Trail Blazers-Bucks Preview

It's been three years since Milwaukee last beat the Portland Trail Blazers. The Bucks will likely need a healthy Brandon Jennings to help change that.

Despite a knee injury, the emerging star guard is expected to play Saturday night as the host Bucks try to avoid a sixth consecutive loss to the injury-plagued Trail Blazers.

Averaging a team-leading 21.1 points per game, Jennings hyperextended his knee in the second half Wednesday in Milwaukee's 117-95 home win over Toronto that snapped a four-game losing streak.

"I went to the rack, came down funny and just hyperextended it,'' Jennings said. "I don't like knee injuries anyway, I've never had any, but from seeing other people with knee injures, you can be out a long time.''

Jennings, however, doesn't believe the injury is serious and expects to start as the Bucks (10-11) try for their first win over Portland since Dec. 6, 2006.

The 10th overall pick in the 2009 draft, Jennings was shooting 32.5 percent and averaging 16.0 points over his previous nine games before going 8 of 14 from floor to finish with a team-high 22 points as the Bucks shot 52.5 percent and had seven players in double figures for the first time since March 7.

"We were just trying to stop the losing streak, that's the main thing,'' Jennings said. "For me, I think I just have to start attacking more. I come off a little passive at first and I need to be more aggressive.''

Milwaukee will likely need Jennings to be the latter in this contest. The Bucks averaged 95.2 points while losing eight of nine prior to Wednesday's victory, and 84.5 in a pair of losses to the Trail Blazers last season.

The Bucks, however, could have former All-Star Michael Redd back after he missed seven straight games with a sore left knee since returning for three after sitting out nine in a row with a strained tendon in the same knee.

Redd, a career 20.4-point scorer, is averaging 9.8 in five games this season, but 21.0 in 13 all-time against Portland.

The Trail Blazers (14-10), also hit hard by injuries, look to bounce back from a 104-99 loss at Cleveland on Friday.

Brandon Roy scored 23 points, LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 and Andre Miller added 20 for Portland, which dressed nine players and fell to 1-2 on a four-game road trip.

With Greg Oden out for the season with a knee injury suffered last weekend and Travis Outlaw (foot) unlikely to return until February at the earliest, backup guard Rudy Fernandez (sciatic pain) could miss a fifth straight game for the Trail Blazers, losers of five of seven.

Injuries aside, Roy knows the Trail Blazers must play better.

"We have to or we'll get beat by 30,'' said Roy, who's averaging 26.4 points in his last five games and 22.6 in five career contests against the Bucks. "We have no room for error. At the beginning of the season, we thought we did. Now if we relax for one quarter, we can get blown out by any team.''

Roy had 30 in Portland's 96-84 win at Milwaukee in the teams' most recent meeting March 21.

Bogut leads the Bucks to a double-overtime win

MILWAUKEE (NBA.com exclusive) -- Replay gaveth to each team on Saturday night at the Bradley Center, but only one team could do the taking.

Brandon Jennings' 12-footer with 4.9 seconds left in the first overtime forced another five minutes, and the Milwaukee Bucks then took control in the second overtime for a satisfying 108-101 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Milwaukee won its second straight after losing eight of its previous nine and got back .500 at 11-11.

The Trail Blazers, who only dressed nine players and also were without coach Nate McMillan because of an injured Achilles' tendon, fell to 14-11 with their second loss in two nights and their sixth in eight games.

Jennings' tying shot came seconds after a replay review overturned an out-of-bounds call and gave Milwaukee possession.

A replay review at the end of regulation negated a tip-in basket by Milwaukee's Andrew Bogut that would have won the game. Instead, it went to overtime tied at 87.

"I thought it was (good)," Bogut said. "I thought I was fouled on the first tip, to be honest. I got rugby tackled on that one. Then the second one, I thought it would be good because I got it off so quickly."

Bogut led the Bucks with 27 points and nine rebounds. Luke Ridnour added 20 points in 22 minutes off the bench and rookie point guard Brandon Jennings finished with 18 points and 11 assists after not attempting a shot in the first half.

After nearly winning the game in regulation, the Bucks scored the first hoop of overtime and then watched Portland run off the next eight points.

"It was tough, but coach said in the huddle, 'If this isn't good, we've got to regroup and get the win,'" Bogut said of his negated tip. "We showed a lot of courage. We were down six at one stage in that first overtime, so to come back and get the win is huge for us."

With Milwaukee trailing, 95-89, Ridnour entered and ended the run with a driving shot in the lane.

"We hung in there," Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. "Luke Ridnour came back in the game and gave us a big lift in the first overtime so we could even get it into the second overtime. He got a basket right away and settled us down."

A jumper by Carlos Delfino pulled the Bucks within a bucket with 1:30 left.

The Trail Blazers failed on their next two possessions -- a 24-second violation and a missed shot by Brandon Roy -- setting up a hectic final 38 seconds.

Delfino missed on a 3-pointer and then missed on a drive to the basket that was disrupted by Joel Przybilla (four blocks). In the scramble for the rebound the ball was knocked out and awarded to Portland with 18.7 seconds left.

But a review showed Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge touched it last, and Jennings made the reversal count. After a switch left the 7-foot Przybilla outside on Jennings, the rookie started to drive, forcing Przybilla to retreat. Jennings then pulled up and nailed a 12-footer with 4.9 seconds left.

"I was thinking about shooting a three to take the lead," Jennings said, "but I decided to just go right at him and back up. He gave me a lot of space and I just shot the jump shot."

Those were just the fifth and sixth second-chance points for Milwaukee as Portland finished with a 23-6 edge in that category. But they certainly came at the right time.

Roy missed after a timeout, and the Bucks then took control in the second overtime. Ridnour's jumper gave Milwaukee the lead for good at 99-97 with 3:36 left, and Delfino added a 3-pointer. Portland never got closer than three the rest of the way.

"The group gave us everything they had and Milwaukee was very resilient," said Portland assistant coach Dean Demopoulos, who was filling in for McMillan.

Aldridge led the Blazers with 31 point and 11 rebounds, and Roy added 23 but was just 8 for 24.

Forward Martell Webster had a 3-pointer and a 4-point play as Portland outscored Milwaukee, 22-8, over the final 7:15 of the second quarter to take a 44-39 lead into the half.

Jennings didn't attempt a shot in the first half -- he said he was tentative playing with a brace on his left knee after hyperextending the knee on Wednesday -- but came out aggressive and scored 12 third-quarter points to help Milwaukee take a 69-59 lead into the fourth.

"It was a little different for me at first and I wasn't comfortable," Jennings said of his passive first half playing with the brace. "But the second half came and I was just like, 'Forget it, just play basketball.'"
