A loss to one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference not only ended the Miami Heat's long winning streak, it also prevented them from keeping pace in the standings.

Facing another lowly club may help Miami get back on track.

The Heat continue their stretch against lesser opponents when they begin their final road trip of the season Sunday night against the New York Knicks.

Miami (44-35) entered Friday's home matchup with last-place Detroit on a nine-game winning streak and tied with Milwaukee for fifth place in the East. The Heat, though, lost 106-99 and the Bucks won 95-90 at Philadelphia.

"It hurt us," forward Michael Beasley said. "We're going to regret this one."

Dwyane Wade, fifth in the NBA with 26.4 points per game, finished with 19 - none in the final 13 minutes.

"You play games in this league to win," Wade said. "Some are going to be tight. Some aren't going to be. We won nine games in a row. We lost one. We'll bounce back."

The Heat will try to do so against New York (28-51), the seventh of nine straight opponents to end the season that is under .500. Miami visits the 76ers on Monday before hosting NBA-worst New Jersey on Wednesday.

Coach Erik Spoelstra, though, said he's been telling the Heat that waiting to pull games out late against teams whose seasons will end next week is dangerous.

"Right now we've had slippage," he told the Heat's official Web site. "We've had slippage at the start of games. We're not coming out with energy."

Miami has averaged 112.5 points in winning four in a row over New York, taking both meetings this season by an average of 14.0. That trend seems likely to hold up with the Knicks among the worst teams in the league in allowing 105.6 points per game.

New York lost for the sixth time in eight games Friday night, 118-103 at Southeast Division champion Orlando.

"We played hard. We played pretty well. They just outmanned us. They're just better," coach Mike D'Antoni said.

Danilo Gallinari had 28 points and has showed steady improvement since the Knicks selected him with the sixth overall pick in 2008. The 21-year-old forward has averaged 22.8 points in the last five games and is second in the league with 176 3-pointers made.

"We are trying to develop the young guys and make sure they get good experience," D'Antoni said. "Every game is meaningful and we try to get down to the end when you can win or lose games. We want our young guys to get experience, and I think they're doing that."

One of those players is Earl Barron, who spent his first three years with Miami before not playing in the NBA last season. The 7-foot center has started the last three games after being signed to a 10-day contract April 2, averaging 13.3 points and 13.0 rebounds.

Wade shoulders win for Heat and lots more

NEW YORK (NBA.com exclusive) -- Dwyane Wade threw a scare into his coach, teammates and Miami Heat fans everywhere when he fell hard on his right wrist while trying to beat the halftime buzzer with a driving layup Sunday night at Madison Square Garden.

The Miami superstar ended up lying still on the court and huddling with Miami's team doctor for several moments before heading to the locker room for X-rays.

"I always [have] fear when I fall on this one because I've had trouble before so [I] don't want that again. Before they take any X-rays, I just wanted to ice it down, let it calm down and it felt better, so I came back out and played," Wade said after scoring 18 of his game-high 32 points in the second half of Miami's 111-98 victory over the Knicks.

Wade's hand was wrapped in ice as he spoke with a crowd of reporters after the game.

While Wade's USA Basketball teammate LeBron James has the luxury of resting as the Cavaliers cruise into the playoffs as the No. 1 overall seed, Miami has no such advantage.

The Heat (45-35), winners of 10 of 11, moved into a tie with Milwaukee for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference. Milwaukee holds the tiebreaker because it went 3-1 against Miami.

"I gotta keep going," Wade, who initially sprained his right wrist in a January loss to Utah, said of his injury.

While Wade and the Heat keep going toward another postseason, the Knicks (28-52) continue to play out the string hoping that Wade and/or James will join them this summer as a free agent. They have more than $30 million to spend, potentially on two max-contract free agents.

"I'm sure guys have to [consider playing for the Knicks]," Wade said. "You have to think about the city. It's a great city and it's a great possibility, more so than anything. I don't really talk to guys like that...but I'm sure it's a very attractive place."

Still, Wade conceded that playing in a winning environment would be the deciding factor.

"Mostly it is about winning," he said. "It is crazy I have to think about it this way, but I think about my legacy. Where I want to be when I get done playing. Winners are who you remember, more so than individuals."

Six Heat players scored in double-figures as did five Knicks. Michael Beasley scored 16 points for Miami and Udonis Haslem and former Knick Quentin Richardson had 14 apiece.

David Lee led the Knicks with 26 points, while 7-footer Earl Barron continued to be a pleasant surprise by putting up a double-double of 13 points and 12 boards. Danilo Gallinari added 19 points.

Gallinari drew the first defensive assignment on Wade, but picked up his second foul with 6:51 remaining in the first period and went to the bench.

After the Knicks led by as many as nine points in the second period, Miami outscored New York 29-12 to close the half and take a 55-47 halftime lead.

Wade had 14 points when he went into the locker room and Richardson scored 11.

The Knicks cut Miami's 15-point lead to 93-85 in the fourth quarter, but Wade drove in for a dunk, extending it back to 10 points.

"He's in that argument [about] who's the best player in the game," Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said of Wade before the game. "Whenever you have him on the floor, whatever game you're playing, they have a chance to win."

The Knicks (28-52) have dropped seven of nine and will close the season with a home game against Washington Monday night and a trip to Toronto Wednesday.

The Knicks have 50+ losses in four of the last six years and in the other two they lost 49 times.

While the Knicks have just two games left, Wade and his teammates are gearing up to try and challenge the Eastern Conference elite in the postseason.

"If he can stay healthy," D'Antoni said of Wade, "I wouldn't want to see them in the playoffs because you have that X-factor there that you don't know what's going to happen."

NOTES: WADE UNDECIDED ABOUT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wade reiterated that he's undecided about playing in the World Championships this summer in Turkey.

"My thing is, I got a lot of things going on personally," Wade said. "If I can be there in Vegas or in New York...then I will be there. I'm a part of this team. And if could play, I will. If I can't, then they will understand."

Wade is in the midst of a divorce and a custody settlement.

"If I got something to do that's first and more important, and it's my family, then I have to do it," he said.

Jerry Colangelo, the head of USA Basketball, recently announced that anyone who misses the World Championships without a good reason could be left off the roster at the 2012 London Olympics.

"There were a lot of things said prematurely and eventually we will all sit down and go from there," Wade said. "It's unfortunate that there was stuff said back and forth. They know with my heart that I've been committed to USA Basketball since 2004."
