LeBron James led the short-handed Miami Heat to a one-point win in their last matchup with the Detroit Pistons.

With Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh back on the court, though, he likely won't need to carry the load himself this time around.

While looking for a fourth straight road win over the Pistons, Miami will try for an eighth consecutive victory overall as it begins a four-game trip Friday night.

Despite trailing by seven heading into the fourth quarter Tuesday, the Heat (38-14) extended their winning streak by beating Indiana 117-112 as James had 41 points, a season high-tying 13 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and a block.

"I'll tell you what, he's playing MVP-like basketball on both ends of the court," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He had a motor tonight that did not fatigue. It was amazing."

James - the only active player averaging at least 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists - registered 39, eight and nine, respectively, in an 88-87 win Jan. 28 versus Detroit while Wade (wrist) and Bosh (ankle) were held out.

Wade had 17 points and seven assists while Bosh contributed 19 points and seven rebounds against the Pacers. Wade, though, isn't concerned with individual accolades.

"You don't have to be awesome every night," he said. "You have to find a way to help your ballclub win and we were able to do that."

Miami has taken seven of eight from Detroit - including three straight at the Palace of Auburn Hills by an average of 16.3 points.

The Pistons (20-33), meanwhile, enter this contest having won three of four and after extending host Cleveland's NBA record skid to 26 with a 103-94 victory on Wednesday.

"You don't want to be the team that loses to them," said Pistons guard Tracy McGrady. "(ESPN analyst) Tim Legler, we heard you. You gave us some bulletin board material. We used that."

Detroit is currently in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, but just 3 1/2 games behind Indiana for the eighth and final playoff spot.

"We're working so hard to get as many wins as we possibly can. (The game against Cleveland) happened to be the next game in the schedule and the next one is equally important now," Pistons coach John Kuester said.

Rodney Stuckey scored 22 points off the bench in his second game back after missing five with a shoulder contusion. Stuckey, who leads the team with 15.3 points per game, has scored at least 18 in three of his last four home meetings with Miami.

Detroit's recent success comes in part from a solid defense that's allowed 88.5 points over its last four games. The Pistons, however, could have trouble slowing down the Heat, who are averaging 107.0 points in their last three road contests.

Detroit is 1-19 in regulation when giving up at least 100 points.

The Pistons' Richard Hamilton was held out Wednesday for the second consecutive game with a sore groin and his status for this game is unknown. Since joining Detroit in 2002-03, he's averaged 17.3 points in 12 career home games against the Heat.

Heat beat Pistons 106-92; Miami alone atop East

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) LeBron James took a heckler to task. Dwyane Wade amazed a more famous fan.

All in a night's work for the Miami Heat, who are now alone atop the Eastern Conference.

James had 16 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, and Wade scored 24 points to lead the Heat to their eighth straight victory, 106-92 over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night. Miami entered the game tied atop the conference with Boston, which had the night off and hosts the Heat on Sunday.

James took a moment early on to ask a heckler to lay off his family. A fan who said he was seated near the heckler said James was being taunted when he told the fan he could say whatever he wanted about the Miami star, but: "Don't say anything about my family - be respectful or we're going to have a problem."

The witness said James' comments included an expletive.

Afterward, James shrugged off the exchange.

"Guys get out of control, at times," he said. "I understand they are very passionate, but you need to know where to draw the line. We're all human. I don't care if you say anything about the game of basketball, or something to me, just don't be disrespectful."

Wade, meanwhile, was busy impressing another member of the audience seated on the other side of the court. Aretha Franklin was on hand for the game in what was believed to be one of her first public appearances since undergoing surgery Dec. 2 for an undisclosed ailment.

King James put on a good show for the Queen of Soul, but at halftime, Franklin seemed more impressed with his teammate.

"Dwyane Wade is on tonight," she said.

Wade said he had his picture taken with Franklin at halftime.

"She's a legend," he said. "We're just glad she was able to come out here and support the Pistons, and support the Heat some as well."

Wade threw down an impressive alley-oop dunk from James in the first quarter to give his team a 16-7 lead. Although the Pistons (20-34) trailed by only four after that quarter, Miami broke the game open with a 12-2 run to start the second.

Chris Bosh had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Miami, which had six players in double figures, including all five starters. Reserves Mike Miller and Eddie House made 3-pointers during the run to start the second quarter, which Wade capped with a bank shot for a 37-23 lead.

Miami (39-14) later went on a 21-5 run to make it 64-41. The Heat led 64-43 at halftime and weren't seriously threatened after that.

It was a disappointing performance for Detroit, which lost by only a point in Miami on Jan. 28.

"I know this sounds crazy but in the first half I thought we were playing hard," Detroit coach John Kuester said. "I walked in at halftime, and I know we were down by 20 but I looked around it, and you've been in this business long enough, you know when you're down 20 and guys just don't want to play. These guys played hard."

Austin Daye scored 18 points for Detroit.

Before the game, representatives for Pistons owner Karen Davidson and investor Tom Gores acknowledged that Gores is negotiating to try to buy the team. If he does take control, he'll have a challenge on his hands rebuilding the Pistons, who never led against Miami. The Heat aren't known for their depth, but their starting five outscored Detroit's 77-41.

"They're good," Detroit big man Greg Monroe said. "They're a defensive team, they're a good all-around team, on both sides of the court they're a good team. They came out and they wanted it more than us tonight."

Miller finished with 16 points for Miami, and Mario Chalmers and Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 10 points each.

Ben Gordon scored 16 points for the Pistons, and Tayshaun Prince - the only Detroit starter in double figures - added 11.

THE FACTS: The Miami Heat tuned up for their road showdown with Boston on Sunday by romping past the Detroit Pistons Friday night, 106-92.

Dwyane Wade had 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and LeBron James added 16 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds as Miami won its eighth straight.

QUOTABLE: "It just shows where we've come so far, since November when we were 9-8. To be able to put this record together, as we've been doing the past few months, it just shows the commitment we have. We know it's a big game for us, going to Boston. They beat us twice and it's a team we're trying to catch."

THE STAT: 77-41. The Pistons' starting unit was no match for Miami's lineup, getting outscored by 36 points. All five of Miami's starters reached double figures, while Detroit's first five had just one double-digit scorer - forward Tayshaun Prince with 11. Starting guards Rodney Stuckey and Tracy McGrady combined to shoot 6-for-18 with six turnovers.

TURNING POINT: Miami got its long-range game going early in the second quarter to take command. The Heat opened the quarter with a 12-2 run that included 3-pointers from reserves Mike Miller and Eddie House to gain a 37-23 lead. Wade added four points during the outburst while the Pistons missed four 3-pointers during the first 1:54 of the quarter.

QUOTABLE II: "We all know those guys and Boston, those two teams in the Eastern Conference, if they put their mind to it and put their foot on the gas game in and game out, they'll perform like they did tonight. That's what you saw. Ever since they got in that groove, they walk out with that swagger that 'Hey, we're going to go out here and get it done.'"

HOT: Wade kept getting to the rim and the Pistons couldn't stop him, as he scored six first-half layups while racking up 16 points. He led the Heat in scoring for the 26th time, one more than James.

NOT: McGrady has scored in single digits three consecutive games. His five turnovers Friday were one shy of his season high.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Mike Miller is fulfilling his role as a dangerous sixth man. He scored 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting and chipped in two assists. Miller nudged his season scoring average to 6.3 after a slow start.

INSIDE THE ARENA: The Heat brought out a couple of big celebrities. Civil rights activist Jesse Jackson sat courtside next to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, who has been battling health problems this winter. Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year, sat next to the Miami bench.

ROOKIE WATCH: Pistons forward/center Greg Monroe was held to eight points and three rebounds while counterpart Chris Bosh had 17 points and 10 rebounds. That was Monroe's lowest rebounding total since he grabbed four against Orlando Jan. 24.

NOTABLE: James admonished a fan in the first row who made a disparaging remark about his mother. "Fans can say what they want to say but you've got to draw the line at some point," he said. ... Miami recorded its 900th victory in franchise history, ... Pistons guard Richard Hamilton did not dress for the third straight game with a sore groin. ... The Pistons missed eight layups and eight 3-point attempts in the first half. ... The Heat play three more road games before the All-Star break.
