Bobcats-Raptors Preview

The Toronto Raptors seem to playing their best basketball as they get ready to try to avenge their worst loss of the season.

The Raptors will try to extend their season-high win streak to five Wednesday night when they host the Charlotte Bobcats, who have lost six straight on the road.

Toronto (15-17) is turning in its best stretch of defense during this win streak, holding opponents under 100 points in each game to improve to 12-0 when doing so.

"It's not a big deal to us," forward Chris Bosh said. "You start thinking about that, you'll lose 98-99."

Bosh led the way with 25 points and 16 rebounds Sunday in a 102-95 victory over Detroit. Jarrett Jack added 17 points and Andrea Bargnani scored 16.

The Pistons shot 40.0 percent, marking the third straight game Toronto has held an opponent to 40 percent or less.

"We're playing better defense and everything, we still can work on our rebounding," Bosh said. "But we're finding a way to win basketball games, that's the best part for me. I don't really care how you do it, I just like to win."

Toronto will be facing Charlotte (12-17) for the first time since the Bobcats posted their most lopsided victory in franchise history, 116-81 on Nov. 25. Gerald Wallace had 31 points and 13 rebounds and Stephen Jackson added 23 points for the Bobcats, who held the Raptors to their lowest point total of the season.

That game, though, was in Charlotte and the Bobcats have been a different team away from home. They are 1-13 on the road for the second-worst mark in the league.

"We've gotta figure out something on the road," Wallace said. "I think Toronto, they're a great offensive team. They have shooters all the way out to the assistant coaches. So we're going to have to figure out something for us."

Wallace had 21 points and 14 rebounds in a 94-84 home victory over Milwaukee on Monday in which Charlotte led by 22 at halftime and had five players finish in double figures in points. That effort came on the heels of a 98-91 loss at Oklahoma City on Saturday.

"That's a great win after Oklahoma City to come out with that kind of energy," coach Larry Brown said. "And we got a lot of guys' help."

Flip Murray scored 16 off the bench and Stephen Graham added 11.

"Our bench players came in and did a great job for us," Wallace said. "They brought great energy. They provided great offense and defense and they were key to this win tonight."

The Bobcats will be looking to again neutralize Jack, who made 1 of 9 shots and matched a season low with two points in last month's meeting. Jack has played much better since moving into the starting lineup Dec. 8, averaging 13.0 points and 5.9 assists while shooting 52.9 percent.

"You don't want to get too high or too low because it's a long season," Jack said. "It's only 31 games. We haven't eclipsed the mark that we really want to get to yet."

Bargnani, Bosh help Raptors hold off Bobcats

TORONTO (NBA.com exclusive) -- It was chippy, gritty and sloppy.

That was fine with Chris Bosh.

"Sometimes you have to take a win like that," Bosh said. "I'll take them all."

Despite 33 points and 13 rebounds from Bosh, Andrea Bargnani had one of the biggest plays of the game as he hit a huge 3-pointer with 10.9 seconds remaining to effectively clinch the 107-103 victory for the Toronto Raptors as they got revenge on the Charlotte Bobcats for a blowout loss in Charlotte earlier this season.

With the officials allowing a lot of contact from the start, tempers threatened to flare up in the final minute of the third quarter when Marcus Banks and Gerald Wallace were called for a double-foul and Stephen Graham and Banks picked up double-technicals. While the Bobcats seemed to get caught up in the missed and controversial calls, the Raptors used the extra emotion to fuel them towards their fifth straight win.

They did so without starter Hedo Turkoglu in the second half after he sustained a right knee contusion near the end of the first half and did not return.

Coming into the game, the Bobcats were averaging 17 turnovers per contest. Wednesday night, they topped that before the end of the third quarter.

Finishing with 23 turnovers that led to 33 points for Toronto, the Bobcats fell to 1-14 on the road despite shooting 54 percent in the game and holding Toronto to just 27 percent shooting in the final 12 minutes.

After the game, coach Larry Brown did not have much to say to the media, answering one question before quickly walking back to the locker room.

"We didn't take care of the ball," Brown said. "One point down, we didn't run something on the missed shot. We turn it over. We turn it over in a critical situation without running anything. ... The defense was pretty solid, but when you give up 30 points on turnovers on the road it's too big a hill to climb. And they made big shots. They made big plays and we didn't."

Wallace finished with 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Bobcats, and he kept things as simple as his coach did.

"It ain't hard to figure out where you lost the game at," Wallace said. "It's right in front of our face. It's something we've got to do a better job of as a team. Take care of the ball on the road. I think we do a pretty good job at home, but we do a lousy job on the road."

Despite their 20 turnovers through three, the Bobcats only trailed by four points going into the fourth quarter thanks to a buzzer-beating three from Marco Belinelli, who scored 13 points off the bench. In the fourth, the Raptors went up by as many as seven before Charlotte fought back to lead by one with under two minutes to play.

A Bosh bucket gave the Raptors the lead back and then Raymond Felton lost the ball on Charlotte's 23rd and final turnover of the game. Antoine Wright dove for it and screamed for a timeout with 32.5 seconds left, setting up the 3-pointer by Bargnani that put the Raptors up four.

"I thought Jarrett (Jack) did a good job swinging [the ball] and Andrea had the option to either shoot it or swing it to the corner," Triano explained. "I like the fact that he shot it."

Bosh was happy with Wright's decision to call for timeout.

"That was a big play," Bosh said. "Antoine's a pro. He was ready."

Felton didn't want to talk about the broken possession in which he lost the ball to Wright.

"The ball got loose," Felton said, staring straight ahead as the locker room emptied. "That's all I'm going to say."

The mood in the Bobcats' locker room matched that of their coaches as players knew they had let a precious road victory slip way with their sloppy play.

"We had a chance to win this game. Bargnani hit a great shot but you can't come out on the road, have that many turnovers and expect to win the game," Stephen Jackson said.

Jackson played a game-high 46 minutes and scored a team-high 30 points in the loss for Charlotte, but also had seven of the team's turnovers.

"Turnovers lost this game for us," he continued. "I took a bad three in the fourth quarter on a fast break. ... We've just got to make better decisions."
