After an 0-5 start, things are suddenly looking up for the Detroit Pistons. The Sacramento Kings wish they could say the same.

Detroit looks for its fourth win in five games since its ugly beginning Sunday at Arco Arena, where the Kings try to avoid a fifth consecutive loss.

The Pistons (3-6) blew three halftime leads in losing their first five games, but managed to head into a four-game Western road trip with a little momentum after a pair of home victories.

They fell to 0-4 on the road after a 22-point drubbing in Portland on Tuesday, and looked like they might blow another lead Friday after allowing the Los Angeles Clippers to rally from a 14-point deficit to force overtime. But this time they didn't fold, using a 9-0 run in the extra five minutes to pick up a 113-107 victory.

"We were definitely determined to get a win on the road, we haven't been so good on the road," reserve Charlie Villanueva said after scoring a season-high 30 points. "This was a game that we definitely needed."

The Pistons have won consecutive road games just once since March 2009, but have reason to believe they can do it again Sunday. Detroit has won its last two visits to Sacramento (3-5), including a 100-92 win Feb. 23 behind 30 points from Richard Hamilton.

It'll be expecting a big game from Tayshaun Prince against the Kings. He's scored between 10 and 17 points in each game this season, but has scored at least 22 in his last four games versus Sacramento - something he's never done against any other opponent.

The Pistons will also be looking for early success at Arco, particularly considering they average an NBA-low 42.8 points in the second half.

When it comes to fast starts, the Kings have been one of the league's most accommodating teams. Sacramento has allowed 58.3 points per game prior to halftime - 29th in the league - and has trailed in all eight games.

Phoenix only had 52 points at the break Friday, but that proved to be enough. The Kings shot a season-low 40.9 percent while Suns guard Steve Nash had 28 points and 14 assists in a 103-89 loss, their fourth straight.

"We didn't play well enough to get the job done," said Carl Landry, who had 20 points and 11 rebounds. "We did some things that were positive and things we can grow off of and learn from, but not quite well enough to get the win."

Sacramento has been held to 91 or fewer points in each of its last three defeats, a troubling trend for a team that needs to score to be successful. The Kings are 1-55 since the start of the 2007-08 season when they score under 92 points.

One way to take advantage of Detroit is on the boards. The Pistons' minus-5.2 rebound differential is one of the league's worst marks. Sacramento, meanwhile, is among the league's best offensive rebounding clubs (13.4 per game) thanks to Landry and Samuel Dalembert, who have it tied for second in second-chance points (17.3).

The Kings' lone win over Detroit in the past two seasons came 103-97 at The Palace on Feb. 10 behind 22 points from Beno Udrih. The guard's 54.8 shooting percentage against the Pistons is his best against any opponent.

Stuckey scores 17 as Pistons beat Kings 100-94

SACRAMENTO, Calif.(AP) An experienced lineup of veterans didn't panic after opening the season with five straight losses. Nearly two weeks after that awful start, the Detroit Pistons are on the mend.

Rodney Stuckey scored 17 points and Ben Gordon hit a late 3 that sent the Pistons over Sacramento 100-94 Sunday, the Kings' fifth straight loss.

The Pistons have won four of five since their early slump.

"We thought we could have won all five of those games," said Gordon, who had eight points in the fourth quarter. "Now we're finishing games out like we know we can."

Gordon did his part with his typical clutch shooting in the fourth. His 3-pointer from the corner put the Pistons ahead 99-94 with 23.9 seconds left. He finished with 16 points despite only shooting six times.

Gordon made a pair of 3-pointers and all six free throws for Detroit, which outscored the struggling Kings 25-22 in the fourth quarter.

"That's where I've made my money - in the fourth quarter," Gordon said. "On the 3-pointer, Tayshuan (Prince) posted up and my man went to help and turned his head. That left me open for a split second and I hit the shot."

Prince had 12 of his 14 points in the second half for the Pistons. Richard Hamilton scored 13 points and Charlie Villanueva added 11. Ben Wallace added 10 rebounds and a big block on Tyreke Evans' runner in the lane with 16.6 seconds left.

"We did a great job of coming up with big plays at the end," Detroit coach John Kuester said. "We valued the basketball in the second half and we ended up with four turnovers (eight in the first half). That was important, especially down the stretch. We didn't give away opportunities. We did some great things down the stretch."

Great things have definitely not been happening of late for the youthful Kings. After opening the season with a surprising 3-1 start, they haven't won. That includes four straight losses at home, where they are 1-4 this season. They are in the midst of playing eight of nine games at home, a stretch that extends to Nov. 21.

Making 2 of 18 3-point attempts against Detroit was a key part of their latest loss for Sacramento. The Kings have been held under 100 points in the last four games after scoring 100 or more in the opening five games.

"We had open 3s for really good shots and went 2 of 18. Sometimes that is the difference in the game in the NBA," Kings coach Paul Westphal said. "You like to think the difference is always how well you take care of the ball, how well you rebound, getting to the line more than the other team, and all that stuff. We didn't make shots. It was discouraging."

Evans scored 20 points and Carl Landry had 19 points and eight rebounds for the Kings. Luther Head added 13 for Sacramento, which shot 45 percent, but made only 14 of 21 free throws.

After Villanueva's two free throws gave Detroit a four-point lead, a driving basket by DeMarcus Cousins pulled the Kings within 94-92 with 1:52 remaining. But Prince answered with a pull-up jumper in the lane.

Ahead 75-72 to open the fourth quarter, Villanueva made a jumper and followed with a 3-pointer, putting the Pistons up by eight points at the 10:17 mark. It had been a quiet first three quarters for Villanueva, who had just two points after scoring a season-high 30 in Detroit's overtime win Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

It was a frustrating game for the highly touted Cousins, the fifth pick in the 2010 draft. He had six points, eight rebounds and six turnovers. The Kings' backup center missed several easy opportunities from close range in the opening half and committed three fouls and three turnovers in just under nine minutes.

"I can't control the refs," said Cousins, who had four fouls and looked tentative for much of the game. "If I get the calls, I get them. If I don't I just try to play through it, that's basketball. That's the way it is."

NOTES: Cousins drew a technical foul following an offensive foul in the second quarter. ... Beno Udrih, the Kings' second-leading scorer, had no points in the first half. He finished with five. ... Detroit attempted only one 3-pointer in the first half and finished 3 of 9.

THE FACTS: Ben Gordon's 3-pointer with 23.9 seconds left in the game was the deciding blow in the Detroit Pistons' 100-94 road victory against the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night. Gordon's 3-pointer from the corner pushed Detroit's lead to five and flaunted what Sacramento couldn't do all night: make a 3-point shot. The Kings shot 2-for-18 from behind the arc despite shooting 45 percent overall.

THE STAT: Home wins are supposed to be easier for a young team, but so far that hasn't been the case in Sacramento as the Kings fell to 1-4 at home. After a 2-1 start on the road, and winning its first game at home, Sacramento has now dropped four consecutive games at Arco Arena. The Kings have three games remaining in their current four-game homestand.

TURNING POINT: Gordon's shot in the final moments may have been the obvious turning point, but that Detroit coach John Kuester's decision to keep Gordon in the game late was more obvious to the guard's success. In Detroit's overtime win against the Clippers on Friday, Gordon didn't play in the final minutes or in overtime.

HOT: Detroit guard Rodney Stuckey scored 17 points for the third consecutive game and added a team-high seven assists.

NOT: The Kings were held to less than 100 points for the fourth consecutive game.

ROOKIE WATCH: Two of the 2010 Draft's top big men competed in the contest. Greg Monroe outshined Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins. Monroe tallied six points and eight rebounds in 15 minutes while Cousins played 24 minutes and had six points, eight rebounds and committed six turnovers.

NOTABLE: Sacramento's young roster isn't lacking in size with the inside presence of Samuel Dalembert, Carl Landry, Cousins and Jason Thompson. Kuester responded to the Kings' size by inserting forward Jason Maxiell into the starting lineup for the first time all season. Maxiell responded with seven rebounds, three of which came on the offensive glass. His biggest rebound, however, wouldn't be logged in the stat book. With 1:22 remaining in the fourth quarter, as the Pistons led 94-92, Maxiell fought on the offensive glass after a Tayshaun Prince missed jumper, causing the ball to go off of Sacramento and retaining a Detroit possession. On that ensuing possession, Prince hit a critical jumper to give Detroit a four-point advantage with just more than a minute remaining.
