The Oklahoma City Thunder didn't win their ninth game last season until late January.

They'll get a chance to accomplish that feat Friday night.

Oklahoma City looks to build on one of its most impressive victories of the season as it hosts a Milwaukee Bucks team trying to avoid its first three-game slide.

In their first season in Oklahoma City after being relocated from Seattle, the Thunder opened 3-29 and didn't win their ninth game in 2008-09 until beating Golden State 122-121 on Jan. 21.

Oklahoma City (8-7) will look to reach that win total Friday at the Ford Center, where it opens a five-game homestand following Tuesday's 104-94 victory over Utah in which Kevin Durant scored 28 and was one shy of a career high with eight assists.

"We passed the ball and made shots and we executed our offense all the way through," said Durant, averaging 27.1 points. "Instead of two passes, then a shot or one pass and a shot, we got maybe four passes and shot."

Oklahoma City had 25 assists on 37 field goals.

"Monday's practice out in Utah was one of the best of the season and then I thought today's was right up there, too," coach Scott Brooks told the Thunder's official Web site Wednesday. "The guys came in with good energy and focus. We just have to keep doing that. This will be a great opportunity for us on Friday night."

Oklahoma City will look to continue its strong play versus the Bucks, who close their four-game trip following back-to-back losses.

Milwaukee (8-5) is trying to rebound from Wednesday's 102-99 overtime loss to New Orleans, a game the Bucks led by five with less than a minute remaining in regulation.

Point guard Brandon Jennings, who leads all rookies with 23.4 points and 5.8 assists per game, hit two free throws with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Bucks a three-point lead, but Hornets rookie guard Darren Collison made a tying 3-pointer with 7.5 remaining.

After Jennings had the ball tipped away by Collison as time expired in the fourth, he lost the ball to Collison with 45 seconds left in overtime with Milwaukee looking to break a 97-all tie.

"That changed the whole game," said Jennings, averaging 13.0 points on 27.8 percent shooting during the two-game slide. "We had the ball and we had a chance to go up, but they went up."

Jennings will be matched up with another former UCLA point guard Friday in Russell Westbrook. The second-year guard is averaging 18.1 points, 6.4 assists and 4.4 rebounds in his last seven games. In Milwaukee's last visit to Oklahoma City, Westbrook had 13 points and four assists off the bench in a 98-87 loss Oct. 29, 2008.

Michael Redd, who hit three 3s and scored 20 in that matchup for Milwaukee, missed a potential tying 3 at the end of Wednesday's game. He shot 4 of 16 from the field and scored 11 off the bench in his second game since missing nine with a strained tendon in his left knee.

The Bucks have won three straight over the Thunder franchise, holding Durant to 15.5 points in a pair of victories last season.

Durant outshines Jennings in battle of budding stars

OKLAHOMA CITY  (NBA.com exclusive) -- Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant dominated, Milwaukee Bucks rookie sensation Brandon Jennings struggled and a national televison audience watching on ESPN saw the Thunder cruise to a 108-90 win over the Bucks inside a sold-out Ford Center.

"It's good to be back home," said Thunder coach Scott Brooks, whose team has played 7 of its last 9 games on the road.

"The energy inside the building was great."

Durant ripped the nets for 33 points while grabbing 12 rebounds to lead the Thunder. Jennings managed just 12 points, half his average, on just 3-for-11 shooting.

"I was getting some good looks," Jennings said, "I just wasn't knocking anything down. They weren't shutting me down so that I couldn't get to where I was going. I just wasn't knocking them down."

"We just got overwhelmed at the start of the game and especially at the start of the 3rd quarter," said Bucks coach Scott Skiles.

Oklahoma City (9-7) went on a 17-0 run to start the second half blowing open what had been a tight game with (8-6) Milwaukee.

"I thought they took over the game at that point," Skiles said. "They just drove straight by our guys to the basket. We just weren't sharp enough to come here and beat a team like Oklahoma City."

"The 3rd quarter was great for us," Brooks told reporters. "We did a good job challenging their shots."

Milwaukee missed its first 12 shots of the 3rd quarter and a 51-50 Thunder lead at halftime ballooned to 68-50 with 5:30 left in the 3rd.

"Westbrook penetrated at will and so did Durant," said a disappointed Skiles. "There were plays out there for us we just couldn't make them."

Thunder players and coaches said before the game it was critical the team get off to a fast start and Oklahoma City did, shooting 50% in the 1st quarter and limiting Milwaukee to just 38%. Bucks rookie sensation Brandon Jennings played only half the 1st quarter and scored just 2 points on 1-for-3 shooting. He was held without a shot in the 2nd quarter.

Oklahoma City played an aggressive switching defense on Jennings with four players guarding the rookie at various times in the first half. Russell Westbrook, Thabo Sefolosha, Kevin Durant and just acquired guard Mike Wilks all took their turns.

"I just play my game regardless of who I'm going against," said Westbrook. The 2nd year Oklahoma City point guard had 20 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

"I thought Russell was really good tonight," Brooks said. "He was great on Jennings."

Sefolosha who also pestered Jennings had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

"It was a real team effort, we had fun tonight," he said. "We're building some confidence now."

Oklahoma City has won two in a row and three of its last four. Milwaukee is going in the other direction dropping three straight.

"They're a much improved team," Skiles said. "The way they took control in the third was embarrassing for us."

Hakim Warrick and Carlos Delfino led Milwaukee with 15 points apiece. Ersan Ilyasova had a double-double for the Bucks scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Oklahoma City's defense held Milwaukee to 37.8% shooting and dominated the Bucks in the paint outscoring them 48-28 inside.

Thunder players were hoping to show a national television audience that times have changed for the team that won only 23 games last season.

"Everybody gets pumped up for natonal TV," Westbrook said. "I thought we did a good job tonight."
