After finishing a perfect four-game road trip with an impressive comeback, the Utah Jazz may be returning home as the NBA's hottest team.

In Salt Lake City, the Atlanta Hawks have been ice cold for more than 17 years.

The Hawks will have a tough task Monday night if they hope to end their 15-game losing streak at Utah, which can grab a share of the Northwest Division lead with a fifth consecutive win.

Even a 25-point second-half deficit couldn't derail the short-handed Jazz, who beat Portland 93-89 in overtime Sunday for their 17th win in 19 games, putting an exclamation mark on a trip that included victories at Houston and New Orleans.

"We fought back," forward Carlos Boozer said. "A lot of teams probably wouldn't have done that being down 25."

Boozer tied the game at the end of regulation with a putback and finished with 22 points and a career-high 23 rebounds, giving himself six double-doubles in seven games since returning from a calf injury.

"He's so strong," Portland's Marcus Camby said of Boozer. "You can't take away from his physical gift he has out there, his knack for getting the basketball."

Even though Utah (36-19) shot below 40 percent from the field Sunday for the first time since a 91-89 loss at Memphis on Jan. 8, the Jazz have still hit 50.9 percent of their shots during the 17-2 stretch since that defeat, vaulting up the standings to third place in the Western Conference.

They trail first-place Denver by one-half game in the division.

Atlanta (34-20) was on the opposite side of a big comeback Sunday, blowing a 17-point fourth-quarter advantage in a 108-104 loss at Golden State, and the Hawks hope they're not headed in the wrong direction after dropping three of four.

The Warriors took the lead in the final minute on a free throw that resulted from Jamal Crawford's technical foul.

"We just fell apart," Hawks point guard Mike Bibby said. "We're up 20 points. A team of our caliber shouldn't lose that game. It happened, but we can't let it happen too much."

Orlando's win over Cleveland earlier in the day helped drop the Hawks 2 1/2 games out of first in the Southeast Division. A big reason for Atlanta's stumble has been its recent woes on the road, where the team has dropped the last two and eight of 12.

Salt Lake City isn't a promising place for the Hawks to end their four-game trip. They haven't won in Utah since Feb. 13, 1993, when Dominique Wilkins scored 43 points in Atlanta's 121-112 victory.

The skid continued with a 108-89 drubbing one year ago Tuesday.

Atlanta will hope to harness some momentum from its 96-83 home win over the Jazz on Dec. 18. The Hawks held Deron Williams to a season-low two points on 1-of-8 shooting, prompting the point guard to apologize to Utah's fans and admit he "played like crap."

Boozer had just six points.

"Whatever their scheme was, (it) worked," Boozer said.

While the Jazz hope to get Mehmet Okur back after he missed the last two games due to the birth of his son, they may be without Andrei Kirilenko, who left Sunday's win due to back spasms. Kirilenko has shot 60.4 percent from the field since regaining a starting role Jan. 11.

Hawks win in Utah for first time since 1993

SALT LAKE CITY (NBA.com exclusive) -- The Atlanta Hawks had a few things working against them prior to Monday night's game against the Utah Jazz.

They were coming off a devastating road defeat after blowing an 18-point lead at Golden State on Sunday. It was the final game of a four-game road trip, which can sometimes be a prime spot for mailing in a contest. They were also playing in a building they hadn't won in since 1993.

Playing a full 48 minutes made those factors moot points for the Hawks.

Atlanta (35-20) had fresher legs, played stronger defense and executed better than the Jazz (36-20) in the fourth quarter and pulled out a 105-100 victory. Utah, which had won 17 of its previous 19 games, was without starters Deron Williams and Andrei Kirilenko because of injuries.

"We were really committed tonight," said Hawks coach Mike Woodson. "Instead of playing 36 minutes we competed for 48 minutes. Last night's game was such a big letdown because we had such a big lead going into the fourth quarter and we got comfortable. It bit us in our butts."

The Hawks had no such issues this time around. It looked like the game was slipping away from them when Utah rookie Wesley Matthews hit a baby hook in the paint with 8:47 left in the contest to give the Jazz an 85-79 lead. But Woodson called a timeout, and once play resumed, it took Atlanta less than 2 minutes to erase the 6-point deficit.

Josh Smith tied the game at 85-85 when he dunked on an alley-oop pass from Mike Bibby, and then the Hawks took the lead for good at 97-95 on a 3-pointer by Joe Johnson with 2:28 remaining.

"I thought we were very composed tonight," said Johnson, who led the Hawks with 28 points. "In the fourth quarter when we did get down we were able to not get rattled and make a run of our own and kind of close the game out."

The Hawks outplayed the Jazz in all phases in the fourth quarter, but especially with their ball movement, shooting and defense. Atlanta assisted on seven of 10 made baskets in the fourth. The Hawks shot 66.7 percent in the final period, compared to Utah's 36.4 percent.

Compare that effort to Sunday night when the Hawks were outscored by the Warriors -- who dressed just eight healthy players -- 35-14 in the fourth quarter of a 108-104 loss, and it's easy to understand why Atlanta's locker room was all smiles following Monday's victory.

"Tonight we bounced back and played a great team, probably the hottest team in the league," Woodson said. "Sure they were a little short-handed without Williams and Kirilenko, but our guys stayed the course and they battled. We needed a game like this."

And they certainly needed a win in Utah.

"We've come a long way," Woodson said of breaking his team's losing skid in Utah. "We got to give this locker room a lot of credit because they really pushed and knew that we gave one away last night. It's a big win for our ballclub."

Five players scored in doubles figures for the Hawks. Smith had 18 points and nine rebounds. Jamal Crawford came off the bench to score 17 points with four 3-pointers.

Williams and Kirilenko were both injured in Utah's 93-89 win over Portland on Sunday in which the Jazz rallied from a 25-point deficit in the third quarter. Williams was out with a bruised right thigh, while Kirilenko sat because of back spasms.

"We can't make excuses," said Jazz forward Paul Millsap. "That just gives other guys the opportunity to step up. For the most part we did a good job, but we just didn't come out with the win."

The Jazz didn't come away with the win because they blew too many opportunities down the stretch. Down 99-97 with 1:16 left to play, Carlos Boozer let a possible offensive rebound slip through his hands and the ball went out of bounds. Johnson quickly made Utah pay, hitting a 14-foot runner to put the Hawks up four.

C.J. Miles was fouled on Utah's next possession but missed two free throws. Millsap missed a putback on Miles' second attempt and a shot by Boozer got lodged between the side of the rim and the backboard. Atlanta won the ensuing jump ball.

With Atlanta leading 102-98 with 21.1 seconds remaining, Ronnie Price missed the second of two free throws, and then crashed into Millsap, who had the rebound in his hands for a split second before it was knocked loose. Smith picked it up, and passed to Johnson, who then iced the game with two free throws.

"Well, we made a couple mistakes trying to come down the stretch and turned the ball over a couple times and missed free throws that could help keep you in there," said Jazz coach Jerry Sloan. "But I thought our guys played hard, being short-handed and that kind of thing. I thought everybody tried to step up and play hard."
