Pacers-76ers Preview

While the Philadelphia 76ers have struggled for victories on the road this season, winning at home has been a lot easier.

That trend might continue with the Indiana Pacers visiting the Wells Fargo Center, especially if Andre Iguodala returns from injury.

The 76ers will attempt to win their third straight at home by sending the Pacers to a 10th consecutive road defeat Tuesday night.

Philadelphia's 112-109 overtime loss to Detroit on Saturday night was its third straight away from home and 16th in 21 road games this season. However, the 76ers (15-22) now play three straight at home, where they've won nine of 11.

They'll also get to open that stay with a matchup against the Pacers (14-20), losers in 10 of 13.

Philadelphia might get Iguodala back from a sore Achilles' tendon for this game after he missed the last seven. Should he return Tuesday, it will be to an improved offensive team.

The 76ers have averaged 103.5 points over their last six games after averaging 87.3 in their previous six.

Point guard Jrue Holiday isn't concerned about incorporating Iguodala, the team's third-leading scorer (14.2 ppg), into the offense.

"We're definitely starting to feel each other right now and we have a lot of confidence," he said. "(Andre) is definitely one of the players who knows how to go with the flow."

Iguodala's replacement in the starting lineup, Andres Nocioni, has averaged 12.3 points in his last six games - nearly double the 6.8 per game he was contributing before that stretch.

Holiday has averaged 20.1 points over the last eight games, and No. 2 overall draft pick Evan Turner has chipped in a couple of strong performances.

Turner had a team-best 19 points Saturday and scored a career-high 23 in a win at Phoenix on Dec. 29 after averaging 6.3 points in his first 29 games.

Turner had one of his better early season performances at home against the Pacers on Nov. 3, scoring 12 points in a 101-75 rout. Elton Brand led the way with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Indiana shot what remains a season-worst 31.5 percent in that meeting while having its three-game win streak over Philadelphia snapped. Danny Granger missed 12 of 14 shots while scoring a season-low seven points - the only time he hasn't had at least 20 in his last five games versus the 76ers.

The Pacers' leading scorer had 22 points in a 99-86 home win over the 76ers on Oct. 30.

Granger failed to top 16 points for the second consecutive game Saturday night as Indiana tied a season high with its third straight defeat overall, 108-93 to Atlanta.

That was the Pacers' ninth consecutive road loss, dating to a win at Sacramento on Nov. 30, and five of the last six were decided by double digits. They last dropped 10 straight road games Jan. 9-Feb. 18, 2009.

Granger, Collison lead Pacers past 76ers

PHILADELPHIA (AP) The visiting locker room was boisterous and loud following the game.

And why not?

For the first time since Nov. 30, the Indiana Pacers were able to celebrate a road victory.

Danny Granger scored 27 points, Darren Collison added 21 points and 13 assists, and the Pacers snapped a nine-game road losing streak with a 111-103 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night.

Indiana hadn't won a road game since a 107-98 victory at Sacramento on Nov. 30.

"It was a breath of fresh air for us, particularly on the road," Granger said. "We shot the ball well and moved the ball well. It was a great win for us."

Mike Dunleavy contributed 20 points while Tyler Hansbrough had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Pacers, who had dropped three straight and 10 of 13.

"It was really a terrific win," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "We played like we practiced. We made big shots when we needed to make them."

Jrue Holiday led the Sixers with 19 points and Elton Brand added 18. Marreese Speights and Evan Turner each had 14, while Jodie Meeks had 13, and Thaddeus Young and Lou Williams 12 apiece.

"We were just flat," Philadelphia coach Doug Collins said. "We had zero, zero energy and we got so far behind."

Andre Iguodala returned to the Philadelphia starting lineup after missing the previous seven games with tendinitis in his right Achilles', but he was largely ineffective and didn't seem to have the same explosiveness to the basket. Iguodala shot 0 for 7 and finished with one point, seven assists and four rebounds.

It was Iguodala's lowest point total since scoring one point at Houston on Dec. 4, 2004, his rookie season.

"I thought he was rusty," Collins said.

Collison snapped a tie game with a short jumper in the lane, pushing the Pacers to a 101-99 lead. After Williams missed a 3-pointer for Philadelphia, Roy Hibbert extended the Pacers' advantage to 103-99 with an 8-foot jump hook as the shot clock expired and 1:24 was left in regulation.

"Hibbert made a big shot," O'Brien said.

The Sixers previously led 94-92 after Meeks connected on a long 3-pointer. Indiana came right back with five straight points - a 3-pointer by Granger and a jumper by Brandon Rush - to go ahead 97-94 with 3:28 remaining.

Holiday then tied the game again at 97 with a 3-pointer.

There were many empty areas in the lower bowl of the arena thanks to a pending snowstorm which developed right before tip-off. But the estimated crowd of about 5,000 was treated to a game that featured numerous lead changes in the fourth quarter.

Dunleavy scored 15 points in the first quarter and had 18 by halftime as the Pacers built a 57-49 advantage. Indiana shot 52 percent from the field and led by eight despite not attempting one free throw.

Notes: Collison had eight assists at halftime for the Pacers. Sixers C Spencer Hawes was whistled for a technical foul with 10:43 left in the third. Holiday added eight assists and seven rebounds.

THE FACTS: The Indiana Pacers won a road game for the first time since Nov. 30 with a 111-103 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. Five Pacers scored in double figures led by Danny Granger's 27. Darren Collison had 21 points and 13 assists -- with just one turnover -- and Mike Dunleavy scored 20 points. Jrue Holiday paced the Sixers with 19 points while Elton Brand had 18 points. The Pacers built a 16-point lead, 67-51, in the third quarter and then held on for the much-needed road win by shooting 51 percent from the field, including 8-for-16 from 3-point territory. Indiana had dropped nine in a row on the road since beating Sacramento 107-98 on Nov. 30.

QUOTABLE: "We've been really working hard, working at it, studying film. It feels good to get a win out of it."

THE STAT: The Pacers had 29 assists with Collison racking up 13 by himself.

TURNING POINT: The Pacers closed the game on a 12-4 run by making clutch shots and knocking down free throws.

HOT: Dunleavy had 18 points at halftime, including four 3-pointers. He shot 7-for-12, finished 8-for-16 overall and kept up the trend by always playing well in Philadelphia.

NOT: Andre Iguodala made his return to the Sixers lineup after missing the past seven games with tendinitis in his right Achilles. Iguodala didn't look sharp and wound up with just one point, seven assists and four rebounds. It was Iguodala's lowest point total since his rookie season when he had one at Houston on Dec. 4, 2004.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: It's just a matter of time before Holiday registers a triple-double for the Sixers. He finished with 19 points, eight assists and seven rebounds and looked poised the whole game. The second-year point guard just continues to improve every game.

INSIDE THE ARENA: There were pockets of empty seats throughout the Wells Fargo Center, which was no surprise considering the snow falling outside the arena. But the fans who did arrive were into the game.

GOOD MOVE: The Pacers kept going to Roy Hibbert in the low post. While Hibbert missed some easy shots, those were good shots.

BAD MOVE: Collins told his team at shootaround to focus on Dunleavy at the start of the game. His players didn't respond to the warning, as Dunleavy hit his first four shots and had 18 points alone in the first half. This is a case where the players have to take the blame. The coaches did their job.

ROOKIE WATCH: Evan Turner, the Sixers' No. 2 overall pick from Ohio State, played a very spirited game with 12 points and five rebounds. More than that, he was active on defense. That's what the coaching staff has been preaching all season.

NOTABLE: Indiana shot just one free throw through the third. Very rarely does a team go three quarters and attempt just one free throw. The Pacers did finish 11-for-11 from the foul line with some late attempts.
