The Phoenix Suns needed a miraculous finish to claim victory in the Memphis Grizzlies' last visit.

With the Suns rolling at home and the Grizzlies struggling on the road, this matchup could have far less drama.

Phoenix goes for its season-high fourth consecutive home win Wednesday night when it faces Memphis, which is looking to end a six-game road skid.

Trying to avoid consecutive home losses to the Grizzlies franchise for just the second time, Phoenix rallied for a 123-118 double-overtime victory on Nov. 5. Jason Richardson scored five of his 38 points in the final 1.1 seconds of regulation, including a tip-in at the buzzer after Memphis' Rudy Gay unintentionally made his second free throw to give the Suns possession with 0.4 left.

"That was just a crazy turnaround," Richardson said after the Suns avoided their first 0-3 start at home since 2005-06 and improved to 25-5 all-time when hosting the Grizzlies. "They thought they had a win. I guess the basketball gods were on our side."

Including last month's victory, Phoenix (11-10) has won six of seven at US Airways Center.

The Suns, though, return home following Tuesday's 106-99 loss at Portland. Phoenix held a nine-point lead in the opening minute of the final period, but was denied a season-high fourth straight win after allowing 37 fourth-quarter points.

"We struggled to score at times, and that was it," Steve Nash said after posting his seventh consecutive double-double with 24 points and 15 assists. "They did a better job than us defensively."

While the Suns look to regroup as they open a three-game homestand, the Grizzlies (8-14) are going for their first road win since Nov. 6. Memphis dropped its fourth straight overall and sixth in a row on the road Monday, 94-85 to Utah.

"They execute and that's what ground us up at the end," said coach Lionel Hollins, whose team is allowing 110.3 points per game on 49.7 percent shooting during its four-game skid.

Although the Grizzlies are one loss shy of their first 0-7 stretch away from home since an eight-game slide that ended in January 2009, the team has reason for optimism following Monday's defeat to the Northwest Division leaders and an 108-107 loss at Denver on Sunday when it rallied from 21 down.

"... I think right now we know that a year ago against both of these teams we played yesterday and tonight we had no chance to be in the game if we weren't even close in the first half and it was a blowout both games," center Marc Gasol said. "On the other hand, this year, in both games we battled back and played with physicality against both teams and that's what we're trying to do, be a little positive and get ready for the next one in Phoenix."

Still without starting center Robin Lopez (sprained ligaments, left knee), the Suns could have their hands full with Gasol and Zach Randolph, who combined to average 35.5 points and 24.5 boards per game in the teams' two matchups this season.

Randolph posted season highs with 23 points and 20 rebounds in a 109-99 home win over Phoenix on Nov. 8.

Suns forward Hakim Warrick, a former Grizzlies first-round pick, is averaging 15.5 points and 6.0 off the bench against his former team this season.

This is the final meeting between Phoenix and Memphis in 2010-11. The Grizzlies will try to win the season series for the first time since taking two of three in 2005-06.

Randolph helps Grizzlies rally past Suns

PHOENIX (AP) Zach Randolph just loves playing the Phoenix Suns.

Randolph scored a season-high 34 points, Rudy Gay had 22 and the Memphis Grizzlies rallied to beat Phoenix 104-98 in overtime Wednesday night.

Randolph made 15 of 19 shots from the field and also had 17 rebounds. The 6-foot-9 burly forward is averaging 23 points and 17 rebounds in three games against Phoenix this year, and 22.3 points and 14.4 boards in his last seven games against the Suns overall.

"Zach is a touch matchup, not only for us," Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry said. "He's good at angles and he has a soft touch. It's tough to defend him."

Mike Conley had 11 points and a career-high 14 assists for the Grizzlies, who picked up their first road win since Nov. 6 at Sacramento. They had dropped their previous six away from home.

Gay sent the game to overtime with a 3-pointer just before the regulation buzzer that tied it at 92. Gay's 22-footer from the left corner was his only 3-point attempt of the game.

"It was well-executed," Memphis coach Lionel Hollins said. "We got the guy we wanted and he hit the shot."

Randolph had the key basket in OT, making a turnaround bank shot to give Memphis a 98-96 lead with 2:30 left. Goran Dragic missed a 3-pointer on the other end and Gay hit two free throws to extend the lead to four.

After Steve Nash made a driving layup, Randolph connected on a jumper with 8.7 seconds left and O.J. Mayo hit two free throws to finish the scoring.

"Zach was vintage Zach tonight," Gay said. "He played great for us. We all know Zach can rebound and score, but the other things we've been working on with him and when we needed him to set a great screen he did it. That's a winner and that's what we want around here, winners."

Dragic led the Suns with 17 points. Hedo Turkoglu added 15 and Nash and Channing Frye had 11 apiece. But Nash also had eight turnovers.

Memphis carried a 78-64 lead into the fourth quarter but the Suns stormed back to tie it at 86 on Turkoglu's 3-pointer with 2:48 remaining. Turkoglu added a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 6.2 seconds left.

Conley and Frye each went 1 for 2 from the free-throw line before Gay came up with the big shot.

"We didn't fold, but we've got to learn how to win games," Randolph said. "We have to learn to sustain that lead to be a playoff team that we want to be."

Darrell Arthur finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Memphis, which shot 49 percent from the field. The Grizzlies also had 23 assists, compared to 16 for the Suns.

Grant Hill and Hakim Warrick had 10 points apiece for the Suns, who trailed 53-41 at halftime. Phoenix, which was coming off a 106-99 loss at Portland on Tuesday night, went 17 for 27 from the foul line.

"It was a tough loss," Hill said. "It would have been nice to get that win. The fourth quarter was unbelievable. The second unit was awesome, but I'm still in shock at what happened."

NOTES: The Suns and Grizzlies each had 47 rebounds. ... Memphis went 18 for 22 from the foul line.

THE FACTS: Rudy Gay nailed a 3-pointer from the left corner at the final buzzer of regulation, then his Memphis Grizzlies pounded the ball inside in overtime in pulling out a thriller 104-98 Wednesday night at the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns nearly had it won after Hedo Turkoglu stepped back behind the 3-point line and buried a high-arching 25-footer to give the Suns a 91-88 lead with 6.2 seconds left. After an exchange of fouls, the Suns' Channing Frye had a chance to put the game away, but he hit only one of two free throws. That made it 92-89 with 3.3 seconds left.

With 2.8 seconds left, the Grizzlies set a screen for Gay, who raced out from under the basket to the left corner and got away his big shot.

The Grizzlies (9-14) led most of the game until the Suns (11-11), using their reserves almost exclusively in the fourth quarter, put on a frantic rally that erased an 82-68 lead with 9:00 left.

For the Grizzlies, Zach Randolph scored a season-high 34, including a decisive 6-foot left hook that put the Grizzlies up 102-98 with 8.7 seconds left in overtime, and 17 boards. Gay added 22 points while Mike Conley had a career-high 14 assists. For the Suns, Goran Dragic and Turkoglu had 17 and 15 points, respectively, off the bench.

QUOTABLE: "This was maybe not a defining moment but a huge moment for our team. To come out of here with a loss would have been a huge mental blow."
-- Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, whose team had lost a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Grizzlies also had lost four straight, six in a row on the road. They'd also blown a game a month earlier in Phoenix when Gay failed to knock a free throw off the front of the rim with .4 seconds left, which gave the Suns the ball at midcourt and set up an improbable Suns' double-overtime win.

THE STAT: The Suns missed 10 of 27 free throws, including one at the end of regulation by Frye that could have sealed it.

TURNING POINT: Gay's 3-pointer at the buzzer saved the game for the Grizzlies.

QUOTABLE II: "Right now, we're searching. But I'm convinced that if we play with that kind of effort, we'll be a good team."

HOT: Randolph shot 15-for-19. "He's a tough matchup for us," Gentry said. "He's really good at angles, and he has such soft hands. Everybody else, we did a good job on."

NOT: The Suns' Jason Richardson had his second straight poor game. He shot 1-for-11, including 0-for-4 from long range, and scored four.

ROOKIE WATCH: The Grizzlies' Xavier Henry played 33 minutes, shot 4-for-11, scored eight and had just one turnover.

NOTABLE: The Suns lost the season series vs. the Grizzlies (2-1) for the first time since five seasons ago ('05-06). Both games in Suns-land went to overtime.
