Injuries to a pair of key players might impede the Minnesota Timberwolves' latest attempt at making progress.

Coming off a rare road victory, the visiting Timberwolves could be without two starters Tuesday night when they try to avoid a 14th consecutive loss to the Houston Rockets, who are looking for a fourth straight win.

Minnesota (12-39) shot 50 percent in the second half to improve to 3-23 on the road with a 104-92 victory at New Orleans on Monday.

However, the Timberwolves could be without second-leading scorer Michael Beasley (19.9 points per game) after he needed to be helped off because of a left leg injury and center Darko Milicic strained his left hip flexor Monday.

"It was unfortunate we lost Darko and Michael," Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis said.

The Timberwolves already have been without guard Luke Ridnour four straight games due to personal matters and swingman Martell Webster two because of back spasms. It's uncertain if either will return Tuesday.

Even at full strength the Timberwolves were likely to be in for a major challenge trying to beat Houston (25-28) for the first time since Jan. 7, 2007. Minnesota's 13-game skid against the Rockets is tied for the club's third-longest current losing streak to any opponent.

Minnesota is 8-60 away from home since last posting consecutive road victories April 7-8, 2009.

The Timberwolves have averaged 88.3 points during an eight-game road skid at Houston dating to an 82-79 win April 12, 2006.

Houston has averaged 124.5 points in two games against the Minnesota this season, including a 120-94 home victory Nov. 7.

Minnesota All-Star Kevin Love had 16 points with 16 rebounds in that contest, but has been limited to 11.5 points in four career games at Houston.

If Beasley and Milicic are out, the Rockets are likely to direct their attention at stopping Love, who had 27 points and 17 rebounds Monday. Those injuries could mean more time for reserves Nikola Pekovic and Anthony Tolliver, who each scored 12 points against the Hornets.

"It shows people, I guess, the potential that we have," Tolliver said. "It's just that we haven't put it together."

Houston has been able to put things together of late.

Kevin Martin scored 37 points and Luis Scola added 25 as the Rockets held Denver to 16 third-quarter points and overcame 50 from Carmelo Anthony in Monday's 108-103 road win.

"We played a great game as a team," said Martin, who added a season-high seven assists. "Outside of Carmelo, didn't nobody really do anything."

After falling 114-106 in overtime to the Lakers last Tuesday, the Rockets have won the last three by a combined eight points.

Averaging 30.0 points the last four games, Martin scored 34 in a 129-125 win at Minnesota on Jan. 24.

The Rockets could have guard Aaron Brooks back after he served a one-game suspension for leaving the court in the fourth quarter of the team's win over Memphis on Saturday.

Averaging 12.2 points and 4.1 assists in 28 games, Brooks missed 24 games with a sprained ankle and has been frustrated about his diminished role.

Love sets team double-double record in Wolves' win

HOUSTON (AP) Kevin Love was a little annoyed when he glanced at the scoreboard in the second half of Tuesday's game in Houston and realized he was still short of his usual double-double.

He finished with a big fourth quarter to set a Minnesota record with his 38th consecutive double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in the Timberwolves' 112-108 win over the Rockets.

"I'm not going to lie to you," Love said. "In this one, I was aware, because when you look straight ahead, I kept looking up and trying to get the score. I knew if I had the time, eventually, I was going to get it. It wasn't bugging me too much."

Love passed Kevin Garnett (2006) for the team's double-double record. Love's streak is now the longest since Moses Malone had 44 in a row during the 1982-83 season with Philadelphia. Utah's John Stockton also had a 37-game streak of double-doubles in 1989.

"There are nights where it's bittersweet," Love said. "Tonight, it was more sweet than anything, because we got the win and got it on the road."

Wayne Ellington added 18 points for the Timberwolves, who snapped a 13-game losing streak to the Rockets dating to January 2007. Minnesota played without injured starters F Michael Beasley (sprained left ankle) and C Darko Milicic (strained left hip flexor). Starting guard Luke Ridnour was also out for personal reasons.

"We were all just picking up for each other," said Ellington, who played 25 minutes off the bench. "We've got guys down, guys injured, guys out for personal reasons. We were really trying to pick each other up and do everything as a unit, and that ended up paying off for us."

Kevin Martin and Courtney Lee scored 23 points apiece for the Rockets. Houston was outrebounded 51-31, its largest deficit this season.

"We came out very complacent and we paid for it," Martin said.

Neither team led by more than six, and Ellington's jumper with 2:21 left put Minnesota ahead 105-104. Chuck Hayes missed two free throws with 1:09 to go, and the Timberwolves rebounded.

Ellington swished a 3 from the wing with 54 seconds left, and the entire Minnesota bench jumped as the Rockets called timeout. Martin sank four free throws in the last minute, but Love swished a straight-on 3 with 36 seconds to go.

"Those 3s were huge shots for us," Minnesota coach Kurt Rambis said. "I didn't necessarily call for those shots, but they both got good looks and made them."

The Rockets got the ball back with 17 seconds remaining. Lee missed a baseline jumper, Love rebounded and made a free throw with 5 seconds left for the winning margin.

"Sometimes you just say, the other team played better," Houston coach Rick Adelman said. "They made big shots when they had to. They played better."

The teams were tied at 19-all when Aaron Brooks entered with 3:08 left in the first quarter. Brooks apologized to general manager Daryl Morey and Adelman for leaving the court in the fourth quarter of Saturday night's win over Memphis because he was frustrated with his playing time. The team suspended him for Monday's win in Denver.

Houston went 4 for 8 from 3-point range in the quarter and led 29-27. Love grabbed four of Minnesota's 15 rebounds in the quarter.

The Rockets missed their first six 3-point attempts in the second quarter, and the Timberwolves moved ahead with a lineup of mostly reserves.

Wesley Johnson sank a 3-pointer in the last minute of the half to put the Wolves up 56-53 at the break.

Martin swished his second 3-pointer midway through the third quarter to put Houston up 70-66. The Rockets' leading scorer has hit multiple 3s in 12 consecutive games.

Love pulled down his 10th rebound with about five minutes left in the third, but came out for a rest with 3:26 left, stuck on nine points.

Both teams shot well in the third quarter, and Houston took a 85-83 lead to the fourth.

Love returned with 9:22 left. He missed two shots, and the Rockets took a 95-94 lead. Love tipped in Ellington's miss with 5:36 left to reach 11 points and the double-double.

NOTES: Rambis said he couldn't estimate how many games Beasley and Milicic would miss. "I don't know of any timetable," he said. ... Martin passed 400 free throws made this season. He's within reach of Moses Malone's franchise record (630), set in 1981-82. ... Scola has played in 300 consecutive regular-season games.

Timberwolves-Rockets Notebook

THE FACTS: Kevin Love got the double-double he needed, and the short-handed Minnesota Timberwolves earned the road win they wanted.

Love scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, setting the Wolves' franchise record for most consecutive doubles at 38, to lead Minnesota (13-39) to a 112-108 victory over Houston on Tuesday at Toyota Center. Love's double-double streak stands as the longest in the NBA since Moses Malone posted 44 straight double-doubles as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers during the 1982-83 season.

The Wolves shot 51.1 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from behind the arc as it snapped a 13-game losing streak to the Rockets (25-29), who received 23 points each from guards Kevin Martin and Courtney Lee.

QUOTABLE: "It was more sweet than anything because we got a win, and we got it on the road. ... I was in great company with players like Kevin Garnett, the most storied guy in the franchise. I didn't know [the record] stood for so long until they told me the past couple of days."

THE STAT: Minnesota's 51-31 edge on the boards (15-9 offensive) in Tuesday's game helped propel the Wolves to their first consecutive road victories since April 2009. Minnesota had dropped 60 of its last 68 road games prior to Tuesday.

TURNING POINT: Minnesota led 105-104 with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter when Wayne Ellington buried a clutch 3-pointer to give the Wolves' breathing room. After Martin sank a pair of free throws on Houston's next possession, Love answered with a 3-pointer from near the top of the key that pushed the Wolves' advantage to 111-106 with 35 seconds remaining.

QUOTABLE II: "Kevin is a very good 3-point shooter, and he finally got a good look. Wayne is very good at creating a good look. ... I didn't necessarily call for those shots, but they both got good looks and made them."

HOT: Lee delivered his best offensive performance of the season, coming off the bench to score a season-high 23 points on 9-for-15 shooting.

NOT: Houston's Aaron Brooks struggled mightily in his return from a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. In 19-plus minutes of action, he shot 1-for-8 from the field, including 0-for-5 from behind the arc, and dished out only one assist.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Rockets forward Luis Scola was not much of a factor on the boards, grabbing only two rebounds, but he partially made up for that dip in production with a career-best seven-assist outing. Scola has averaged 22.1 points on 55 percent (66-for-120) shooting over his last seven games.

BAD MOVE: Minnesota's Jonny Flynn and Sebastian Telfair picked up respective technical fouls during the final seven minutes of regulation for arguing with the officials, despite the fact that both calls favored the Wolves. The young duo temporarily let their emotions consume them during a hotly contested game, giving the Rockets two unearned points.

ROOKIE WATCH: Minnesota forward Wes Johnson, starting in place of the injured Michael Beasley, scored 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting, pulled down six rebounds and blocked a career-high four shots.

NOTABLE: The Wolves played without starters Beasley (reaggravated left ankle sprain), Darko Milicic (strained left hip flexor) and Luke Ridnour (personal matter). ... Minnesota reserve guard/forward Martell Webster (back spasms) missed his third straight game, and Rambis said he and Ridnour are unlikely to join the team during their current road trip. ... Houston's last loss to the Wolves came on Jan. 7, 2007. ... The Rockets fell to 3-10 at home this season when allowing more than 100 points. ... Houston center Chuck Hayes has scored in double figures in a career-high four consecutive games and has posted three double-doubles in his last four games. ... Ellington (18 points) and Flynn (15 points) set season highs in scoring. ... Minnesota won for just the third time this season when trailing after three quarters.
