Russell Westbrook looks far more confident lately than he did the last time the Oklahoma City Thunder visited Dallas.

The red-hot Westbrook will try to help the Thunder notch a sixth straight victory Friday night when they face the Mavericks on the road for the first time since last season's playoffs.

Two of Westbrook's five highest-scoring efforts have come in his last five games. He had a season-high 36 points in a 102-90 victory at Phoenix on Monday and 32 in a 117-97 home win over Denver on Wednesday.

"I come into the game confident, honestly, and I just come out and take the shots that's given to me," Westbrook said.

Westbrook's play is impressing teammate and Western Conference scoring leader Kevin Durant, who's averaging 32.4 points during the win streak.

"What can you do?" Durant said. "He's shooting the jump shot. If you pressure him, then he goes to the rim. It's like a nightmare when he's making that jump shot."

Oklahoma City (31-8) will play at Dallas (17-23) for the first time since completing a first-round playoff sweep there May 5.

Westbrook struggled in the two contests at the American Airlines Center, averaging 16.0 points and 35.5 percent shooting in the two contests. He scored 23.8 points a contest in the other 18 playoff games last year.

Westbrook came through the last time he faced the Mavericks with eight of his 16 points in the overtime of a 111-105 home victory Dec. 27. He redeemed himself after struggling to contain former UCLA teammate Darren Collison, who scored a season-high 32 points for Dallas including a 3-pointer that sent the game to OT.

Collison knows what to expect Friday.

"It's going to be a good game," he said. "Westbrook and Durant, they're very good players, we already know what they can do. They're going to be talented and explosive on the offensive end."

The Thunder have won seven straight meetings with the Mavericks including playoffs.

Durant scored 40 points in the first meeting while Dirk Nowitzki came off the bench for nine and shot 3 of 11 in his second game since returning from knee surgery.

Nowitzki is back in the starting lineup now, and he's regaining his past form in helping Dallas win a season-high four straight. He had 19 points and eight rebounds in a 105-100 home victory over Houston on Wednesday, and said his confidence is improving.

"I had some good looks," Nowitzki said. "That 3 at the end of the third helped me get my rhythm. Sometimes all you need is to see the ball go through the hoop one time."

The Mavs are trying to complete a perfect four-game homestand after holding their first three opponents to averages of 93.7 points and 39.5 percent shooting. The Thunder average 105.4 points and 47.9 percent.

"We're going to have our hands full," Collison said. "The most important thing is that we've got to be tied in like we have been."

The Thunder shoot a league-best 83.6 percent at the foul line while the Mavs yield an average of 26.1 attempts for the second-worst mark in the NBA.

Durant scores 52, Thunder top Mavs 117-114 in OT

DALLAS (AP) Kevin Durant hardly seemed bothered by O.J. Mayo's tying 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation.

It just gave the Oklahoma City star a chance for a career high and the first 50-point game in the NBA this season.

Durant scored 52 points, including the go-ahead basket with 16.9 seconds remaining in overtime, and the Thunder turned away a big Dallas rally for a 117-114 victory that extended their winning streak to six games and ended the Mavericks' season-best run of four straight.

A night after being voted a starter for the All-Star game, Durant had a little trouble from the field, going 13 of 31. But he was 21 of 21 from the foul line, and the Thunder made all 12 of their free throws in the fourth quarter.

That looked as though it would be enough to hold off the Mavericks until Mayo hit his tying 3-pointer with two defenders in his face with 2.3 seconds left in regulation.

Vince Carter, who kept the Mavericks close when Oklahoma City threatened to blow them out in the first half, had a season-high 29 points. He hit three free throws to start overtime when he was fouled on a 3-pointer, but Durant answered with a pair of freebies on the other end.

Durant went on to score nine of Oklahoma City's 12 points in overtime and had three go-ahead buckets to help the Thunder avoid losing for the first time in 28 games when leading after three quarters. The Thunder blew a 14-point lead in the second half.

"Experience has helped me a lot," said Durant, whose previous career high was 51 against Denver last February. "If I look like I'm out there panicking, my teammates will look at me and feel the same way. I've got to be cool. If I miss a shot, so be it. I'm sure opportunity will come back around sooner or later."

Dirk Nowitzki bounced back from a dreadful shooting night to score 12 in the fourth quarter, but the Mavericks couldn't get him the ball trailing by two in the final seconds of overtime. Mike James, who came in shooting less than 20 percent but had hit a go-ahead 3 earlier in the extra period, ended up with the ball well behind the arc with the shot clock dwindling. His shot barely hit the front of the rim.

Russell Westbrook, who scored 31, missed a free throw to give the Mavericks one more chance to tie, but Carter's desperation 3 at the buzzer was short.

"The play blew up and Mike ended up with it, and it was unfair to him," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "It was a play that didn't work, and it was my responsibility."

Nowitzki finished with 18 points after starting 1 of 11 from the field, salvaging his 10th straight double-figure game after scoring in single digits the first four games following his return from missing 27 games after right knee surgery.

The Mavericks had six players in double figures for the fourth straight game. Mayo had 18 points and seven assists, and Darren Collison scored 15.

Elton Brand had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Dallas, while Serge Ibaka had 11 points and 14 boards for the Thunder.

Durant put Oklahoma City ahead 99-98 on a pair of free throws after he was fouled on a drive with 1:32 left in regulation. He hit two more after he was fouled following a rebound of a miss by Nowitzki, and Oklahoma City kept the lead until Mayo's tying 3-pointer.

"There are some things that we obviously could have done to limit him," Carlisle said of Durant. "He had a great game, and he is the best shooter on the planet."

Neither team led by more than three in the final 6 minutes of regulation and overtime.

The Mavericks, who earlier this season tied an NBA record with their 10th straight overtime loss, fell to 1-8 in overtime games this season. Two of the losses have been to the Thunder, who improved to 4-0 in overtime.

"It always seems to be a fourth-quarter game or overtime game this year," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "Both teams did not want to lose this game."

The Mavericks trailed 87-79 when Carter hit a free throw and Nowitzki had a tip-in to start a 13-2 run that gave Dallas its first lead since the first quarter. Nowitzki's free throws gave the Mavericks the lead at 90-89 with 6:41 left.

NOTES: Nowitzki was called for a technical foul during a timeout, and Thunder C Kendrick Perkins picked up one when he got in Chris Kaman's face after Perkins was called for a foul for bumping Kaman while they were battling for a rebound. ... Mavericks F Elton Brand recorded the 400th double-double of his career Wednesday against Houston. He had 11 points and 10 rebounds. ... Durant will start in the All-Star game Feb. 17 in Houston. His coach, Brooks, won't be in charge. Brooks is ineligible to lead the Western Conference stars because he did it last year. "It was pretty cool to be able to meet some of the players and see how they are off the court," Brooks said. "Whoever gets it will have a great experience in a great city."

THE FACTS: Kevin Durant poured in a career-high 52 points, including nine of Oklahoma City's 12 points in overtime to lead the Thunder to a thrilling 117-114 victory Friday against the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center. The Thunder (32-8) won their sixth straight and snapped a four-game winning streak by a gutsy Dallas (17-24) squad that overcame a 14-point second-half deficit and forced the extra session with a 3-pointer by O.J. Mayo with 2.3 seconds left.

Russell Westbrook added 31 points and Serge Ibaka had 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Thunder, who hurt the Mavericks all night with offensive rebounds (18). They outscored Dallas 25-11 in second-chance points, including a huge 3-pointer by Durant in overtime. Oklahoma City also took advantage of some untimely Mavs miscues, scoring 24 points off 16 turnovers.

Vince Carter led the Mavericks with a season-high 29 points off the bench. Dirk Nowitzki and Mayo scored 18 each, Darren Collison finished with 15 points and Elton Brand posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards. Dallas opened the fourth quarter with a 20-8 run to take its first lead since the first quarter, but simply had no answer for Durant.

QUOTABLE: "Sometimes when your shot doesn't fall, you've got to find a way to attack the basket and will yourself to get opportunities. He did that tonight and got opportunities at the free-throw line. He's an amazing player and he deserves everything that he has earned."

THE STAT: The Mavericks are 1-8 in overtime, including two losses to the Thunder. The NBA record for most overtime losses in a season is 10, shared by the Baltimore Bullets (1952-53) and the Los Angeles Clippers (2000-01).

TURNING POINT: Led by Durant's phenomenal 21-for-21 effort (10-for-10 in the fourth quarter and overtime), the Thunder shot 91.7 percent from the line (33-for-36). The only player in NBA history to make more free throws in a game without a miss was Atlanta's Dominique Wilkins, who went 23-for-23 against Chicago on Dec. 8, 1992. The Nets' Deron Williams also had a 21-for-21 game on March 4, 2012 against Charlotte.

HOT: Nowitzki and Brand accounted for 22 of the Mavs' 33 points and nine of the team's 11 rebounds during the fourth quarter. ... Durant scored 16 in the third quarter. ... Carter finished 10-for-17 from the field and 4-for-8 from 3-point distance in his highest-scoring game as a Maverick.

NOT: Through the first three quarters, Nowitzki and Brand had a combined three points on 1-for-17 shooting. Nowitzki missed his first seven shots and Brand missed his first six.

BAD MOVE: Journeyman point guard Mike James, who just signed a second 10-day contract, definitely isn't the player Mavericks fans expected to take the biggest shot of the night with 3.9 seconds left and Dallas down by two. Although he had made a 3-pointer earlier in the overtime session, his shot from at least 3 feet behind the arc came with Kendrick Perkins in his face and bounced off the rim.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Durant's previous career high was 51 points against Denver on Feb. 19, 2012. It matched the third-highest total ever by a Mavericks opponent, trailing the 62 scored by Kobe Bryant on Dec. 20, 2005 and 53 points by Tim Duncan on Dec. 26, 2001. Durant added nine rebounds.

NOTABLE: This was the opener of a season-long six-game, 10-day road trip for the Thunder. ... It was Oklahoma City's first game at the American Airlines Center since finishing a first-round playoff sweep last season. ... The Thunder scored 30 points in the first quarter, the ninth time they have had 30-plus in the opening period this season. ... Nowitzki became the 23rd player in NBA history with 8,500 made field goals. ... Oklahoma City is 20-4 when Durant and Westbrook both score at least 20. ...
