The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost nine of 11, and are coming off a 31-point thrashing.

The Golden State Warriors' last month somehow has been even worse.

A win at Minnesota in late November was the Warriors' only victory in their last 13 games. They'll try to snap out of that horrendous stretch Tuesday night at home while spoiling the likely season debuts of Jonny Flynn and Martell Webster with the Timberwolves.

Minnesota (6-18) had dropped eight of 10 heading into Chicago on Saturday, but the losses weren't particularly ugly. Only twice had the Timberwolves lost by more than 10 points, and those came against Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers.

There was nothing competitive about their performance against the Bulls. Minnesota turned the ball over 20 times and fell behind by 21 by halftime in a discouraging 113-82 loss.

"We're not mature enough a team defensively to have our defense lock a team like this down," coach Kurt Rambis said. "This is just one game, but we clearly didn't come out with the energy we had been playing with. The guys in there know it."

Golden State (8-16) has had a much more difficult time being competitive lately. The Warriors have been outscored by an average of 11.1 points in their last 13 games, picking up their 12th loss in that span Monday at Utah, 108-95.

"Our guys are giving it to me," coach Keith Smart said. "They're giving me what is necessary to get us moving in the right direction, to win. Now we just need to make sure we can stay together as a unit."

Golden State has played its last two games without Stephen Curry, who sprained his right ankle Wednesday at San Antonio - the fourth time he's seriously rolled it in the past two months.

Curry might be out for a while, which has to be a relief to the Timberwolves. They've lost their four meetings with the Warriors since Curry entered the league by an average of 16.5 points, including a 146-105 rout in their last trip to Oakland on Nov. 9, 2009.

Curry has averaged 23.5 points, 10.5 assists and 5.0 steals in the last two Golden State wins in the series.

The Timberwolves might want to focus their attention on Dorell Wright. Golden State's offseason acquisition had a career-high 30 points - hitting 9 of 12 3-pointers - in a 104-94 win at the Target Center on Nov. 27.

That was enough to impress Minnesota's Michael Beasley, who played with Wright the past two seasons in Miami.

"He just needed a shot," said Beasley, who had 28 points in the loss. "He just needed some minutes."

Beasley and Kevin Love - who has 20 points and 15 rebounds in six straight games, a first since Charles Barkley accomplished the feat in 1989-90 - should be getting some much-needed help Tuesday.

Flynn is expected to make his season debut after working his way back from July hip surgery with two games in the NBDL. Swingman Martell Webster also should make his first appearance in a Timberwolves uniform since being acquired from Portland in June. He had back surgery during training camp.

Flynn - picked one spot ahead of Curry in the 2009 draft - averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.3 turnovers last season against Golden State.

Williams, Ellis lead Warriors past Timberwolves

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Reggie Williams finally listened to his Golden State teammates' plea for him to be more aggressive.

With Stephen Curry sitting out a third straight game with an ankle injury, Williams started off slow but came on strong at the end, scoring 22 of his 26 points in the second half to help the Warriors snap a seven-game losing streak with a 108-99 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night.

A late-season addition from the NBA's Development League in 2009, Williams missed four of his first five shots before going 7 of 8 and making all four of his 3-pointers after halftime.

"Sometimes you have to stay on him because with Monta (Ellis), Steph, me and David (Lee), he probably thinks sometimes he doesn't have to be aggressive," said Dorel Wright, who had 12 points and five rebounds. "But he's starting to understand we need him. We need those 15 points or whatever he can give us. He's a shooter, that's what he does."

Ellis scored 34 points while David Lee had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors (9-16), who won for only the third time in their last 17 games.

Darko Milicic had a career-high 25 points and 11 rebounds for Minnesota (6-19), which shot well in the first half but struggled down the stretch, missing 15 of 22 shots from the floor.

"Our team needs to learn that if they don't play hard every night, we are not going to win," Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis said. "Particularly in the second half, we did not give a maximum effort. We gave them too many second chance opportunities and turned the ball over too many times."

Curry was on the bench and in street clothes for the third straight game after rolling his right ankle in a 111-94 loss to San Antonio on Dec. 8.

Williams, who scored a career-high 31 in the loss to the Spurs, picked up the slack.

He scored 10 points in the third quarter then added 12 in the fourth when the Warriors broke open a tight game and pulled away. It marked just the second time this season that Williams broke the 20-point barrier.

"Right now my job is just to try to step up and fill (Curry's) void and try to take care of business until he comes back," said Williams, who is averaging 22.5 points in his past four games. "Those guys encourage me to shoot. I just have to take it upon myself to be more aggressive when they ask me to."

Minnesota, which led by as much as 11 in the first half, was at 94-88 with five minutes left before a 9-2 run by Golden State sealed the win. Ellis had six points and Williams added three during the spurt, including a soaring one-handed dunk.

Ellis played all 48 minutes and went 13 of 24 while adding six assists for the Warriors, who have won five straight against the Timberwolves. Golden State also beat Minnesota earlier this year 104-94 on Nov. 27.

Kevin Love had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Minnesota. That snapped his stretch of 10 consecutive games with 15 or more rebounds, which was the longest streak in the NBA since Ben Wallace's 14-game run in 2003.

Michael Beasley added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Timberwolves before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Martell Webster had 17 points off the bench.

Minnesota led 17-15 early then went on an 8-0 run to close out the first quarter. Beasley and Milicic had eight points apiece for the Timberwolves, who held the Warriors without a basket over the final 5 1/2 minutes.

Webster, playing in his first game of the season after undergoing microdiscectomy surgery on Oct. 25 for recurring back pain, had seven points and Jonny Flynn, also making his season debut, added a 3-pointer as Minnesota pushed its lead to 45-34.

Wright, in a minor shooting slump, broke out of it quickly with 10 straight points as part of a 12-0 run to help the Warriors get close. After Wright's 3-pointer tied the game with 51 seconds left, Ellis hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give Golden State a 54-51 halftime lead.

Notes: Ellis was hit with a technical foul after arguing a double-dribble call by Joey Crawford with 3:45 left in the first quarter. It's Ellis' second technical in two games and third overall. ... Flynn missed the first 24 games after undergoing surgery on his left hip July 27. He recently completed a two-game stint in the Developmental League before being recalled by Minnesota on Sunday. Flynn finished with three points and four assists. ... Curry said he is hopeful of playing on Saturday when the Warriors travel to Portland.

THE FACTS: Monta Ellis scored 34 points, including 19 in the second quarter, and Reggie Williams added 26, all but four in the second half, as the Golden State Warriors won for the second time in 14 games, beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-99 Tuesday night. Darko Milicic scored a career-high 25 points for Minnesota, which nonetheless fell to 1-13 on the road.

QUOTABLE: "It's finally starting to sink in. It's important not just for him, but for his teammates to know, this kid can play, and he can score, when he's aggressive and people are believing in him. I think he is starting to understand that his teammates want him to do it because he can. They know his ability."

THE STAT: After opening up with an ice-cold 17-point first quarter, the Warriors -- who came in ranked 20th in the league in terms of field-goal percentage, at 44.8 percent -- shot 56.9 percent the rest of the way.

TURNING POINT: The Warriors led for the final 18 minutes, but the advantage wasn't secure until an 8-2 run midway through the fourth quarter -- capped by a streaking fast-break dunk from Williams -- which made it 100-88 with 3:45 to go.

HOT: Ellis wasn't perfect from the floor in the second quarter, missing five of 12 shots, but the Timberwolves were powerless to stop him as he racked up 19 points. Minnesota tried doubling him with a third man shading over in the lane as cover; Ellis simply scythed through the double-team and scored on the help defender. Then the Timberwolves put Luke Ridnour on him, so Ellis posted him up and casually dropped in spinning layups.

NOT: Kevin Love didn't have a terrible game, in terms of counting stats (13 points, 14 rebounds) but his 6-for-18 night didn't help Minnesota as it tried to hang onto an early 11-point lead. And he fell one board short of extending his streak of games with at least 15 rebounds, which ended at 10 straight.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: After sitting out 24 games recovering from back surgery, Martell Webster made some noise in his debut with the Timberwolves, scoring 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting with five rebounds -- and five turnovers -- in 26 minutes. Watch out for him as a waiver-wire pickup.

GOOD MOVE: With Ellis playing the entire game -- his fifth consecutive contest clocking 40-plus minutes -- Smart had to get creative to buy him some "rest" on the floor. So when Rambis brought Corey Brewer into the game during the third quarter to take over for the woefully overmatched Ridnour, Smart essentially removed Ellis from the game plan, having him stand in the corner as a decoy to catch his breath while Williams commenced taking advantage of Ridnour's porous defense.

NOTABLE: Jonny Flynn, who also hadn't played all year for Minnesota because of a bad hip, made his season debut with three points and four assists in 16:31. . . . This was Ellis' fifth 30-point game this season. . . . Golden State snapped a seven-game losing streak overall and five-game losing streak at home. . . . Despite the end of his streak, Love did record his 20th double-double of the year.
