Struggling on the road, the Los Angeles Clippers can't afford to not have their All-Star center on the court. The Sacramento Kings also know what it's like to play without their big man.

One game after being ejected, Chris Kaman tries to help the Clippers win for the third time in 19 road contests Sunday night against Spencer Hawes and the Kings.

Kaman was whistled for two technical fouls 20 seconds into the second half to get ejected for the first time in his career in Friday night's 125-112 loss at Phoenix.

Los Angeles (24-34) had its three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 7-22 away from home.

"I told Chris I thought he let the team down and crossed the line with what he said to the referee," coach Kim Hughes said. "He wasn't getting calls and I agree with him, but it's not going to do him any good what he said to the official. He can't put the team in a position like that. He's too valuable to be thrown out. It was just a bad basketball play."

Kaman leads the Clippers with averages of 19.6 points and 9.2 rebounds. He had four consecutive double-doubles before leaving Friday's game with 12 points and five boards.

Eric Gordon, second on Los Angeles with 17.3 points per game, had 25 on Friday. The second-year guard scored 30 in a 99-89 home win over Sacramento (19-39) last Saturday and averages 24.7 points in three meetings.

Kaman also played a key role against Sacramento last week, scoring 22 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.

The Clippers have lost their last three visits to Arco Arena, with Kaman missing each game due to injuries.

The Kings, 14-14 at home, are trying to build on Friday's 103-99 win over Utah, ending a five-game losing streak by overcoming some of their own disciplinary problems.

Hawes criticized coach Paul Westphal's rotation and was benched for Tuesday's 101-89 loss to Detroit. The two apparently reconciled, and the center had 15 points and 12 rebounds against the Jazz.

"We're moving on, what happened is now water under the bridge," said Hawes, who averages 10.5 points and 5.9 boards.

Hawes, the 10th overall selection in the 2007 draft, wasn't much of a factor opposite Kaman last week, registering eight points with one rebound in just over 22 minutes off the bench.

Tyreke Evans continues to be a bright spot for the Kings, making 57.1 percent of his shots to average 22.3 points with 7.5 assists over the last four games. He scored 21 on 9-for-14 shooting against the Clippers.

The rookie guard leads the team with 20.3 points, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Evans takes over late to lead Kings past Clippers

SACRAMENTO (NBA.com exclusive) -- Tyreke Evans stood in front of his locker wearing a shirt that said, "I'm That Dude" after Sunday night's game.

And he is just that for the Sacramento Kings.

The rookie sensation picked the perfect time to score his first points of the fourth quarter during Sacramento's 97-92 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Clippers at Arco Arena.

Evans had scored 18 points through three quarters but he was quiet early in the fourth quarter.

Then he came through just when his team needed him most.

Sacramento had led by double figures for most of the second half but the lead was down to 91-90 with less than two minutes left.

Evans, who was the fourth overall pick in the NBA draft, took over.

He scored on a drive with 1:27 left and then scored on another drive with 42 seconds left.

His clutch plays put the Kings up 95-90 and they held on for the win.

Kings coach Paul Westphal celebrated with a huge fist pump following Evans' second hoop.

"(Assistant coach) Mario (Elie) tells me that the end of the game -- that's the time for me to take over," Evans said. "I like the big shots and I want to take them any chance I can get. ...Ever since I was younger I've been hitting big shots."

Evans finished with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-21 shooting. He added five rebounds and three assists.

"He attacked the hoop," said Clippers coach Kim Hughes about Evans. "He is a tremendous talent. I thought we did a good defensive job on him. The primary focus of our defense was to stop him. He is virtually impossible to guard one-on-one. He has great size, speed and quickness and he broke out at the end."

This is the second win in a row for the Kings (20-39) as they knocked off visiting Utah on Friday night.

"On a night that we didn't shoot particularly well, I thought our defense won the game for us," Westphal said. "I thought that we played 48 minutes of first-class defense, really for the second game in a row. ...If we can have (good defense) be our calling card as well as to be an offensive team that's tough to guard -- which I think we're a lot more balanced now with Carl (Landry) to able to go into the low post . . . I think that we're taking some good steps toward becoming a legitimate NBA team that can expect to win whenever we play. Or at least hope to win whenever we play."

Spencer Hawes scored 16 points in the first half but he went scoreless in the second half. He added nine rebounds and two blocks.

"I thought Spencer played a good, complete game," Westphal said. "Even though in the second half he didn't score, I still thought that he was a big part of the win."

Hawes was mixing it up in the middle with L.A.'s Chris Kaman, who finished with team highs in points (18) and rebounds (11).

"(Kaman) is an all-star, there are no bones about it," Hawes said. "He is so skilled down there and for me it is kind of like playing against myself. He goes left or right, and can really create so many problems when he gets rolling. I think our team did a great job of containing him."

Drew Gooden scored 17 points and grabbed eight boards for the Clippers while Rasual Butler (13 points), Eric Gordon (13), Baron Davis (13) and Travis Outlaw (11) also scored in double figures.

Landry, a forward who Sacramento acquired from Houston when it dealt Kevin Martin earlier this month, finished with 18 points and eight rebounds in 41 minutes. He scored 10 points in the fourth quarter. Rookie Omri Casspi (12 points) joined Evans, Landry and Hawes in double figures.

The Kings are now 8-5 when Evans and Beno Udrih start in the backcourt. Udrih had nine points, six assists and two steals in the win.

"We beat Utah, we beat the Clippers and we all feel good about ourselves," Udrih said. "We are making steps forward and we need to keep making steps forward so we can get better everyday."

The Kings had just eight turnovers against Utah and they had only nine against the Clippers.

"Even though we weren't really able to score that much, the fact that we only turned it over nine times (shows that) our offense didn't beat us," Westphal said.

The Kings led 32-18 after one quarter after closing it on a 20-4 run and never trailed again.

The Clippers (24-35) have now lost nine of their last 10 games on the road. They are 3-2 with Hughes at the helm.
