The Indiana Pacers keep getting out to quick starts under interim coach Frank Vogel.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are very happy with the start to their road trip.

The Pacers look to extend their season-high winning streak at Conseco Fieldhouse to five Friday night when they face a Timberwolves team trying to post three straight road victories for the first time in two seasons.

Since coach Jim O'Brien was fired Jan. 30, the Pacers (22-28) have won five of six under Vogel to move into eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Wednesday's 104-103 victory over Charlotte pushed Indiana one game ahead of the Bobcats and within a game of seventh-place Philadelphia.

"It's big right now, but we have higher aspirations than the eighth spot," Vogel said. "We think we're a very good basketball team. We're hoping to make a run down the stretch that's going to be special."

Hot starts could help the Pacers make that push. They made 13 of 24 shots in the opening 12 minutes Wednesday for their eighth consecutive game at 50 percent or better in the first quarter - they've led after seven of them. They are averaging 31.7 points in that period under Vogel and nearly 10 more per game since the former assistant took charge.

They've averaged 108.0 points during their four-game win streak at home.

In Minnesota's last visit to Conseco Fieldhouse, Indiana led 73-45 at halftime and rolled to a 122-111 victory Jan. 2, 2010.

The Pacers have won 16 of 20 all-time at home in this matchup, but the Timberwolves (13-39) enter this contest with plenty of confidence after defeating New Orleans and Houston to open their three-game trip.

Playing without starters Michael Beasley (ankle), Darko Milicic (hip) and Luke Ridnour (personal reasons), who all could be out again Friday, Minnesota snapped a 13-game skid to the Rockets with Tuesday's 112-108 victory.

"We've got guys down, guys injured, guys out for personal reasons," Wayne Ellington said after scoring 18 points off the bench. "We were really trying to pick each other up and do everything as a unit, and that ended up paying off for us."

While coach Kurt Rambis has pieced together starting lineups with Jonny Flynn, Wes Johnson and backup center Nikola Pekovic, All-Star forward Kevin Love has been the team's most consistent player. He had 20 points and 14 rebounds Tuesday for his 38th straight double-double, breaking Kevin Garnett's team record.

It's the longest such streak since Moses Malone had 44 in a row for Philadelphia in 1982-83.

"There are nights where it's bittersweet (when I get a double-double)," Love said. "Tonight, it was more sweet than anything, because we got the win and got it on the road."

Love was held to 16 points and eight rebounds in last season's loss in Indiana, which snapped his season-high 11-game double-double streak.

Pacers center Roy Hibbert has four double-doubles in six games under Vogel while averaging 18.7 points, 5.8 more than his season average. He had a career high-tying 29 points with 10 rebounds Wednesday.

Hibbert averaged 18.0 points as the Pacers and Timberwolves split two meetings last season.

Minnesota, 2-23 on the road prior to this trip, last won three straight away from home April 3-8, 2009.

Surging Pacers rally past Timberwolves 116-105

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) To Dahntay Jones, there's nothing like opportunity, but consistency doesn't hurt, either.

Lately, he has had both. And the Indiana Pacers again reaped the benefits Friday night.

Jones, a veteran forward who played sparingly this season until a recent coaching change, scored all 19 of his points in the fourth quarter, and the Pacers pulled out a 116-105 come-from-behind victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"Dahntay Jones," Timberwolves forward Kevin Love said, "played out of his mind."

Danny Granger also had 19 points for Indiana, which rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit for its sixth victory in seven games under interim coach Frank Vogel. But it was Indiana's bench - particularly Jones - that keyed the victory, with the Pacers outscoring the Timberwolves 33-15 in the fourth quarter. Pacers reserves scored 29 fourth-quarter points.

Backup A.J. Price scored eight points during a 10-3 run to start the fourth quarter for Indiana, which trailed by seven to start the period. Two free throws by Jones gave the Pacers their first lead of the second half, 95-94, with 9 minutes remaining, and Indiana did not trail again.

Jones, who played sparingly under former coach Jim O'Brien, made six of seven shots from the field, and also had a key assist in the fourth quarter. His two 3-pointers matched his total in the first 50 games.

"Our bench came in and took over the game," Vogel said. "A.J. Price got it started with a big lift, and Dahntay Jones was red hot. Dahntay stays ready. He's a good basketball player, a good defensive player and he got hot tonight."

Jones has led the Pacers in scoring in two of the last four games.

"It's a confidence-builder when you know when you're going to come in and get minutes," Jones said. "Frank's instilled confidence in everybody. That's what happens.

"I just took the open shot and felt pretty good when it was released."

Minnesota coach Kurt Rambis said Jones "just had an amazing night."

"I didn't do enough to help my team with stopping Dahntay Jones," Rambis said. "I should have done better things to find ways to get stops and take him out of the ballgame. We tried fronting, changed our matchup, came with different people. We just couldn't find a way to get stops. It seems they always had a counter for us."

Kevin Love finished with 22 points to lead Minnesota, which entered having won its last two. He also finished with 15 rebounds, and has 39 consecutive double-doubles - the longest streak in the NBA since Moses Malone's 44 in 1982-1983.

Forward Josh McRoberts had 12 points and rookie Paul George had 11 points and four assists for Indiana.

Mike Dunleavy scored 14 of the first 16 points for the Pacers, who led 18-9 early before the Timberwolves quickly cut into the lead and made it a tight game through halftime. Dunleavy shot 4 of 4 early, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range. He also had a 3-pointer negated because he stepped out of bounds.

Lazar Hayward had 12 points off the bench in the first half for Minnesota, which tied it late in the first quarter and made it a 58-56 lead at halftime. Minnesota pushed its lead to 67-58 before Indiana stabilized and went on a 16-8 run. It stayed close until Jones got hot from inside and outside in the final period.

Tyler Hansbrough added 14 for Indiana, with 10 coming in the first half, but Timberwolves forward Wayne Ellington said, "To be honest, Dahntay Jones was the 'X' factor.

"He came off the bench and gave them a huge spark. In my opinion, if he doesn't have that type of game, it would have been a lot closer at the end."

NOTES: Pacers guard Brandon Rush is off the injury report after missing eight games, including six with a sprained right ankle and the past two because of a coach's decision. Vogel said even with Rush healthy, he likely won't immediately alter the rotation. ... Minnesota entered on its first two-game road winning streak since 2009 despite missing Michael Beasley, Darko Milicic and Luke Ridnour for the two victories. None of the three played Friday.

THE FACTS: Dahntay Jones scored 17 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, leading the suddenly-hot Indiana Pacers to 116-105 come-from-behind victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Indianapolis Friday night.

Jones, who played sparingly under former Pacers coach Jim O'Brien, shot 6 of 7 from the field Friday, including 5 of 6 in the fourth quarter. He also made each of his fourth quarter 3-point field goals.

The Pacers have won six of seven games since Frank Vogel took over as interim coach.

Danny Granger also had 19 points for Indiana, and second-year Pacers veteran Tyler Hansbrough scored 14 points.

Kevin Love had 22 points for Minnesota and the Pacers have now won a season-high five consecutive games at Conseco Fieldhouse.

QUOTABLE: "I kept calling his (Jones) number until they did something different. They never did. He continued to make plays for us."

THE STAT: The Pacers outscored the Timberwolves 33-15 in the fourth quarter, with 29 of those points coming from reserves. Indiana shot 76.9 percent in the period and Price also had eight fourth-quarter points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field.

TURNING POINT: For the Timberwolves, it came early. At 13-39 -- and with the Pacers entering the game having won five of six -- it would have been easy for Minnesota to wilt when the Pacers started the game hot. But after the Pacers took a nine-point lead, Minnesota quickly rallied and tied the game 26-26 with a 17-8 first-quarter run. Minnesota led or kept the game close until the Pacers reserves took over in the second half of the fourth quarter.

QUOTABLE II: "Our aggressive wasn't where it needed to be and our toughness wasn't where it needed to be. That second unit that came in to start the fourth -- that's one of the things we talked about the most: to come in and bring aggression and intensity. That turned the game for us."

HOT: It's hard to start much hotter than Pacers forward Mike Dunleavy started Friday. He had 14 points in the first half of the first quarter, shooting 4 of 4 from the field, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range. He also made 3 of 4 free throws. How hot was Dunleavy? He also had one 3-point field goal on a fast break waved off because officials ruled he had stepped out of bounds while receiving a pass. He had 14 of the first 16 points with 7:40 remaining in the first quarter.

NOT: Pacers center Roy Hibbert, after several strong games since Vogel took over as interim coach, was quiet much of the game Friday. The third-year veteran scored six points and finished with five rebounds.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Love was productive throughout for the Timberwolves, driving effectively and stepping outside to be a 3-point threat. He finished with 22 points and and 15 rebounds, and was at his best as Minnesota took the lead and maintained momentum in the second and third quarters. He has recorded 39 consecutive double-doubles, a team record and the longest streak in the NBA since Moses Malone recorded 44 consecutive double-doubles during the 1982-1983 season.

GOOD MOVE: The insertion of Jones and Price into the game for the Pacers to start the fourth quarter. Jones has played a more extensive role under Vogel and he had hit just two 3-pointers this season before converting each of his two 3-point attempts in the fourth quarter Friday.

QUOTABLE III: "That's what our second unit's responsibility is -- to play scrappy, to play defense. We just have to show we want the game more than the other team."

ROOKIE WATCH: Rookie Paul George was used sparingly at times early, but he continues to provide Indiana solid and productive minutes off the bench. He had 11 points on Friday, and his 3-point field goal from 26 feet tied the game 31-31 at the end of the first quarter.

NOTABLE: Pacers guard Brandon Rush, who had several productive stretches early in the season under O'Brien, is off the injury report after missing two weeks with a sprained right ankle. Vogel said while Rush is healthy the rotation likely won't change unless something changes to give him reason to alter the lineup. . . . The Timberwolves had entered the game on a two-game road winning streak -- their first since 2009 -- despite the absence of Michael Beasley, Darko Milicic and Luke Ridnour the past two games.
