The Miami Heat have been utterly dominant on the road in December, with only one of their nine consecutive wins coming by fewer than 10 points.

Their final test of the month might be their toughest.

The Houston Rockets have won five straight overall and eight in a row at the Toyota Center, leaving Miami with an imposing challenge Wednesday night as it looks to reach its third double-digit road winning streak in franchise history.

Miami (24-9) has started to look like the juggernaut many expected it to be, going 14-1 in December and outscoring its opponents by an average of 13.7 points.

A 106-98 victory over the New York Knicks on Tuesday was a rarity - just the third of those wins that wasn't by double digits. The Knicks cut a 22-point Heat lead to three with 2:02 left, but Dwyane Wade had seven of his season-high 40 points from there to help seal it.

"My teammates did a great job, especially in the fourth, of looking for me," said Wade, who scored 15 of Miami's 21 points in the last 8:30. "Guys did a great job getting me the ball in my sweet spots and I was able to attack."

It was the 16th straight time the Heat held an opponent under 100. With a win Wednesday, Miami will set a franchise record for victories in any month.

"It took a few weeks, maybe a month, maybe a month-plus for us to feel comfortable with one another on the court," said LeBron James, who finished two assists shy of his third triple-double in six games. "But we figured that out."

The Heat - and James in particular - have been at their best on the road. Miami won its nine road games in December by an average of 16.1 points, and a victory against the Rockets (15-15) would give the franchise its first 10-game winning streak away from home since an 11-game run Feb. 4-March 7, 1998.

James has been the catalyst. He's averaged 29.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 55.7 percent on the road this month.

The Heat won 115-106 in Houston last season behind 37 points from Wade, but the Toyota Center has rarely been one of James' favorite venues. He averaged 23.9 points and shot a woeful 37.3 percent - easily his worst in any arena - during seven road games against the Rockets while with Cleveland.

Houston has been just as tough to crack at home lately. After dropping four of five there to begin the season, the Rockets have won their last eight at the Toyota Center by an average of 10.8 points.

After beginning the season 0-5, Houston got back to .500 for the first time Monday, bouncing back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Washington, 100-93 - its fifth straight win.

"From where we started, we should feel good about our road back to .500," said Kevin Martin, who's averaged 24.9 points during the last eight home games. "It's not actually being at .500, because for the season, we have better goals than that. Our road back to .500, the way everybody is playing, that's what we should feel relieved about."

The Rockets are 14-8 when Martin scores 20 points and 1-7 when he scores 19 or fewer.

Martin, however, has never had much success against the Heat. His 12.4-point career average and 32.6 percent shooting versus Miami are his worst numbers against any opponent.

Wade scores 45 in Heat's 125-119 win over Rockets

HOUSTON (AP) Dwyane Wade left Houston with a bloody lip and a new season high in points.

Wade scored 45 points and the Miami Heat extended their road winning streak to 10 games with a 125-119 win over the Rockets on Wednesday.

The Heat set a franchise record with their 10th road win of the month and became the first team in NBA history to win 10 consecutive road games in a calendar month.

Houston point guard Aaron Brooks smacked Wade in the face on a fast break early in the fourth quarter, and Wade crumpled to the floor. He stayed face-down on the floor for several seconds, but eventually got up and walked to bench with a towel covering a cut on his upper lip.

He needed stitches to close the cut after the game, but didn't seem angry with Brooks.

"It doesn't feel that nice, but it's just a part of the game and hard fouls are a part of basketball," Wade said. "Unfortunately, I had to get stitches, but it's fine.

"You've got to know the player," Wade said, "and Aaron Brooks is a good guy and not a dirty player."

Brooks was whistled for a flagrant foul and hoped to avoid a fine from the NBA.

"Stuff like that happens," Brooks said. "I'm not a vicious player, I wasn't trying to hurt him. It was a bad attempt at the ball - but it was definitely an attempt at the ball.

"He's got a bloody lip, but that's basketball," Brooks said. "We all have bloody lips, at times."

Wade played the final 10 minutes with a bandage covering the cut, and it didn't faze him at all.

About two minutes after the hit, Wade drove into Brad Miller, hit an awkward layup and converted another three-point play to push the Heat's lead to 100-93.

"For the majority of athletes, when they get angry, they lose their focus, composure and poise," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said. "But he's one of the few that the exact opposite happens. He was angry after that hit, and he was bleeding. But you could see, after that point, an absolute laser focus and poise, and he didn't let his anger get the best of him."

Wade hit 17 of 24 shots, went 10 for 10 from the free-throw line and pulled down seven rebounds one night after scoring 40 points in a 106-98 win over the New York Knicks.

He reached 45 points for the eighth time, and hit 40 points on consecutive nights for the first time in his career.

LeBron James scored 20 points and had nine assists and Chris Bosh scored 21 points for the Heat, who set a franchise record with their 15th win in December.

The Heat have won 16 of their past 17 overall. The Rockets were the first opponent to reach 100 points in that span.

"We're just a different team now," James said. "We go out and understand that no matter what the course of the game may bring, we can always will ourselves to win, get enough stops, and make enough plays to win a basketball game."

Luis Scola scored 22 points, Kevin Martin had 21 and Brooks added 20 points and nine assists for the Rockets, who had an eight-game home winning streak snapped.

"We weren't as sharp as we wanted to be," Martin said. "But we got beat by five points by a pretty good team. It was a good test of where we're at right now and we are still confident."

Houston closed the deficit to four with about six minutes left, but Mario Chalmers made a 3 and James hit a pull-up jumper to extend the lead again.

Wade then swatted the ball away from Scola, and finished a fast break with a layup to reach 40 points for the second straight game. He slipped past Scola for another layup on the Heat's next trip, got fouled by Jordan Hill and hit the free throw for a 115-105 lead.

Joel Anthony clinched it for Miami with four free throws in the final 34 seconds.

Miami shot 58 percent from the field (43 of 74), but couldn't shake the Rockets, who scored 62 points in the first half, a season high for a Miami opponent.

"This was a tough game for us," Wade said. "We gave up 119 points, and that's not Miami ball. Houston played unbelievable."

Wade scored 13 points on 5-for-5 shooting in the quarter, and Miami led 35-28. James had only six points in the first quarter, but had six assists.

With James and Wade on the bench, Houston scored on its first four possessions of the second quarter to pull even at 37. Bosh scored the next five points to move Miami ahead again.

Brooks set a fast tempo and the Rockets scored 34 points in the second quarter to take a 62-59 lead to the break. Brooks had 12 points and five assists in the half, and Chuck Hayes added nine points with six rebounds.

Lowry and Martin opened the second half with 3-pointers to stretch Houston's lead to seven. The Rockets hit 7 of their first 11 shots out of halftime and hit 80 points with 5 1/2 minutes left in the third. The Heat came in giving up only 91 points per game.

James swished a pair of jumpers and James Jones hit a pull-up 3-pointer during a 14-4 Miami spurt and the Heat surged to an 88-84 lead. Miami hit 12 of 18 shots in the third quarter.

Notes: Wade has a steal in 11 consecutive games. ... Martin has scored at least 20 points in seven straight games. ... Hall of Fame center Hakeem Olajuwon, Houston Texans Pro Bowl receiver Andre Johnson and four-time All-Star outfielder Carl Crawford attended the game.

THE FACTS: Dwayne Wade scored a season-high 45 points, Chris Bosh put up 21 and LeBron James added 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds as the Miami Heat extended their road winning streak to 10 games with a 125-119 victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday at Toyota Center.

Miami (25-9), the league's top defensive team, allowed more than 100 points for the first time in 17 games. But the Heat made Houston work for its points, limiting the Rockets to 41.9 percent from the field.

Luis Scola led Houston with 22 points, while Aaron Brooks scored 20 and matched a season high with nine assists for the Rockets (15-16), who entered Wednesday winners of five straight overall eight consecutive home games.

THE STAT: The Heat are now 15-1 in December, marking a franchise record for wins in a month. Miami's 10-game road win streak is only the third double-digit run in franchise history. The Heat last won 10 straight on the road during an 11-game streak Feb. 4-March 7, 1998.

TURNING POINT: Houston trailed by 12 with 2:15 left before ripping off a 9-2 run that cut its deficit to 117-114 with less than a minute remaining. Houston might have been able to trim the Heat's lead even more after James missed an easy shot with 35 seconds left, but Joel Anthony grabbed the offensive board and sank two free throws to essentially seal the deal.

HOT: For the Heat, who wasn't? Every Miami player except Zydrunas Illgauskas (3-for-7), James Jones (1-for-3) and Juwan Howard (0-for-1) made at least half of his shots as the Heat connected on 58.1 percent of their attempts.

NOT: Although Bosh shot the ball well (8-for-14), he was hardly a force on the boards (only four rebounds) and committed five turnovers.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Wade posted his second consecutive and 30th career 40-point game Wednesday, shooting 17-for-24 from the floor and a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. Wade said he needed "a couple" of stitches after cutting cut his lip when Brooks committed a flagrant foul-1 on him with 9:58 left in the fourth quarter. But his performance after this incident should show fantasy owners that they have nothing to worry about.

INSIDE THE ARENA: A packed house greeted James with a chorus of boos during the pre-game introductions. Wade was also booed, but not nearly as heavily as James. Members of the crowd of 18,409 included NBA Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, Houston Astros gold-glove centerfielder Michael Bourn and Houston Texans All-Pro receiver Andre Johnson.

BAD MOVE: Kyle Lowry picked up two fouls in the same Miami possession, forcing coach Rick Adelman to insert Brooks into the game midway through the first quarter. Brooks took advantage of the early entry, scoring 12 points and dishing out five assists before Lowry took the court again. If Lowry continues to make mental errors, Brooks may return to the starting lineup sooner than Lowry would like.

NOTABLE: Miami allowed an opponent season high of 62 points in the first half. ... The Heat's 58.1 percent shooting effort is the best any opponent has shot against the Rockets this season. ... Miami improved to 9-5 this season against the Western Conference and 2-4 against the Southwest Division. ... The Heat are now 14-3 this season when they score 100 or more points. ... Houston fell to 3-14 this season when trailing after three quarters. ... The Rockets are now 7-2 at home this season when scoring 100 points or more.
