The success the Miami Heat enjoyed at the end of 2010 has carried over into the new year.

Coming off their 11th straight road win, the surging Heat return home looking to extend their overall winning streak to seven games Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Miami coach Erik Spoelstra had concerns his club might become complacent during its current run. The Heat almost proved him right after they trailed by seven points in the second quarter before taking over en route to a 96-82 win at Charlotte on Monday.

The Heat (27-9) have won 18 of 19, but still trail Boston by one-half game for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

LeBron James matched a season high with 38 points while Dwyane Wade added 31 with 11 rebounds as the Heat shot 48.7 percent and outscored the Bobcats 73-54 after the first quarter.

It was the first time the superstars each topped 30 points in the same game this season.

"I think we do a good job of playing off each other," said Wade, averaging 35.3 points on 54.4 percent shooting the last four games. "This is what we envisioned and it's starting to come true."

While Wade (24.7 points per game) and James (24.8 ppg) have paced the Heat offensively, Miami collectively has held its opponents to 89.8 points per contest over the last 19 games.

"We're having a blast," James said. "We're having a good time. We're playing good basketball."

Miami held the Bucks (13-18) to one of their lowest-scoring efforts this season in an 88-78 win at Milwaukee on Dec. 6. Wade, who starred at nearby Marquette, had 25 points with 14 rebounds.

Though Miami will try for a third straight win overall against the Bucks, it has dropped two straight and four of six at home to Milwaukee.

The Bucks are 5-11 on the road, but two of those wins have come in their last three away from the Bradley Center.

Milwaukee, however, avoided a third straight overall loss with a 99-87 New Year's Day home win over a Dallas team without injured star Dirk Nowitzki.

After shooting 34.6 percent in losses to Atlanta and Chicago, the Bucks shot 49.4 percent and scored its most points in eight games against the Mavericks.

"In 2011 we're doing alright right now," forward Corey Maggette told the Bucks' official website. "Hopefully we can keep going, we have a few tough games ahead of us. Hopefully we play hard and shoot the ball well."

Five-foot-5 veteran Earl Boykins returned after a one-game suspension to score a season-high 26 points. The 34-year-old Boykins has averaged 20.0 points on 30-of-56 shooting the last four games while star guard Brandon Jennings remains out after undergoing surgery for a stress fracture in his left foot Dec. 20.

"Earl's been coming in and putting up tremendous numbers for this team and really holding the fort down, because our star point guard is out," said Maggette, who had 20 points against the Heat last month. "Earl is doing a terrific job, just coming in and holding us afloat."

Former Miami Hurricane John Salmons, who scored 21 against the Mavericks, has averaged 21.3 points in his last three games at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Wade gets 34, Heat pull away to beat Bucks 101-89

MIAMI (AP) Throughout their sizzling turnaround of the past few weeks, the Miami Heat have made the game look absolutely easy at times.

This one was different.

And that thrilled Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

Dwyane Wade scored 34 points, LeBron James added 25 points and nine assists, and the Heat pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 101-89 on Tuesday night for their 19th win in 20 games. An 18-6 run over an 8-minute span got the late-game push going, and a 13-0 late burst sealed it for Miami.

"The players probably enjoyed some other games more," Spoelstra said. "But I think this was an important game. That's a very physical team. They're a very good defensive team. A lot of times when you play against them, it's a grind-out game, and we had to play a different kind of game tonight, have some mental toughness and resiliency when things weren't necessarily going our way."

Chris Bosh finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Heat, who trailed most of the third quarter before getting rolling. It was Miami's final home game for two weeks; the Heat will put their 11-game road winning streak on the line when they visit Milwaukee on Friday.

"We see why this team has beaten some very good teams," Wade said.

John Salmons scored 18 points for Milwaukee, which got 16 from Andrew Bogut and 14 from former Heat guard Keyon Dooling. The Bucks were outrebounded 47-34.

"When we were trying to keep contact with them in the second half it got away from us," Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. "We had a couple of missed layups, a couple of open jumpers. They took control of the game and we weren't able to get back into it."

There were some plays the Bucks will regret - fouling Wade twice on 3-point tries in the fourth, most notably - but the game seemed to change on a strange series late in the third.

Skiles got his second technical while trying to get a referee's attention to argue what he thought was a shot-clock violation on Miami and appeared to accidentally collide with Heat guard Carlos Arroyo. Because it was not considered unsportsmanlike, Skiles was not ejected. But the damage was done: James Jones made a 3-pointer 10 seconds after the call, the first salvo in Miami's closing burst.

"A rule is a rule," Bogut said. "But there was a lot of 50-50 plays like that that didn't go our way. ... It was a huge call, a huge momentum swing in the game."

Skiles said he thought referees made the correct call.

"I would expect that call in return," Skiles said.

Something about playing good teams on the road has brought out the best in the Bucks so far this season, a trend that continued at Miami.

Milwaukee came into the game only 5-11 away from home, the 19th-best road mark in the 30-team NBA. But some of the wins - over the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas and Atlanta, for example - and even an overtime loss in Boston in early November have suggested the Bucks are capable of more.

It's a lesson the Heat learned in this one.

Up by 11 after Bosh made a jumper with 7:36 left in the first half and looking comfortable, the Heat quickly went cold, and Milwaukee took advantage. Miami shot 2 for 9 the rest of the quarter, with five turnovers, and the Bucks outscored Miami 23-8 - 14 of those points coming from the foul line - to close the period with a 51-47 lead.

"We give a lot of credit to that team," James said. "We know mentally and physically we have to be in-tune to the ballgame ... because a Scott Skiles team always plays hard."

Miami's drought without a field goal lasted nearly 6 minutes before James made layups on consecutive fast-break possessions to tie it at 54 early in the third. Just about everything the Heat tried offensively was at the rim in the third: Of their eight field goals in the quarter, seven were inside of 15 feet, five were either layups or dunks.

Then Jones hit Miami's first 3-pointer of the game following the Skiles technical, and Mario Chalmers made two key 3s in the final minutes to help the Heat seal the outcome.

"We're going to have to win games in a lot of different ways," Bosh said. "Good teams find a way to win."

NOTES: Bogut airballed a free throw - badly, even by air ball standards - with 6:31 left. ... Rick Ross and Ciara were among those courtside. ... Wade added another entry to the highlight reel, coming down the lane - from out of the televised picture, even - for a one-handed hammer dunk on a putback that gave Miami a 56-55 lead in the third quarter. ... Injured Heat forward Udonis Haslem said before the game he's targeting a "late March" return. He ruptured a ligament in his left foot on Nov. 20. ... The Bucks play in Orlando on Wednesday.

THE FACTS: The Miami Heat trailed by four at halftime, but recovered to capture a 101-89 victory against the Milwaukee Bucks Tuesday at AmericanAirlines Arena. Guard Dwyane Wade scored a game-high 34 points while forward LeBron James added 25. The Bucks, who were without leading scorer Brandon Jennings, were led by John Salmons' 18 points and six assists. It was the third time in four games the Heat had to rally from a first-half deficit.

QUOTABLE: "We're going to have to win games in a lot of different ways. Good teams always find a way to win ... Just their style of play, they're going to make you play physically. Just to get this win, in this fashion, we really, really had to impose our will."

THE STAT: The Heat won the rebounding edge 47-34. After struggling defensively the first half, the Heat made an effort to limit the Bucks to one shot in the second half.

TURNING POINT: With the score tied at 68 late in the third quarter, Heat forward James Jones hit a 3-pointer from the corner to put Miami ahead for good. The Heat had missed their first six 3-point attempts before Jones' shot.

HOT: Wade, who shared the NBA Player of the Month award with James for December, continued his recent hot streak. He shot 10-for-19 from the field and made 13 of 15 free throws. With the Heat needing a late spark, he scored 17 fourth-quarter points.

NOT: Salmons led the Bucks with 18 points, but had difficulty producing offense while also having to slow Wade. He shot just 6-for-18 from the field. Reserve guard Earl Boykins, who has been a spark of late, also struggled. He made just 2 of 8 field goals.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: James continues to be a triple-double threat each night. He added nine assists and six rebounds to his totals. The fact he shot 8-for-15 should make fantasy owners plenty happy.

GOOD MOVE: The Heat seemed to let each of their stars dominate each quarter. Wade and James shared the honors in the first quarter while Bosh was big in the second. After James controlled the third quarter, Wade closed things with a big fourth quarter. The balance made it difficult for the Bucks to key on any player.

BAD MOVE: Bucks coach Scott Skiles was called for his second technical foul when he incidentally bumped into Carlos Arroyo while the ball was in play. Skiles was not ejected because his second technical was considered non-unsportsmanlike.

NOTABLE: Injured Heat forward Udonis Haslem says rehab is ahead of schedule. Haslem, who has a torn ligament in his left foot, moved into a walking boot Monday. He could return early as mid-April but says he'll only do it if it doesn't interfere with chemistry.
