As good as they've been this season, the Oklahoma City Thunder are freshly removed from a humbling reminder of some improvements they can still make.

They'll try to get back on track Wednesday night when they host a Utah Jazz team locked in a tight battle for a playoff spot.

The Thunder own the third-best record in the NBA at 47-17, but they're chasing San Antonio for home-court advantage in the Western Conference. A 105-93 loss to the Spurs on Monday put another game between the two in the standings, but coach Scott Brooks will try to use it as a teaching tool for his club.

"Normally teams don't push us out so we can't run our offense," Brooks said after the Thunder had 17 turnovers and 16 assists. "They did a good job of being physical with us. We're usually in attack mode and we're able to get better catches and better execution. That's something we can get better from."

Kevin Durant scored 26 points and Russell Westbrook had 25, but only one other Oklahoma City player scored in double figures and the team's bench managed 15 points - well below its average of 29.4 that ranks toward the bottom of the league.

The Thunder may have an easier time at the offensive end against the Jazz, who are allowing opponents to shoot 45.6 percent from the floor and are one of the worst in terms of interior defense, surrendering 43.3 points in the paint per game.

Utah (33-31) has lost seven of nine but beat Detroit 103-90 at home Monday to remain tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for the eighth spot in the West.

The Jazz have struggled badly away from home, losing eight of nine to give them a 10-23 road mark. They might have a better chance to earn a win outside of Utah if Mo Williams continues his return to form.

Williams, who missed 32 games with a thumb injury, scored 20 against the Pistons after totaling 18 points in his first three games back.

"I don't know how long it will be before I get fully back," he said. "But this is a good game for me confidence-wise. You miss a lot of games like that and you want to get your confidence back. You want to be able to be aggressive but you don't want to be aggressive and hurt the team."

Though Williams is healthy, Utah may again be without power forward Paul Millsap, who was sidelined Monday with a bruised right quad and patella. Derrick Favors was unimpressive starting in his absence with six points, but reserve Enes Kanter could help fill the void given his strong play of late if Millsap can't go.

Kanter had 14 points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes Monday and is averaging 15.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 68.3 percent shooting - all well above his season marks - in his last six games.

These teams have split two meetings this season with each winning at home. Durant scored 58 points and shot 19 of 29 in those contests.

Durant, Westbrook lead Thunder past Jazz

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The last time these teams met, Utah handed visiting Oklahoma city a 15 point loss. Just over a month later, the Thunder returned the favor on their home court.

Kevin Durant had 23 points and 10 rebounds, Russell Westbrook scored 19 points and Oklahoma City cruised to a 110-87 victory over the Jazz on Wednesday night.

The win came two nights after the Thunder lost at San Antonio to remain in second place in the Western Conference behind the Spurs.

"It was important after a loss to try and bounce back," Durant said. "This team beat us pretty badly up in Utah so we wanted to come out and send a message and we did that."

Durant struggled early, recording more turnovers (6) than points (5) through the first 22 minutes. The NBA's leading scorer didn't convert until 3.8 seconds left in the first quarter and finished the half with eight points.

Westbrook picked up the slack, leading all scorers with 13 points at the break and adding five assists. However, the Thunder All-Star was able to keep the offense attacking while Durant struggled.

Oklahoma City, which owns the third-best record in the league at 48-17, still led 29-19 at the end of the first quarter and 50-28 by halftime.

While Durant struggled, Oklahoma City's defense clamped down.

"I thought that was the game right there, the way we came out in the first and second quarter just playing good defense and scoring off of that," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "In the second we obviously scored much better."

Kevin Martin added 15 points for the Thunder.

Durant found his rhythm in the third quarter, scoring nine of Oklahoma City's first 11 points and 15 total to push the Thunder lead to 32.

His only assist of the night came during halftime when he helped an elderly fan to her feet after she had fallen courtside.

Durant also had eight turnovers, including six in the first half.

"I was struggling early on really bad and I was down on myself," Durant said. "My teammates came to my rescue but (Westbrook) was the main guy. I really appreciate him doing that for me."

Gordon Hayward scored 20 points to lead Utah, and Enes Kanter had 12. The Jazz lost for the eighth time in 10 games, but remained one-half game behind the Los Angeles Lakers for eighth place in the West.

The Jazz shot 35 percent from the floor, committing 24 turnovers and getting outrebounded 37-22.

Before the game, Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said Utah's big men would pose the greatest challenge to his team. The Thunder wound up scoring 38 points in the paint and held Utah's frontcourt of Demarre Carroll, Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson to just 15 points.

Oklahoma City's Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins were a big reason for that. Ibaka scored 10 points and Perkins was scoreless, but turned in a superb defensive effort..

"I thought our bigs did a great job," Brooks said. "I think if you had to give a game ball you would certainly give one to (Perkins). He was a big impact throughout the game not only on his man but anchoring our defense and not allowing any easy points in the paint during that first three quarters. He's been doing it all year. He takes pride in his individual defense and our team defense."

Millsap, who scored seven points to go with seven rebounds, played for the first time since Friday in Chicago after missing two games with inflammation in his right knee. The Jazz were also without backup point guard Jamaal Tinsley, who missed his second game due to illness.

The large lead allowed Brooks the opportunity to play all his reserves.

Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin got the same opportunity for different reasons.

"We have been looking at different lineups the last couple of weeks and we will definitely look at that the next couple of weeks," Brooks said of his approach heading into the final 17 games of the regular season. "Shortening the rotation - we do it game to game. It's hard to play a lot of guys in this NBA season. You have some good players that don't play.

NOTES: Oklahoma City has won nine of its last 12 games. ... Utah slipped to 10-24 on the road. ... Five technical fouls and two flagrant fouls were called on the night.

THE FACTS: The Oklahoma City Thunder used a deadly combination of stifling defense and hot shooting to blitz the Utah Jazz 110-87. OKC led by as many as 32 and took control of the game midway through the first quarter. The Thunder starters left the game late in the third quarter and didn't have to come back in. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 23 points, while also pulling down 10 rebounds for his 19th double-double of the season. Russell Westbrook added 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Had he stayed in the game, he was heading for a triple-double as Westbrook also had nine assists and seven rebounds.

None of the Jazz starters were able to get into double figures before they all sat down. Gordon Hayward came off the bench to lead Utah with 20 points on 6-for-14 shooting. Enes Kanter added 12. They were the only Jazz players to score more than nine points. Al Jefferson led Utah's starters with eight points while pulling down seven rebounds.

OKC sixth man Kevin Martin had 15 points, backup point guard Reggie Jackson added 12 and Derek Fisher and Serge Ibaka each scored 10.

The Thunder shot 53.6 percent for the game and held Utah to 35 percent while outrebounding the Jazz 48-35. The only downside for the Thunder was their inability to hold onto the basketball. OKC turned it over 25 times.

THE STAT: This game really got chippy in the second half and lead official Scott Foster and his crew were busy trying to keep things under control. There were whistles for two flagrant-1 fouls and five technicals.

TURNING POINT: The Thunder played suffocating defense throughout the first half but it was especially difficult for the Jazz to do much of anything in the second quarter. OKC held the Jazz to just nine points on 12.5 percent shooting (3-for-24) to pull out to a 22 point lead.

QUOTABLE II: "We got embarrassed tonight. We're trying to get in the playoffs we can't have games like this. We were down by 20-plus points and that's just stupid. We gotta execute our offense better. We got rattled and started second guessing ourselves."

HOT: The Thunder shot 57.9 percent (11-for-19) in the first quarter...Westbrook was 4-for-6 (nine points in the first 12 minutes...The Jazz shot 50 percent in the second half...Hayward was 5-for-10 in the last 24 minutes...Durant was 5-for-6 (15 points) in the second half.

NOT: The Jazz were held to just 35 percent (7-for-20) in the first quarter and got worse from there finishing the half at just 22.7 percent (10-for-44)...Durant was 1-for-6 (five points) and six turnovers in the first 22 minutes...Jefferson was 3-for-11 (six points) in the first half...Mo Williams was 0-for-5 (0 points) and three turnovers in the first half.

INSIDE THE ARENA: University of Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops was among the 18,203 fans watching the game and part of the 99th consecutive sellout inside Chesapeake Energy Arena.

GOOD MOVE: A stoppage of play when the ball went out of bounds off a Jazz player with eight seconds left in the first quarter allowed Brooks to bring Durant back into the game. The Thunder head coach directed his star forward to act as point guard and bring the ball up the floor. Durant did that and more, making a nifty move at the free throw line and driving to the basket for a layup and getting a foul called on DeMarre Carroll. Durant hit the free throw to give OKC a 13 point lead.

BAD MOVE: An ugly scene in the third quarter when Carroll was called for a flagrant foul for shoving Durant and then Westbrook and Carroll got into a shouting match that threatened to get physical when all the players in the game at that point rushed toward both Carroll and Westbrook. The officials quickly got control of the situation.

BAD MOVE, TOO: Another flagrant foul had to be called in the fourth quarter when Hasheem Thabeet was too aggressive with a shove to Enes Kanter under the basket. That got tempers flaring again and three more technical fouls were whistled on Thabeet, Kanter and Marvin Williams.

NOTABLE: Oklahoma City has now won nine of the last 11 games and has won 20 straight at home against Western Conference opponents. Utah continues to slump having now lost eight of the last 10.
