The Boston Celtics capped their first extended road trip last season with a convincing win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Celtics will try to open this season's first lengthy trip with their third straight victory at Oklahoma City Arena.

Coming off consecutive overtime home wins, Boston looks to improve to 6-1 for the third straight season Sunday when it faces a Thunder team trying to avoid its first back-to-back home losses since December.

Led by Kevin Garnett's 23 points and 21 in the first half by Paul Pierce, Boston won 105-87 in its last game in Oklahoma City on Dec. 4, finishing a 4-0 trip and handing the Thunder their most lopsided home loss of 2009-10.

Back home following a 1-1 West Coast swing, Oklahoma City (3-2) will host a Celtics team looking to build off its first set of back-to-back overtime wins since March 3-4, 2007. After Wednesday's 105-102 victory over Milwaukee, Boston (5-1) defeated Chicago 110-105 on Friday for its fourth straight win, and now begins a four-game road trip.

"We got some valuable experience in these overtimes, which is great," Pierce said Friday after missing 10 of 14 shots and scoring a season-low 10 points. "I thought we really kept our poise."

Trailing Portland by 13 with 5:27 left in the third quarter Thursday, the Thunder kept their composure and rallied for a 107-106 overtime win. Oklahoma City had lost its previous two by an average of 18.0 points.

"That was a big win for us. I just liked the way we competed and stayed with it," said coach Scott Brooks, whose team fell 107-82 at the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

While the Thunder are allowing 106.4 points per game and shooting just 41.3 percent, they have been one of the most aggressive teams in the league, going to the foul line an NBA-high 34.8 times per game.

Reigning scoring champion Kevin Durant and point guard Russell Westbrook, who each had 28 points and 11 rebounds Thursday, are a combined 82 of 90 from the foul line.

In Oklahoma City's last matchup with Boston, Durant hit all 15 of his free throw attempts and scored 37 points as the visiting Thunder won 109-104 on March 31, snapping the franchise's six-game skid against the Celtics.

"I thought we were playing Michael (expletive) Jordan the way he was getting the whistle," Garnett said after the Celtics became the last team to lose to the Thunder following the franchise's 2008 move from Seattle. "Durant damn near shot more free throws than our whole team."

While Garnett and Pierce will have to contend with Durant and Jeff Green, the point guard matchup between Rajon Rondo and Westbrook should also be an intriguing one.

Despite playing with foot soreness, Rondo has been remarkable, averaging 11.3 points, a league-best 15.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds.

Westbrook averaged 18.0 points with 7.0 assists versus the Celtics in 2009-10.

Ray Allen, acquired in a 2007 draft day deal that gave the SuperSonics the rights to the fifth overall pick they used to select Green, will try to continue his hot shooting after averaging 24.0 points on 56.3 percent shooting in the two OT wins.

"We don't want to be overconfident, but at least we're in a situation where we can start to roll," Allen said.

The Thunder, who lost 120-99 to visiting Utah on Oct. 31, haven't dropped two straight at home since Dec. 13-16.

Celtics open 4-game trip by beating Thunder 92-83

OKLAHOMA CITY(AP) Shrek and Donkey are back at it again for the Boston Celtics.

Ray Allen scored 19 points, Boston's reserves helped prevent a big lead from slipping away in the fourth quarter and the Celtics opened a four-game road trip Sunday night with a 92-83 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Glen Davis had three foul line jumpers during a 15-6 push by the Celtics after their 22-point lead had been cut to 73-67 early in the fourth quarter. Nate Robinson, who gave himself the "Donkey" nickname to go with Davis' "Shrek" in the playoffs last season, added a driving layup and Allen's 3-pointer from the left wing restored the advantage to 88-71 with 7:04 remaining.

"That whole group, they were absolutely terrific. They won the game for us," coach Doc Rivers said. "They went from a six- to a (17-) point lead. We came down, we got stops and executed, and Nate was terrific."

Rivers was forced to go with his backups after Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook scored all of the Thunder's points during the third quarter, when Oklahoma City outscored Boston 27-15.

The Celtics led by as much as 64-42 before Westbrook reeled off a personal string of nine straight points to give Oklahoma City a chance. He hit a pair of jumpers and three free throws, then capped it off with a steal that led to a two-handed, fast-break dunk.

Allen fired back with a jumper and a 3-pointer in Boston's 7-0 response, but Oklahoma City scored 16 of the next 18 points to pull to 73-67 on James Harden's 3 to open the fourth quarter.

"In this league, everyone loses leads, but not the way we did today," Rivers said. "We got up on a great team and then you have to keep playing that way to win the game and stay up. We kind of let up. You can get away with that against a lot of teams. Not with a team with Westbrook and Durant on it. You definitely can't do that."

But with Robinson starting to figure out his role as the second-team point guard, until Delonte West returns from a 10-game suspension, the Celtics' cartoony combination helped to put the game away.

"We've just got to continue to give our starters a lift off the bench and continue to do what we've been doing, which is playing together and having fun," said Robinson, who had a season-high nine points.

Durant scored 34 points and Westbrook had 16 points and 10 assists to lead Oklahoma City, which played without third-leading scorer Jeff Green. Green is day to day with a sprained left ankle.

The Thunder had back-to-back lopsided losses to Utah and the Los Angeles Clippers before rallying from a 13-point, third quarter deficit to beat Portland in overtime on Thursday night.

"We wanted to play hard and get back in the game," Durant said. "We had a bad first half and just wanted to redeem ourselves. I think we were pressing it a little too much and causing turnovers, but you have to give them credit. They're a great team."

Paul Pierce scored 17 points and Rajon Rondo added 10 points and 10 assists for Boston. The Celtics' bench outscored Oklahoma City's reserves 33-12.

"They pretty much had our backs when we gave up a lead. That's something we've got to be more aware of coming into the third quarter, once we push a lead out like that," Pierce said. "I thought the bench came in with poise. Coach really has confidence in them executing."

Durant was called for a rare technical foul with 1:05 to play after a scuffle with Pierce under the basket, but replays showed that Pierce had a hold of Durant's arm when it started. After Pierce missed his free throw and Westbrook fouled Rondo on the ensuing inbounds pass, both headed to the bench for the rest of the game.

Boston built a 58-37 halftime lead by shooting 56 percent and finishing on a 24-6 run. Robinson hit a running, right-handed 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to draw a fist pump from Rivers, who had substituted him into the game with 2.3 seconds left in hopes of stealing a basket before intermission.

After leading the NBA in field goal percentage defense much of last season, the Thunder came in with the third-worst mark in the league.

"They'll be fine. Everybody's gunning for them right now, and it'll be an adjustment period. But they'll be right back up there by the end of the year," Rivers said. "They're so talented, they're well-coached. they'll be fine. I'm glad we only see them twice."

NOTES: The Thunder will donate about $10,000 to the International Red Cross to help with earthquake relief in C Nenad Krstic's Serbian hometown. ... With Green and F Nick Collison out, rookie Cole Aldrich played a career-high 14 minutes for Oklahoma City but did not score. ... Boston C Shaquille O'Neal sat out his fourth straight game with a sore right knee.

THE FACTS: The Boston Celtics used an early run to scoot out to a 22-point lead and then held off a late Oklahoma City rally to beat the Thunder 92-83 inside sold-out Oklahoma City Arena. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Kevin Durant scored a season-high 34 and Russell Westbrook added 16 for a short-handed OKC squad. The Thunder played without power forward Jeff Green (19.4 ppg, 7.2 rpg), who turned an ankle in practice.

THE STAT: Durant was 5-for-6 in the third quarter, scoring 14 points in leading a furious Oklahoma City rally that brought the Thunder from 22 down to within six. Westbrook scored 13, and the pair accounted for all 27 Thunder points in the third frame. Boston missed seven consecutive shots and turned the ball over twice during the rally.

TURNING POINT: Oklahoma City led 19-16 when Rajon Rondo stole the ball from Durant, igniting a 12-2 run that extended all the way to 42-18 over the rest of the half.

QUOTABLE II: "We played as well as a team can play in the first half, then we did the exact reverse in the third quarter. Veteran teams shouldn't do that but we got away with it tonight."

HOT: The Celtics bench. Glen Davis, Marquis Daniels, Semih Erden and Nate Robinson were 13-for-23 for 33 points.

NOT: The Thunder bench. James Harden, Eric Maynor, Cole Aldrich and Daequan Cook were 5-for-11 for just 12 points.

INSIDE THE ARENA: Eight-year-old Oklahoma City singing sensation Nolia Sweatt brought the house down with a rousing rendition of the National Anthem. Scattered among the blue-clad Thunder crowd were quite a few fans wearing Celtic green. Also on hand was University of Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale.

GOOD MOVE: Celtics coaches had written "Show Durant a crowd" on the dry erase board in the locker room before the game. They did, and Durant turned the ball over three times in the first quarter. Durant took better care of the ball the rest of the way, losing it only once more the rest of the game.

ROOKIE WATCH: Celtics center Semih Erden got in the game in the first quarter and so did Thunder rookie center Cole Aldirch. Erden scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds in almost 14 minutes. Aldrich was also on the floor for almost 14 minutes but he took only one shot and missed it. He did pull down four rebounds.

NOTABLE: Oklahoma City came into the game leading the NBA in free throw attempts per game (34.8) but went to the line only 17 times, making 15, against the Celtics. Durant has scored at least 30 points in three of Oklahoma City's six games. He tallied 28 in two more.
