The Detroit Pistons have desperately missed Tayshaun Prince's scoring this season. The veteran forward, though, seems to be coming around approaching the All-Star break, and a matchup with the Sacramento Kings may do nothing to slow his momentum.

After getting a boost from Prince, the Pistons look to win two straight at home for the first time in nearly a month as they face the Sacramento Kings and their porous defense Wednesday night.

Detroit (18-32) ranks 29th in the league in scoring, averaging 91.6 points. Only league-worst New Jersey (90.1) has scored fewer.

Despite averaging a modest 93.0 points over their last four games, the Pistons have won three of those contests - two on the road.

One night after a 93-81 victory at Milwaukee, Detroit - which beat New Jersey 99-92 at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Saturday - will try to win consecutive home games for the first time since a three-game run Jan. 15-20.

The Pistons dropped five straight at home following that stretch.

"It's a matter of time before we get back in our flow," Prince said. "It takes a while. You want it to come back as soon as you step on the basketball court, but in this game, it doesn't happen that way."

Another strong game from Prince would certainly help the Pistons' cause. He shot 7 of 11 against the Bucks and finished with a season-high 18 points.

Prince averaged at least 14.1 points in four of his previous five seasons, but is scoring 9.2 per game in 2009-10, while being limited to 17 contests due to lower back and left knee injuries.

He averaged 24.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to help Detroit sweep last season's two-game series against Sacramento (17-34), and may be in line for another strong performance versus the Kings.

Sacramento ranks 27th in the league in scoring defense, allowing 105.9 points per game. The Kings have been even worse over their last five contests, surrendering an average of 114.0 points.

Prince won't be the only player Sacramento will have to worry about defending. Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey had 38 points - two shy of his career high - in a 98-92 victory over the Kings on Jan. 2, 2008, the teams' last meeting.

The assignment of guarding Kings standout rookie Tyreke Evans will likely fall to Stuckey's backcourt mate, Richard Hamilton.

Evans led Sacramento's comeback against New York on Tuesday night, finishing with 27 points and 10 rebounds as the Kings snapped a six-game losing streak with a 118-114 overtime victory. Evans had 12 points in the final 7 minutes of regulation to rally Sacramento from a 15-point deficit.

The 6-foot-6 guard, selected fourth overall in last year's draft, leads all first-year players in scoring (20.5 points per game) but had been in a minor slump. He was held under 13 points in three of his previous four games, the only exception being a 32-point effort in a 115-113 loss to San Antonio last Wednesday night.

Omri Casspi, another Sacramento rookie, had 18 points versus the Knicks. The 6-9 swingman has been another bright spot for the Kings, averaging 12.1 points.

Evans finds second wind, lifts Kings over Pistons

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (NBA.com exclusive) -- Star players find ways to make big plays, even when their bodies are screaming for rest.

The league's highest-scoring rookie proved he could do that Wednesday night and gave his team something unusual -- a winning streak. Tyreke Evans scored seven of his 13 points in the final 5:23, lifting Sacramento to a 103-97 victory over Detroit at The Palace.

Evans played 45 minutes and scored 27 points in an overtime win at New York Tuesday and was dealing with the after-effects when he took the court.

"I couldn't feel my legs tonight," he said. "After that game against the Knicks, my right leg just felt like it was stuck in quicksand. I was just trying to draw double teams and kick it to my teammates."

Somehow, Evans found a little extra oxygen stored in his 6-foot-6, 220-frame to put away the Pistons in a nip-and-tuck game that neither club led by more than eight points. Evans made a runner with the shot clock about to expire for an 89-85 Kings lead, then followed with a layup after a Detroit turnover.

"Coming in, this was going to be a game he would have to fight through. Especially when you're traveling, it's tiring." said Kevin Martin, who led the Kings with 26. "He did a great job of managing the offense and just hanging in there and then made a couple of big plays down the stretch."

In the final minute, Evans stole Rodney Stuckey's pass and dunked in transition to make it 99-92. The Pistons never got closer than four points again.

"You've just got to have that will to say that you want it," said Evans, who is averaging 20.3 points heading into the All-Star break and his appearance in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge Friday. "In the fourth quarter, coach [Paul Westphal] tells me it's my time to take over the game. I got the ball in my hands and did what I had to do to get to the basket and make layups."

The Kings, who had lost 18 of their last 21, won back-to-back games for the first time since defeating Milwaukee Dec. 19 and Chicago Dec. 21 on the road.

"Our team is getting better," Westphal said. "One of our problems has been we let go of leads in the fourth quarter. Two nights in a row, we did just the opposite. Tonight our defense really stiffened up and we actually got some stops, which is what you have to do to win road games in this league."

It also helps to have strong bench contributions. Beno Udrih and Andres Nocioni delivered that for the Kings, combining for 35 points.

Udrih scored 18 of his 22 before halftime.

"We were having a hard time playing with any energy," Westphal said.

"Nocioni and Beno came in and were very aggressive and changed the whole tone of the game for us."

The Pistons wasted Tayshaun Prince's best outing this season. Prince went 11-for-15 for a season-high 23 points but Detroit's top three guards, Richard Hamilton, Stuckey and Ben Gordon, shot a combined 9-for-39.

Hamilton and Stuckey also committed eight of Detroit's 12 turnovers while Gordon missed all eight of his shots.

Head coach John Kuester was perplexed by his team's fourth-quarter collapse after an impressive 93-81 win at Milwaukee Tuesday.

"It seemed like we weren't as poised as we were the night before," he said. "We go from being so poised to not being as in control as we had been. It seemed like we were rushing things. These guys wanted to win so badly tonight but sometimes when you want something so badly you end up rushing, as opposed to doing things like you did the night before."

The Pistons, who made 10 straight fourth-quarter shots against the Bucks, shot 30.4 percent while being outscored 25-18 in the fourth.

While Evans picked up his performance, counterpart Stuckey shot 0-for-5 and committed three turnovers in the final quarter.

"It's very disappointing," Charlie Villanueva said. "We let that one slip away. We gave them this game. We will spend a couple days off, get away from basketball and be focused on Monday."

After seeing his club shoot 51.3 percent on the second end of a back-to-back, Westphal had a very different feeling about the All-Star break.

"We hate to have this break happen right now," he said.
