Philadelphia 76ers coach Eddie Jordan will be provided with a stark reminder of the one-year anniversary of his firing by Washington.

That day is Tuesday, when the Wizards host the Sixers in a matchup of slumping - and in Washington's case, bickering - teams.

Washington (3-9) parted ways with Jordan last Nov. 24 with the team off to a 1-10 start. He was in his sixth season with the Wizards, guiding them to four straight postseason appearances from 2005-08.

Jordan landed with Philadelphia (5-8) on June 1, signing a three-year contract. The 76ers have been inconsistent under his guidance, losing six of eight after a strong start.

Washington, though, certainly doesn't appear better off for having gotten rid of Jordan.

The Wizards finished an Eastern Conference-worst 19-63 after turning the team over to Ed Tapscott on an interim basis. They replaced Tapscott in April, signing Flip Saunders to a four-year, $18 million contract, but have lost eight of nine.

Washington fell 106-84 to San Antonio on Saturday night, a day after losing 127-108 to Oklahoma City, and the frustration is starting to show.

"Everyone's got their own individual goals, I guess. Hidden agendas," said Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas, who made three All-Star appearances under Jordan. "You can't win like that. I guess when you start losing, everyone wants to start pointing fingers everywhere else. I converted my game to try and get people involved."

Arenas had 18 points and Antawn Jamison added 15 versus the Spurs, but Washington shot a season-low 33.3 percent. The Wizards have lost six games by double digits.

"We're very much in a bad situation," Saunders said. "A lot of guys are frustrated, including me."

To make matters worse, the Wizards could be without guard Mike Miller for a month after he strained his right calf in the first quarter. Miller, in his first season with Washington after being acquired from Minnesota in June, is averaging 9.8 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 56.5 percent (13 for 23) from 3-point range.

The Sixers also suffered a key injury when top reserve Marreese Speights partially tore the medial collateral ligament in his left knee Nov. 14. Philadelphia has been missing the big man's 13.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

The Sixers were held to less than 100 points for the sixth straight game Saturday night, losing 97-91 to Cleveland. Still, they were much happier with that performance than their 102-97 loss to Memphis the previous day.

"Something that we do sometimes is kind of play to our level of competition," guard Andre Iguodala said.

Louis Williams continues to be a bright spot for the Sixers. Jordan made Williams a starter for the first time in his career this season, and the fifth-year guard has blossomed.

Williams averaged 23.0 points and 5.2 assists while shooting 54.1 percent over his last four games. He averaged 17.8 points in four games against Washington last season, helping Philadelphia sweep the series.

The Sixers have won six of the last seven meetings.

With heavy hearts, Wizards hold off Sixers' late rally

WASHINGTON (NBA.com exclusive) -- The Washington Wizards and their former coach, Eddie Jordan, expected to play a game for bragging rights in the building where Jordan had been fired one year ago to the day.

But the passing of a lion of the NBA overshadowed the game at Verizon Center.

Abe Pollin, the longest tenured owner in the league, passed away earlier in the afternoon at 85. The owner's box was empty, as it had been for months as Pollin's health continued to fail. But according to Jordan -- whose new team, the Philadelphia 76ers, came up on the short end of a 108-107 decision -- Pollins' presence was in the building.

"That was him knocking that last shot out of the basket," said Jordan, whom Pollin hired in 2003. "He was making sure that shot wasn't going in."

Jordan, who was fired right before Thanksgiving last season after a 1-10 start, was referring to Philadelphia guard Louis Williams' missed potential game-winning 3-point shot at the buzzer. Williams finished with a team-high 26 points -- 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Williams led a furious rally that saw the 76ers reduce what had been a 96-82 Washington lead after the Wizards' Brendan Haywood scored on a tip-in with 8:06 left in the fourth.

But Philadelphia rallied, and after Williams beat Gilbert Arenas (17 points, eight assists) to the basket on a driving layup to pull the 76ers to within 108-107 with 40 seconds left, the final outcome was still in doubt.

"They came at us pretty hard in the fourth quarter," Wizards coach Flip Saunders said after his team won for just the second time in their last 10 games.

Antawn Jamison paced the Wizards with a game-high 32 points. Jamison, playing his fourth game of the season after missing early games with a shoulder injury, also had a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Wizards were without the services of starting forward Caron Butler, who missed the game due to a sore right ankle. However, in his place Saunders turned to Nick Young, who responded with a season-high 20 points.

Philadelphia made just 40 percent of its field goals and some of that could be attributed to the way second-year center JaVale McGee patrolled the lane for Washington. McGee played just 14 minutes but still managed to block a career-high six shots.

Six Philadelphia (5-9) players, led by Williams, finished in double-figures. Thaddeus Young added 23 points on 10-for-19 shooting, Samuel Dalembert added 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots, and Andre Iguodala finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

However, the Sixers, who were without key reserve Marreese Speights, got very little production from Elton Brand. Brand sat out the entire fourth quarter with a sore hamstring and finished with just four points.

But overshadowing the play on the court was the pall that hung over the building, a $220 million edifice that Pollin built just over a decade ago with no public funds.

Arenas joked that he would miss Pollin's voice in the locker room congratulating the team following a big win.

"He used to swing at you and sometimes he would hit you in the face," Arenas said jokingly, "I just tried to get out of his way. We're going to miss him a lot around here.

Jamison might have been Pollin's favorite player on the team. Jamison recently spoke with him and knew that his health was in decline. Jamison heard the news just five minutes before he arrived at Verizon Center.

"It shocked me," Jamison said. "We all knew that he hadn't been doing too well lately. I talked to him about a week and a half ago and mentally he was still fine. He was telling me that I was his guy and thanking me for all the things I had done for him.

"After games now it's going to be hard not to hear his voice telling you 'good game'," Jamison said. "He has done so much for this organization and my family. He loved this team. For us it was tough but we knew that Mr. Pollin was going to want us to come out here and find a way to get it done.
