Since losing their season opener, the Miami Heat have been on a roll. They'll face a stiff test Friday night when they take on one of the NBA's three remaining unbeatens.

Miami seeks its fifth straight victory when it hits the road to face the New Orleans Hornets.

The Heat (4-1) have won their last four games by an average of 22.8 points while holding opponents to 36.8 percent shooting from the floor, but Chris Bosh believes there's room for improvement on the boards.

"I think we have to get used to teams missing so much. We're holding teams to a low (field goal) percentage, and that's a lot of misses," he said. "We're going to have to box out a little bit better. We have been winning by 20 points but it might increase if we give them one shot. If we clean (the rebounding) up, I think we'll be an even better defensive team."

After averaging a career-best 24.0 points and 10.8 rebounds with Toronto in 2009-10, Bosh is scoring 11 fewer points and grabbing 6.4 boards per game for star-studded Miami. He doesn't seem to mind as long as the team continues to triumph.

"I don't care about numbers," he said. "The only number I care about is winning. You can have great games, you can have great numbers and be at the bottom of the totem pole as far as the league is concerned. I think I can speak for that, too. I've experienced it. You can do everything you want, you can average the best numbers, but if you don't win it really doesn't matter."

Bosh isn't the only Heat star who has seen his numbers drop off. LeBron James is averaging a career-low 20.4 points.

The Heat might want to think about getting James more involved offensively Friday night. Cleveland went 8-0 against the Hornets when James scored 22 points or more, and 3-5 when he had 21 or fewer.

The two-time reigning MVP missed Thursday with a deep bruise on his right shin, but expects to be in the lineup Friday.

Miami routed Minnesota 129-97 on Tuesday behind Dwyane Wade's 26 points and 12-of-17 shooting. Wade knows Miami will have its hands full in New Orleans, where it is 2-8 since the Hornets relocated eight years ago.

"Chris Paul is one of the best, if not the best, point guard in our league today, especially at picking you apart," he said. "He does a great job of making you commit to him because he's a scoring threat and also with the ability to throw it to (a teammate). It's not going to be an easy task at all."

Paul leads the Hornets in scoring (21.3) and assists (9.0), and is adding 6.3 rebounds per game. He's led New Orleans to its third 4-0 start in five seasons.

"We're a defensive team, we're still trying to find our identity," said Paul, who scored 25 points in Wednesday's 107-99 victory at Houston. "We're no where near where we want to be, but we know that every night we step on the court - if we defend, we give ourselves the opportunity to win."

Despite the early success, first-year coach Monty Williams doesn't want his Hornets to get ahead of themselves.

"It's good to start 4-0, but with 78 more games to go we're not going to be a team that allows our record to dictate how we play," he said.

Paul, Okafor, help Hornets upset Heat, 96-93

NEW ORLEANS(AP) If all Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets had done was race to a franchise-best 5-0 start, that would be surprising enough.

Doing it with a rookie coach one season after missing the playoffs, and beating the Miami Heat's All-Star trio in the process adds a little more sizzle to their hot start.

"We just got to keep playing, man. I'm not surprised just because we're all professionals," Paul said. "It doesn't matter what it looks like on paper, you just have to go out and play the game and that's what we're doing."

Emeka Okafor evoked memories of his dominant college days at Connecticut with a season-high 26 points and 13 rebounds, Paul had 13 points, 19 assists and five steals, and New Orleans held on for a 96-93 victory over Miami on Friday night.

"Mek was outstanding tonight," Paul said. "Every time he stepped out on the court, he played with a lot of passion and I think when he gets going, we all feed off of him. He just played a great game."

Paul's ability to dribble through traffic and distract defenders helped him get the ball to Okafor for a couple dunks, one on an alley-oop. But Okafor did a lot of his own work while going 12 of 13 from the field, spinning into the lane for a jump hook and tipping in one of Paul's misses.

Okafor credited teammates for getting him involved in the offense early.

"That's important. It gets you going, gives you energy," Okafor said. "When you're involved in the offense and you're getting that ball, you just feel more engaged and all of a sudden your rhythm's up, your legs have more spring."

David West added 15 points, including crucial free throws with 7.2 seconds to go after Chris Bosh's 3 had pulled Miami within 94-93. Dwyane Wade then gave up a potential tying 3-point attempt and passed to Eddie House, whose shot rimmed out in the final seconds.

"He got a great look," Wade said of House, a 3-point specialist. "We'd live with that shot every game if we had to. He's a great shooter. Unfortunately it just didn't go in."

Miami did not take its first lead until LeBron James' free throws made it 90-89 with 59.8 seconds left, but the Hornets responded with Marco Belinelli's free throws, and then Trevor Ariza's 3.

"One thing we have to continue to learn, that every time we step out on the basketball court, no matter who we're going against, we can't just show up, you know, because we have this uniform on, because we have who we have on the court," James said. "We have to play and it's not about Xs and Os, it's about the energy level.

"We know we can still make a comeback because of the talent that we have, but teams are always going to be excited to play us," James continued. "If we don't match that effort early, then it's always an uphill battle throughout the whole game and that's what it was."

Wade led all scorers with 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, and went 13 of 13 from the foul line.

New Orleans led 86-79 inside the final five minutes when Wade ignited Miami's late surge with a 3. He then drew Belinelli into a foul on another 3-point attempt and made all three free throws to cut it to 86-85.

Paul set up Okafor for a basket inside, and the Hornets appeared ready to put it away when Paul used a crossover dribble to create space and drove in for an apparent floater off the glass. However, officials called Paul for a charge and then Paul's animated response drew a technical foul.

Soon after, James, who had 20 points and 10 assists, finally put Miami in the lead, and it appeared that the dream start of first-year Hornets coach Monty Williams was about to end.

Paul and Co. had other ideas.

"It's nice to be part of a group who plays hard every night," Williams said. "Different guys are stepping up. ... The start is great, but we are going to win a lot of games if we play defense like that."

New Orleans shot 49 percent while holding Miami to 42 percent. Ariza finished with 13 points for New Orleans and reserve Jason Smith had 12.

Bosh had 15 points for Miami and Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 10. The loss meant James played more than 41 fruitless minutes and Wade 40, one night before they were scheduled to play again at home against New Jersey.

Notes: James said before the game that he had seen Cleveland's mock version of his Nike "What should I do" ad campaign. He offered only a brief, unemotional assessment: "It was all right. They could have done a better job." ... The Hornets also mocked James' made-for-TV "Decision" segment, only with the decision being made by mascot Hugo the Hornet. With the Fletcher Mackel, sports anchor for NBC affiliate WDSU-TV, handling the interview, it played on the arena's large video board to mild laughter. ... Attendance was announced as an overflow sellout of 17,988, and the crowd included Saints players Drew Brees, Darren Sharper and Tracy Porter, as well as rap artist Lil Wayne, who was released from jail this week.

THE FACTS: Chris Paul had 13 points and 19 assists as the New Orleans Hornets stunned LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat with a 96-93 win Friday night at the New Orleans Arena. Hornets coach Monty Williams is still undefeated as an NBA head coach and the team has started the season 5-0, which is the best start in franchise history.

QUOTABLE: "I don't want to make light f it, but at the same time it's nice to be part of a group who plays hard every night. Different guys are stepping up each night. I don't want to sit here and babble about something that doesn't mean anything, but I know we are a together group. ... I'm growing up minute by minute. ... Over the long haul, I'll get better at it."

THE STAT: The Hornets scored the first two points of the game and only trailed the Heat once the entire game for only nine seconds. New Orleans outscored Miami 29-17 in the first quarter. The Heat outscored the Hornets in every other quarter.

TURNING POINT: Hornets forward Trevor Ariza hit a 3-pointer with 14.3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give New Orleans a 94-90 lead and a sigh of relief after nearly blowing a game the Hornets had in hand from the onset.

HOT: Hornets center Emeka Okafor. After a lackluster season last year, Okafor has been sharp through five games and he made his biggest contribution of the season on both ends on Friday as he scored a team-high 26 points shooting 12 of 13 from the floor along with 13 rebounds.

QUOTABLE II: "We maybe got some attention (throughout the league), but we're still just focusing on ourselves and trying to get where we need to get. That's it."

INSIDE THE ARENA: Rapper Lil' Wayne made his way courtside just before the end of the first half. It was the rapper's second night out of jail after serving eight months of his one-year sentence for drug-related charges. ... Other famous faces in the crowd included NFL Hall of Famer Ricky Jackson (wearing his yellow HOF jacket), New Orleans Saints players Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, Darren Sharper, Tracy Porter, Robert Meachem, Devery Henderson, Jonathan Goodwin, Chris Ivory and actor Harry Shearer. Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard sang the National Anthem.

NOTABLE: James, Wade and Bosh combined for 63 of the Heat's 93 points. ... Friday night's game was the Hornets' first sellout of the season. ...
