The Orlando Magic have had their way with the Washington Wizards over the past few seasons, especially in the nation's capital.

Orlando looks for its seventh win in eight visits to Washington and tries to beat the Wizards for the 12th time in 15 meetings overall when the teams play for the second time this season Saturday night.

The Magic easily took the last two matchups with the Wizards in 2009-10 and came away with a 112-83 home win in the season opener for both teams Oct. 28, shooting 55.8 percent from the field. Orlando went ahead by 14 after the first quarter, led 58-34 at halftime and had a 35-point advantage in the fourth.

In the last two meetings last season, the Magic averaged 115.0 points and shot 54.8 percent - 58.3 from 3-point range.

Orlando (11-4) had another strong offensive performance Friday night, scoring 62 points in the first half en route to a 111-100 victory over Cleveland. The Magic shot 55.6 percent overall - going 14 for 31 from beyond the arc for their second-most 3s made of the season - to win for the sixth time in seven games.

All five starters scored in double figures, led by Dwight Howard's 23 points.

"Guys might have felt like there was a lid on the basket for a while this season, but it's coming off," said point guard Jameer Nelson, who hit nine of 13 shots and scored 20. "History doesn't lie. We've got good shooters and we've proved it in the past. It's coming around."

Coach Stan Van Gundy would like to see the Magic play better on the other end of the floor after they let the Cavaliers stay in it until the final minutes of the game.

"We were terrible defensively, absolutely terrible," Van Gundy said. "It's the same old thing with us right now. When the scoring is easy, we won't guard and that's why we can't put games away."

Washington (5-9) failed to win consecutive games for the first time this season with a 116-96 loss at Atlanta on Thanksgiving, getting outscored 28-18 in the first quarter. The Wizards, whose previous two contests went to overtime, have yet to beat an opponent with a winning record.

"The disappointing thing was our lack of competitiveness to start the game," coach Flip Saunders said. "I couldn't understand why. (We) basically had a day off, had an opportunity and just did not match their intensity. ... We have not competed against a good team yet."

Top overall pick John Wall missed his first seven attempts from the field, and Washington shot below 40.0 percent for the third time in five games.

"We get paid for this," said Wall, who shot 6 for 19 last month at Orlando in his NBA debut. "This is our job, this is our dream. This is what we want to do. So we need to start acting like it and take it more serious."

The Wizards fell to 0-7 on the road, but it's been a different story for them at home.

Washington is 5-2 at the Verizon Center and has won its last three there to match its longest home winning streak from last season. The Wizards haven't won four in a row on their own court since April 4-14, 2008.

Howard scores season-high 32, including winner

WASHINGTON(AP) Dwight Howard had a simple message for Jameer Nelson with the Orlando Magic trailing by a point in the final seconds against the Washington Wizards.

"Just throw it up, and I'll go get it," Howard told his teammate.

Howard made good on his promise, putting back Nelson's airball to give the Magic a 100-99 win Saturday night, the final basket among Howard's season-high 32 points. He also had 11 rebounds.

Nelson sent his shot high to get over the Wizards' shot-blocker JaVale McGee, who had come out to contest the jumper. The ball came down short of the rim, but Howard pulled in the rebound and then banked it in to give Orlando the lead with 4.3 seconds left.

"When he threw it up, I knew I didn't have a chance to come back down and try to go back up because they were going to foul right away," Howard said. "So I just tried to shoot it off the glass as quick as possible."

Gilbert Arenas had a chance for a game-winner of his own at the buzzer, but his floater hit the back of the rim and bounced away. Arenas scored a season-high 31 points, including Washington's final nine points over the final four minutes, but on the last shot Howard was once again right in the middle of the play.

"Once I saw Dwight step over, I floated it up a little bit, and it was a little too hard," Arenas said. "I felt it was going to go in."

Quentin Richardson scored 20 for the Magic, who have won seven of their last eight games in Washington.

"It was definitely a hard fought victory with a young team that played really well," Richardson said. "We just fought and fought."

Arenas had given Washington a 99-98 lead with 13.2 seconds to play with a jumper in the lane, a lead erased by Howard's late score.

"That's what they do," Arenas said. "If Jameer doesn't have a good shot, he's going to shoot it anyway just so Dwight can get that rebound."

Nick Young scored 21 points, and Andray Blatche scored 10 points and had 13 rebounds for the Wizards, who ended a three-game home winning streak despite nearly coming back after trailing by double digits.

Washington was playing without rookie guard John Wall, who missed the game with a bruised right knee. Wall, who leads the team in points (18.0 per game) and assists (9.1), had missed four straight games with a sprained left foot before playing in Washington's previous two contests.

In Wall's absence, Arenas and Young each carried the offense for stretches as Washington came back after trailing by double-digits.

Orlando led by as many as 14 in the first half and were up by 12 early in the third quarter when Washington started its comeback attempt, led by Arenas. The Wizards went on a 15-2 run, with nine of the points coming from Arenas, to take their first lead of the game 64-63 with five minutes left in the period. Young sparked another run for the Wizards, scoring 14 of Washington's first 15 points in the fourth quarter.

"Every big game or TV game, we always seem to get embarrassed," Young said. "Tonight we didn't want to do that in front of our fans."

Howard, however, made sure the Wizards' comeback attempt fell short.

"He was obviously tremendous tonight. I don't think there's anybody in the NBA playing better basketball than he is," Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy said. "We are only 16 games into the year now, but if you stopped it right now and he isn't the MVP right now, something is seriously wrong."

Notes: Wizards C Yi Jianlian (knee) missed his seventh straight game and F Al Thornton (ankle) his second. ... Saunders said F Josh Howard, who is recovering from knee surgery, is still weeks away from returning. ... Magic F Vince Carter missed his third straight game with a sprained left knee. ... Van Gundy was asked about Lakers coach Phil Jackson's qualified apology after a series of back-and-forth comments. Jackson initially commented about the possibility of Pat Riley replacing Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, calling it the "Van Gundy situation." Van Gundy said Jackson showed ignorance of his situation with the Heat, and Friday, Jackson apologized while saying it was unfortunate. Van Gundy was "defensive." "I'm not looking to get into any war of words with Phil Jackson," Van Gundy said. "He simply made a comment about my situation that he had no knowledge of. That's all I meant to say."

THE FACTS: Dwight Howard's put back of Jameer Nelson's miss with four seconds left gave the Orlando Magic a 100-99 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday night. Howard had a season high 32 points. The Magic improved to 12-4. Gilbert Arenas had a season-high 31 points despite missing 14 of his 23 field goals and five of his six 3-pointers. Nick Young had a season-high 21 points. Washington dropped to 5-10.

QUOTABLE: "There was never a doubt in that one, guys. We played that one exactly the way we wanted. Never a doubt. You'll hear coaches say that, but it couldn't be more true tonight. We absolutely stole a game."

THE STAT: 47-38. Washington dominated the boards, but Orlando was still able to prevail.

TURNING POINT: The lead changed on the last five scores, and it wasn't until Arenas missed a jumper as the horn sounded that the game was decided. The Magic led by 12 at halftime, and Arenas and Young combined for 41 of Washington's 56 points in the second half.

QUOTABLE II: "I think we won the game. That's all that matters -- no matter how ugly or pretty it was. We won the game. I don't think you can steal wins. You just play to the end."

HOT: Young had 14 points in 3:33 early in the fourth quarter that propelled Washington to an 87-82 lead with 7:40 to play. In his last four games, Young has 18, 19, 20 and 21. Will he score 22 In Miami on Monday?

NOT: Starting in place of the injured Carter, J.J. Redick shot just three times in 25 minutes, scoring eight points. In the first two games Carter was injured, Redick had 20 and 15.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: The Magic's Quentin Richardson, who entered Saturday's game averaging 6.7 points, had 20 -- a season high. With Carter sitting, Richardson is shooting more. He had 14 in Friday night's win.

GOOD MOVE: Washington coach Flip Saunders inserted Young with 8:16 to play in the third quarter and watched him score 19 of his 21 points, nearly getting the win.

BAD MOVE: Wizards center JaVale McGee, who had 10 or more rebounds in the previous five games, committed two fouls trying to guard Howard in the first seven minutes. Howard had 10 points in the first quarter.

ROOKIE WATCH: In his fourth game, Washington rookie forward Kevin Seraphin had four points in just under 10 minutes.

IN THE ARENA: Alex Ovechkin, the star Washington Capitals wing, was seated at courtside and got a loud ovation when he was shown on the scoreboard.

NOTABLE: The Wizards have won five games, but not against a team with a winning record. They've beaten Philadelphia twice, Houston, Toronto and Memphis. Those teams have a combined 21-43 record.
