A little more than halfway through his first NBA season, Blake Griffin is already the star he was expected to become when drafted No. 1 overall in 2009.

For the first time as a pro, the rookie All-Star plays in his hometown when the Los Angeles Clippers try for a fifth consecutive road victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night.

A knee injury kept the Oklahoma City native from playing at all last season, when Los Angeles won 101-93 at the Thunder, but nothing will stop Griffin from taking the court this time.

After competing in his first All-Star game and clearing the hood of a car to win the slam dunk contest over the weekend, Griffin (22.8 points, 12.6 rebounds per game) returns to the area where he starred as a prep for nearby Oklahoma Christian School.

"At home and on the road, he's an exciting player to watch, to get the fans out of their seats," Clippers guard Randy Foye said. "Just like in baseball, chicks dig the long ball. Chicks dig when guys can fly and jump."

While the former national player of the year at Oklahoma hopes to put on a show in his hometown, Griffin's main focus should be helping the Clippers (21-35) remain undefeated against the Thunder (35-19) in Oklahoma City.

The Clippers and Boston are each 3-0 all-time at Oklahoma City, and are the only teams the Thunder have yet to beat on their home floor since relocating from Seattle prior to the 2008-09 season. The Clippers have not lost a road game to the Thunder franchise since Dec. 5. 2007.

They also are looking for a second straight victory overall in this series after winning 107-92 at home Nov. 3. Griffin had 18 points and nine rebounds as the Clippers held the Thunder to 37.8 percent shooting. NBA scoring leader Kevin Durant (28.9 ppg) shot 6 of 24 from the field and finished with 16 points.

The Thunder have shot 40.4 percent and averaged 88.3 points during the four-game home skid versus Los Angeles.

Durant, who had 34 points in Sunday's All-Star game, scored 40 in the teams' last meeting in Oklahoma City.

The Thunder could be in good position to end their home drought against the Clippers. Northwest Division-leading Oklahoma City has won seven of 10 overall, and entered the break with a 126-96 home victory over Sacramento last Tuesday.

Daequan Cook scored 20 points off the bench to lead seven players in double figures for the Thunder, who scored a season-high 68 points in the first half and held the Kings to 40.2 percent shooting on the night.

"It all starts on the defensive end for our team," Cook said. "If we bring it on the defensive end, we are going to get rewarded on the offensive end."

Los Angeles has dropped seven of nine, but entered the break on a positive note by winning 98-90 at Minnesota on Wednesday. Griffin had 29 points to lead all scorers.

Chris Kaman returned after missing 34 games with an ankle injury, and had four points with six rebounds in nine minutes off the bench.

While Kaman is back in the mix, Clippers leading scorer Eric Gordon (24.1 ppg) will miss his 14th straight game due to a broken wrist.

Clippers lose to Thunder as Griffin returns home

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Blake Griffin's return home featured a rousing start and a forgettable finish.

Jeff Green scored 22 points, Kevin Durant added 21 and the Oklahoma City Thunder spoiled Griffin's return to his hometown by beating the Los Angeles Clippers 111-88 on Tuesday night.

Griffin made a run at his first career triple-double but came up two assists shy. He followed his slam dunk title and rare All-Star appearance by a rookie by amassing 28 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, but the Clippers sorely missed him when he was out of the game.

Los Angeles gave up a 15-0 run with Griffin on the bench at the end of the first half with three fouls, and he was out again when the Thunder put it away early in the fourth quarter.

"This is where Blake started his career and went to college. It was just a homecoming for him, but the game was no different - us trying to come into tonight and get a victory," Green said.

After a weekend when he leaped over the hood of a car to become the NBA slam dunk champion in his home arena, it was back to the road for Griffin and the Clippers. Los Angeles fell to 2-7 on an 11-game road trip that was interrupted by the All-Star break and ends in its own arena as the away team against the Lakers.

"Definitely tired from the All-Star weekend. However, every team has to play on the road and we just need to do a better job of keeping our stamina up," said Griffin, who logged his 47th double-double and matched his career high in assists.

James Harden added 19 points off the bench and Russell Westbrook scored 13 for the Thunder, who snapped a four-game home losing streak against the Clippers dating back to the franchise's time in Seattle. Durant and Westbrook got the entire fourth quarter off with a visit to league-leading San Antonio looming Wednesday.

"I'm excited. I think we're starting to transform into a different team these last 27 games," Durant said. "We're moving in the right direction."

The Thunder's win was all but overshadowed by the return of Griffin, who grew up winning four straight state titles in Oklahoma City before playing two seasons down the road at the University of Oklahoma and being selected the college player of the year.

He received a hearty ovation when he was the fourth Clippers starter introduced, but soon enough he was bringing on groans and boos from the crowd. He drew two fouls against Green in the first 72 seconds and scored the first eight points for Los Angeles.

Just past the midway point of the first quarter, Griffin had also drawn two fouls against Serge Ibaka - Green's replacement - and one apiece against Nenad Krstic and Nick Collison while racking up 12 points and five rebounds.

All the fouls were a part of Thunder coach Scott Brooks' game plan, refusing to let Griffin energize his team.

"You wrap him up, put him at the line, don't let them play to their strengths," Brooks said. "We have enough bodies that we can throw multiple players at players."

Eventually, the tables turned.

The game was tied at 44 when Griffin picked up his third foul with 4 minutes left in the first half and left the game. Krstic converted a three-point play to put the Thunder on top, and Oklahoma City reeled off the last 15 points of the quarter to take a 62-46 halftime lead after Daequan Cook's 3-pointer.

Griffin had the first three baskets as Los Angeles mounted a 14-6 comeback, getting within 76-67 on Eric Bledsoe's 3-pointer from the left wing with 2:34 left in the third quarter. But then the Clippers went 11 straight possessions without scoring - again with Griffin on the bench - and Oklahoma City scored 12 straight points.

"It was kind of turnover after turnover, and we were chasing them again," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "Too many turnovers and too many missed free throws."

Harden and Green started the fourth with back-to-back 3-pointers, and Harden's second straight layup made it 88-67 with 8:44 to play.

By the time Griffin came back and threw down one of his highlight-reel dunks - a right-handed alley-oop slam - it hardly mattered. He picked up his eighth assist on Bledsoe's 3 with 3:43 left but was pulled with the rest of the Clippers' starters 20 seconds later.

"The guy is really a good player. I don't look at him and say that he is a good young player. He is a man already, and he has proved that this entire season," Brooks said.

"You don't do what he does night in and night out. Some players can have a game like this every now and then, but he's consistent. He brings everything he has every night."

Durant, the reigning NBA scoring champion and current scoring leader, went as far as saying Griffin was "still the man in Oklahoma City."

"Kevin has been the man since the first year we moved here, and that won't change at all," Green said. "He was just being humble."

Notes: Clippers C Chris Kaman scored eight points in 20 minutes in his second game back after missing more than two months with a left ankle injury. ... Oklahoma City's 28 games left after the All-Star break rank second in the Western Conference, behind only Sacramento. Next up are road games at San Antonio and Orlando and then a Sunday home game against the Los Angeles Lakers. "We can't look ahead," Brooks said. "If you do, it's overwhelming." ... Among those seated courtside were former Oklahoma football players Sam Bradford and Jermaine Gresham, Toronto Blue Jays World Series hero Joe Carter (an Oklahoma City native) and former Gov. Brad Henry.

Clippers-Thunder notebook

THE FACTS: Oklahoma City Thunder fans warmly welcomed hometown favorite Blake Griffin to Oklahoma City Arena. The Thunder did not, finishing the first half with a big run, 18-2, and building as much as a 26-point lead to cruise past the Los Angeles Clippers 111-88.

Griffin was the game's leading scorer with 28 points. He also pulled down 11 rebounds for his 47th double-double of the season. Jeff Green led the Thunder with 22 points. Kevin Durant added 21 and James Harden came off the bench to contribute 19. The Thunder have now won eight of their last 11 games. The Clippers are going the other way having now lost eight of their last 10. This is also the first time the Thunder has beaten the Clippers in OKC.

QUOTABLE: "It was a good win, everybody chipped in and helped us win this game tonight."

THE STAT: All 12 players on the Thunder roster scored. The bench players contributed 44 points.

TURNING POINT: The end of the first half and the beginning of the fourth quarter. Over the last four minutes of the first half, Oklahoma City outscored LA 18-2. The Thunder were 4-for-5 from the field and 9-for-9 at the free throw stripe. The Clippers were 1-for-7 from the field and did not attempt a free throw. Then to start the fourth quarter Oklahoma City went on a 10-0 run that extended out to 20-7 to put the game away.

QUOTABLE II: "I thought those last three minutes of the first half we played about as good as we can play on the defensive end."

HOT: More than two and a half quarters into the game Oklahoma City was 24-for-28 (85.7%) from the free throw line.

NOT: During that same time Los Angeles was just 9-for-19 (47.4%) at the stripe.

INSIDE THE ARENA: A playoff type atmosphere as Thunder fans welcomed back hometown favorite Griffin, who grew up in Oklahoma City and played his college ball at the University of Oklahoma. The sellout crowd gave Griffin a rousing ovation when he was introduced but after that treated him like any other opposing player. Among the fans sitting court-side was St. Louis Rams quarterback and former OU Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford, former Toronto Blue Jays star and OKC native Joe Carter and Cincinnati Bengals tight end and former OU star Jermaine Gresham.

GOOD MOVES: Early in the game Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook drove into the lane and fired a behind-the-back bounce pass to center Serge Ibaka who leapt into the air and slammed it home. Not to be out-done, Clippers point guard Baron Davis led a fast break right after that Ibaka dunk and found a wide open Blake Griffin along the baseline who also leapt into the air for a slam.

ROOKIE WATCH: Clippers forward Blake Griffin, playing his first NBA game back in his hometown, was on the floor for 33 minutes. He scored 28 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished eight assists. But he struggled at the stripe going just 10-for-17. Thunder center Cole Aldrich saw his first action in several weeks. He played 11:20, scoring two points and pulling down four rebounds. He also blocked a shot.

NOTABLE: After scoring only five "blowout" wins through January, the Thunder have now posted "blowouts" in three of their last four wins, 121-105 at Utah, 126-96 over Sacramento and tonight's 111-88 win over the Clippers.
