10 of 17 as a team to set a new franchise mark with 449 3-pointers in a season.

Williams heartily greeted his former teammates, shaking hands before and after the game and offered Foye a hug after his huge night. But he received another rude welcome from the fans.

Many believed he was the reason Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan abruptly quit in February 2011 - two weeks before the team traded their superstar point guard to the Nets.

Sloan was in his usual seat at the arena on Saturday.

"It's getting better," Williams said of the crowd. "Maybe next year I'll get some boos, maybe a couple of cheers. It's good; no animosity. I don't have anything bad to say about the fans. They're going to react and think what they want to think. I can't really change that, but I've just got a lot of love for them."

On his last trip to Utah, he started 0 of 3, was just 2 of 12 at halftime and finished with 16 points on 3-of-15 shooting as the Jazz beat the Nets 107-94 on Jan. 14, 2012.

Despite being booed every time he touched the ball, he came out much stronger Saturday. He opened 3 of 3 and had eight points in the first five minutes. But he couldn't sustain it. He finished 6 of 14, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range, for 21 points, with 11 assists and two turnovers.

Brook Lopez led Brooklyn (42-31) with 27 points and C.J. Watson added 20 points off the bench.

The Jazz did everything they could to make it tough on their former teammate. Point guard Mo Williams went at him strong in the lane. And Gordon Hayward, who played alongside Deron Williams as a rookie, came up with a huge block late in the second quarter that brought the fans to their feet.

Williams was quick to credit Foye, but also said the Nets hurt themselves with 17 turnovers that led to 19 Jazz points.

"You don't like to make excuses, but the Jazz play really well in this building," he said. (When) Foye went nuts in the third, we just never fully recovered."

Utah outscored Brooklyn 31-20 in the third after trailing by two at half.

Both teams played Friday night, with the Nets losing by 22 in Denver and the Jazz rallying to win in Portland.

Brooklyn was playing again without guard Joe Johnson because of a right quad contusion.

"Our defense wasn't good enough," Nets coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "Their offense had a lot to do with it. Fatigue has a little bit to do with it. Joe Johnson not being here has a little bit to do with it."

Foye's onslaught began at the 8:49 mark of the third quarter, with a 3-pointer that pulled Utah within 61-58. By the time he hit his fifth straight of the quarter, Utah was leading 77-68.

Utah led by as many as 16, shooting 56 percent on the night.

The Nets led 54-52 at halftime thanks to a 24-16 edge on the boards, including 11 by Reggie Evans, who finished with 16 overall.

The battle became more physical in the second quarter with Hayward stuffing Deron Williams at one end and Evans delivering a hard foul on Paul Millsap on the fast break at the other.

Al Jefferson and Mo Williams both had 20 points for Utah.

Millsap finished with just nine points, but had a career-high nine assists in the first half, plus six rebounds and two steals on the night.

The Jazz led 33-28 after one. There were 12 lead changes in the first six minutes and zero turnovers, with the Jazz shooting 80 percent (8 of 10) and the Nets 70 percent (7 of 10) during that opening span.

NOTES: Jazz C Enes Kanter remains out indefinitely with a dislocated shoulder, but was in the locker room pregame and headed for the stationary bike. He said he wanted to keep himself in shape for the "summer," but hasn't ruled out that he could be back for the end of the season. ... The Jazz played their final back-to-back of the season. ... Carlesimo had no update on when Johnson might be back in the starting lineup. ... The Nets remained in fourth in the East, and Carlesimo said it's too early to start figuring playoff scenarios.

THE FACTS: The first time Deron Williams played in Utah wearing an opposing jersey he was booed out of the building. This time, Randy Foye shot him out of the arena.

Foye, wearing Williams' old No. 8, buried eight 3-pointers, scored 26 points and keyed a game-changing run in the third quarter as the Jazz defeated the Brooklyn Nets 116-107 on Saturday night.

The game featured a playoff-like atmosphere with the presence of Brooklyn's Williams, and Utah played like a playoff team. The Jazz, who improved to 4-0 against Williams, won their fourth straight game thanks to unselfish offense and stellar shooting.

Al Jefferson and Mo Williams each scored 20 points for Utah.

The Nets' Williams played his best of his four games against the Jazz, scoring 21 points and dishing 11 assists, but it wasn't enough. Brook Lopez scored a game-high 27 points and C.J. Watson had 22 points off the bench for Brooklyn.

THE STAT: Utah's offense was brilliant in scoring 116 points, but its defense was just as important against Brooklyn. The Jazz had 14 steals, up from their season average of 8.4 against a sloppy Nets offense. Utah also forced 17 turnovers, turning them into 19 points. Brooklyn only forced 10 turnovers and recorded five steals. The Jazz allowed the Nets to shoot a good percentage (51.9), but got stops when they needed them.

TURNING POINT: The Jazz broke open a close game midway through the third quarter, putting together a 15-3 run to go ahead 79-68. Foye did almost all of the damage, draining four consecutive 3-pointers during the run. The Nets, meanwhile, missed eight straight shots before Lopez made a reverse layup to make it 74-68. But Foye answered, hitting a 3-pointer and Jefferson capped the spurt with a fadeaway.

HOT: Foye shot 8-for-9 from 3-point range and tied a few team and personal marks. His five 3-pointers in the third quarter tied a single-quarter franchise record. His eight 3-pointers tied a career-high and tied the Utah franchise single-game record. He now shares that record with current Jazz assistant coach Jeff Hornacek. Marvin Williams, taken one pick ahead of Brooklyn's Williams in the 2005 draft, had a solid night. He shot 7-for-9, had 14 points and collected six rebounds. His night was highlighted by his banking in a 22-footer that put Utah ahead 96-81 with 7:24 remaining. Utah ran its offense through Paul Millsap in the first half and responded well. He had a career-high nine assists with seven of them coming in the first half.

NOT: Brooklyn starters Keith Bogans and Gerald Wallace each played about 24 minutes and combined to shoot 2-for-7 and score five points. Gordon Hayward only shot 3-for-12 for Utah, but he did have a crowd-pleasing blocked shot against Williams late in the second quarter. Williams, however, had a highlight-reel crossover move against Hayward right before the break.

QUOTABLE II: "Well, we're playing better. It's great for this group of guys. When we were struggling earlier, I had a feeling that we would get out of it because the guys continued to work, they stayed together, they focused hard. It wasn't for a lack of effort (when the Jazz were losing). We had some time where we didn't play our best basketball, but this group of guys continued to show high character and as a result you see what's going on now. We expect it to continue."

GOOD MOVE: There was no doubt that the Jazz would get up to play against Williams -- they always do. But they still had to execute, and they did it close to their peak level. On offense, Utah moved the ball, made quality passes and took advantage of Foye's hot hand. Foye's shooting opened up things for the rest of the offense as the Jazz dished 27 assists and shot better than 50 percent in each quarter.

BAD MOVE: The Nets' defense overall was quite subpar, but it was particularly dreadful against Foye. Brooklyn didn't rotate to Foye quickly enough or put much pressure on him. For a shooter as streaky as Foye, that's a recipe for disaster. Overall, Brooklyn allowed Utah to shoot 55.6 percent and allowed too many quality looks near the basket.

NOTABLE: Utah has already set a franchise record for most 3-pointers in a season. The Jazz entered the night sharing the mark of 439 made 3-pointers with the 2009-10 team. This Utah team has sunk 449 with eight games left to play. Derrick Favors, acquired by Utah in the Williams trade, had a nice game with 13 points and nine rebounds. The Nets were playing the seventh game on an eight-game road trip. They're 4-3 on the trip. Brooklyn was without guard Joe Johnson for the fourth straight game because of a right quad contusion. Utah reserve center Enes Kanter remains out indefinitely with a separated left shoulder.
