Wizards-Raptors Preview

The Toronto Raptors are opening a three-game homestand with Chris Bosh's status uncertain. With or without the All-Star forward, they might want to try a different game plan against the Washington Wizards.

After overcoming Bosh's absence to continue their torrid scoring run, the Raptors look to end a three-game home losing streak to the lowly Wizards on Saturday night.

Toronto (30-24) won 106-89 at New Jersey on Friday night, extending its franchise record for consecutive 100-point games to 19. The Raptors shot 59.7 percent, even with Bosh missing the game due to an ankle injury.

Bosh, who was hurt in a 109-102 overtime loss to Memphis on Wednesday night, wasn't in New Jersey and is listed as day to day. He leads the Raptors with 24.5 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, both career highs.

Bosh has played in Toronto's last two home games against Washington (19-33) after missing the previous matchup due to a knee injury. The Raptors came up short in each contest, though the Wizards have been one of the league's worst teams during that span.

Bosh was one of three players to score at least 20 points for Toronto in a 106-102 home loss to Washington on Dec. 1. Since then, the Raptors have won 15 of 18 at the Air Canada Centre.

The Raptors needed overtime to win their only other meeting with the Wizards this season, 109-107 on Dec. 4. Bosh had 31 points, 16 rebounds and four assists.

Rasho Nesterovic didn't score in 4 minutes off the bench in that contest, but he had a strong performance as Bosh's replacement versus the Nets, posting a season-high 16 points. The 7-footer didn't play in the previous three games and had totaled two points in 10 minutes over the two games before that.

"There are some nights you just feel it," Nesterovic said. "It's much easier than if you're struggling. All I can do is try and do my best."

Washington will again be without big man Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who will not travel to Toronto. His future with the team is uncertain after being acquired from Cleveland as part of three-team trade Wednesday.

Ilgauskas finally reported to the Wizards on Friday, but he arrived too late to participate in practice. The veteran could be bought out.

Washington, though, got strong efforts from two of its other new additions in a 107-97 win over Denver on Friday night.

Al Thornton, acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of Wednesday's deal that sent Antawn Jamison to the Cavaliers, scored 21 points in his Wizards debut. Josh Howard added 20 points in his first start for Washington since being acquired from Dallas on Feb. 13.

Coach Flip Saunders, seemingly excited over the Wizards' new look, had a unique pregame pep talk.

"We've got to play like a bunch of mad dogs," he told them.

It was the Wizards' second game without Jamison. Andray Blatche, who has replaced Jamison in the starting lineup, had a career-high 33 points in a 108-99 win over Minnesota on Wednesday night and posted 18 points and 11 rebounds versus the Nuggets.

Blatche has helped put the Wizards in position to try to win three straight for the first time this season.

Raptors turn to another Yellow Jacket to drop Wizards

TORONTO (NBA.com exclusive) -- In the fourth quarter of a close game, the Raptors are used to their superstar From Georgia Tech saving the day.

With Chris Bosh sidelined for a second consecutive game, Toronto is quickly learing to lean on another Yellow Jacket.

In a 109-104 victory over the Washington Wizards, Jarrett Jack did his best superstar impersonation, finishing with a team-high 23 points on 6-for-9 shooting to go along with eight assists as he led the Raptors back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit.

"Jarrett carried us," Antoine Wright said. "He went over to coach and said he wanted the ball. He made good things happen. It's one thing to request the ball. It's another to actually make things happen."

While the Raptors came out on fire to start, shooting 64 percent in the first two quarters to take a seven-point lead at the break, the tables turned in the third as a Washington squad that has barely been together a week looked like a team plenty familiar with one another. Outscoring the Raptors by 10 in the quarter, the Wizards went into the fourth with a three-point advantage.

Watching from the bench as his team was down nine, Jack decided it was his time. Less than two minutes after Jack was reinserted into the lineup, the Raptors reeled off a 14-0 run with Jack serving as the catalyst as the Wizards defense was unsure of how to manage the Toronto pick-and-roll.

"Jack got really aggressive and was great with the pick-and-rolls," Wizards coach Flip Saunders said. "We had opportunities, we played hard and put ourselves in a position, but couldn't make that shot to withstand their momentum. To their credit they made plays, got to the free throw line and made up some points."

Jack had 11 of his points in the final 12 minutes as Toronto's offense came alive and their defense -- keyed by three blocks in the quarter from Andrea Bargnani -- did just enough to protect the victory.

"I think we just know how desperately we need to win these games going down the stretch, making the final push to the end of the season," Jack said. "Especially the ones at home because they are crucial and very vital to how we play out the rest of the season. We can't let these opportunities slip out of our fingers."

While everyone gave Jack credit for the victory, he had plenty of help from his teammates for the second night as six players reached double figures. Andrea Bargnani added 18, Antoine Wright had a season-high 19 off of the bench and Hedo Turkoglu scored 16 after ditching the mask that he is supposed to wear to protect his fractured orbital bone.

Andray Blatche continued to come up big for the Wizards, scoring 24 points. Josh Howard had 17 and Randy Foye scored 14 in the loss.

When the Wizards refused to go away, the Raptors clinched things at the free-throw line.

As Jose Calderon stood at the foul line with an opportunity to give the Raptors a two-possession lead with 11.2 seconds remaining, Chris Bosh anxiously stood on the sidelines trying his best to will them in for his teammate. He didn't need to, as Calderon sank both and the Raptors were able to get another win without him.

While the victory was another huge one for the Raptors without Bosh in uniform, it was important to get back to winning at home after having an eight-game home winning streak snapped in a loss against Memphis. With a furious finish, the Raptors made the first Saturday night game played at Air Canada Centre since 2001 a victorious one.

"The fans here are always into the game," Jack said. "They definitely helped fuel us and I'm glad we were able to come through."
