The San Antonio Spurs have put an awful stretch behind them and will enter the playoffs as the Western Conference's top seed.

They're now focused on securing home-court advantage throughout the postseason.

The Spurs look to win their fourth in a row and sweep the season series from the struggling Utah Jazz on Saturday night at the AT&T Center.

After dropping six straight from March 23-April 1 - its longest skid in 14 years - and seeing its conference lead dwindle to 1 1/2 games, San Antonio (60-19) has bounced back with three consecutive victories.

The Spurs wrapped up first place in the West on Wednesday when they best Sacramento 124-92 and the Los Angeles Lakers lost 86-85 to the Jazz. Manu Ginobili had a game-high 25 points for San Antonio, which shot 60.5 percent in its most lopsided win of the season.

The Spurs seem have quieted the critics with their turnaround, but they're not done yet. San Antonio is just ahead of Chicago for the top record in the NBA and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

"We know we have a big chance on Saturday against the Jazz," Ginobili said. "We were a little worried (during our losing streak). We knew it wasn't the end of the world to finish second, but at the same time after the kind of season we had, we wanted (the top seed in the West).

"We got a great opportunity, it's not over yet, and we definitely want to get the next one."

Although Utah knocked off the Lakers on Wednesday, that is its only victory in the last three weeks.

The Jazz (37-42) followed up that win with a 98-87 loss to Portland the following night, their ninth defeat in 10 games. That guaranteed Utah would finish with a losing record for only the second time since 1982-83.

San Antonio has handed Utah two losses this season, and can sweep the season series for the second time in three years after losing all four games to the Jazz in 2009-10.

These teams haven't met since the Spurs' 112-105 win in Salt Lake City on Jan. 26, as San Antonio overcame a 39-point performance from now-former Jazz star Deron Williams. Ginobili had 26 points for San Antonio, while Tony Parker scored 23.

The Spurs allowed Utah to shoot 54.7 percent in that game, but they're playing much better defensively, yielding an average of 93.0 points in the last three. They allowed 108.3 points and 50.3 percent shooting during the losing streak.

"We have been concentrating on the defense," coach Gregg Popovich said. "That is where we really need to improve the most. (These last two games) we played very good defense, and it fueled the offense. That is where it all starts for us."

That could spell trouble for Utah, which has averaged 87.8 points in its last six games. The Jazz are 2-16 when scoring 89 or fewer points, and the Spurs are 14-1 when holding opponents to fewer than 90.

"When you are struggling, everyone is concerned with their points," Utah coach Ty Corbin said. "If you're not making points, there are other things you can do to help."

Jazz guard Devin Harris returned Thursday after missing five games with a strained hamstring. He tied a career best with five 3-pointers and led Utah with 26 points, but committed seven turnovers.

Spurs beat reeling Jazz for 4th straight win

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Richard Jefferson said the San Antonio Spurs want to finish with the NBA's best record. Then someone told him how many more victories it could take to assure that.

"We got to win two more?" Jefferson said.

They'll try, but the Spurs have other priorities.

Jefferson scored 20 points and the Spurs, mindful of the playoffs starting next weekend, won their fourth in a row while starting to rest some players in a 111-102 win over the Utah Jazz on Saturday night.

San Antonio (61-19) has already locked up the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, and, with two games left, are 1 1/2 games ahead of Chicago for the NBA's best record. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker all started and played more than 20 minutes while Antonio McDyess got the night off.

Coach Gregg Popovich said he's "certainly not going to overplay anybody" with the playoffs starting next week but also doesn't want to fall out of rhythm..

"We've played this well all season long we'd love to finish out atop the NBA," said Duncan, who had 10 points. "We're going to try to do the best of managing minutes and winning games and doing that all at the same time."

Al Jefferson scored 23 points as the Jazz lost for the 10th time in 11 games, unable to pull a second upset this week after beating the Los Angeles Lakers.

That stunner Wednesday is what clinched the fifth No. 1 seed for the Spurs in the Tim Duncan era. The Spurs visit the Lakers on Tuesday, but with little at stake, the game hardly figures to be a potential Western Conference finals preview.

The Jazz, who won't be in the playoffs for the first time in five years, just want to get through their season finale Wednesday.

Coach Tyrone Corbin had only 10 healthy players and guessed it might stay that way in their final two games. Derrick Favors scored 17 points and Paul Millsap added 16.

"We gotta finish this season with our head up high and have some pride for ourselves. We just ain't going out here and lay down," Al Jefferson said. "We're going to play hard. I really thought we had a chance to win the game tonight. We just made too many mistakes."

Ginobili had 12 points in 27 minutes and Parker had 13 in 29 minutes. Both played into the fourth when the Jazz crept within single digits.

Utah trailed by 11 at halftime but quickly fell behind in the third, when San Antonio stretched the lead to 17 while shooting 12 of 15 from the field.

Richard Jefferson put together his first 20-point game since November by shooting 6 of 10 from the field and hitting four 3-pointers. His most memorable play, however, came on an alley-oop dunk from Gary Neal moments after George Hill wowed the crowd with an impressive one-handed dunk over Earl Watson.

Who the Spurs will meet in the first round is still up in the air. Memphis held the No. 8 seed on Saturday but was a game behind New Orleans, which faces the Grizzlies on Sunday. Portland, currently holding the No. 6 spot, could also drop to the final slot.

"You take whoever comes," Jefferson said.

Devin Harris added 13 points for Utah on just 3 of 11 shooting. He also took two tumbles into the front row, the second time into a young fan. A member of the Spurs' training staff went over to check on the boy, who appeared to be OK.

Harris gave the boy a token of apology: his wristband.

NOTES: Popovich needs three wins to reach 800 with the Spurs. ... San Antonio swept the season series 3-0 over Utah. ... The Spurs must win their final two games (Lakers, Phoenix) to match their franchise-record 63 wins set in 2005-06.

THE FACTS: Richard Jefferson had a 20-point game for the first time in 72 games, and the Spurs took advantage of Jefferson's 4-of-7 3-point shooting to hand the Utah Jazz their 10th loss in 11 games with a 111-102 victory Saturday at AT&T Center. Jefferson scored 20 (he hadn't scored that many since Nov. 10) as the Spurs (61-19) shot 58 percent from the floor -- they've shot 55 percent the past three games. The Jazz (37-42) managed to shoot 54 percent but still lost.

QUOTABLE: "All year long, and pretty much most of my career, whenever I score big numbers it's because my teammates got me the ball. A lob from Gary Neal, some passes from Tony Parker early really got me going. Last year I struggled a little bit, especially from the 3-point line. This summer when I worked with the coaches I really focused in on that because that was my role. It's really helped me this season."

THE STAT: After missing their first six shots to open the game, the Spurs hit 33 of their next 44 shots (75 percent) to take a 89-76 lead into the fourth quarter.

TURNING POINT: Just ask Earl Watson; he had the best view of the Spurs 9-0 finish to end the first half, though it wasn't any fault of his own. After Jefferson hit a 3-pointer to give San Antonio a 51-46 lead with 1:39 to go before halftime, the Spurs forced a turnover and George Hill got past Kyle Weaver before slamming one down over Watson. The Spurs got loose on another fastbreak on the next possession, and Hill lobbed one to Jefferson for a dunk over Watson again. It went from a 2-point game to the Spurs leading 57-46 at halftime.

HOT: Jefferson is (14-for-23) from 3-point territory the past six games.

NOT: C.J. Miles was 1-for-5, and he's 9-for-37 from the floor (24 percent) the past four games.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: It was a good night to have anyone named Jefferson. Al Jefferson scored 23 points and had eight rebounds. It's his best scoring night since he went for 32 on March 23.

GOOD MOVE: Whether or not Tiago Splitter makes much of an appearance in the playoffs remains to be seen, but he did show one of his skills during almost 19 minutes against the Jazz. On consecutive trips down the floor during the fourth quarter, Splitter got in front of Gordon Hayward and drew an easy charging call.

ROOKIE WATCH: Derrick Favors hit 8-for-13 shots for 17 points in 29 minutes. Hayward was 4-for-7 for nine points in 33 minutes. Jeremy Evans was 4-for-6 for eight points and five rebounds in 21 minutes. Splitter was 5-for-7 for 13 points and eight rebounds.

NOTABLE: This completes the Spurs' regular-season home schedule, and the 36-5 record is the team's best since the 2004-05 season.
