The Minnesota Timberwolves seem headed to yet another terrible season. That doesn't mean the Los Angeles Clippers can take them lightly.

After barely winning the first matchup, the Clippers look to hand the Timberwolves their 13th straight loss and keep them winless on the road Monday night.

Minnesota has lost 12 straight since winning its season opener 95-93 against New Jersey on Oct. 28. A loss to the Clippers (5-9) would match the Timberwolves' longest skid from last season, set from Nov. 29 to Dec. 23.

Minnesota has lost its last eight games by double digits and has surrendered 113.0 points per contest en route to going 0-6 on the road, including a 106-78 loss to Portland on Saturday night.

"We're not secure as a team, we're not together as a team, and we don't have enough experience as a team," Wolves coach Kurt Rambis said. "When we get in these tough situations, we don't know what to do."

Rambis' team couldn't find a way to pull out a close game with Los Angeles on Nov. 2, losing 93-90 after Eric Gordon made the go-ahead layup with 1:32 to play. The Clippers committed 18 turnovers and shot 42.7 percent, but were able to beat the Wolves for the second time in the teams' last seven meetings.

Chris Kaman had 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead Los Angeles. Kaman and Baron Davis have been carrying most of the Clippers' scoring load, combining to average 36.7 points a contest.

The duo, though, got plenty of help in a 106-99 victory over Denver on Friday night. Rasual Butler had 27 points off the bench and Al Thornton added 18.

"We're so deep that anyone can lead us in scoring," Davis said. "If we continue to play like that, I think we're going to have different leading scorers every night."

Los Angeles had lost five of six, with Butler shooting 33.9 percent during that span.

The veteran swingman had been struggling to contribute after being acquired in an offseason trade with New Orleans. He averaged a career-high 11.2 points for the Hornets last season.

"I just hadn't been shooting the ball lately. I've been playing a pretty good floor game, but my shot just was off," Butler said. "My teammates and the coaching staff have supreme confidence in my ability to shoot the ball and they continue to be positive with me."

Kaman, meanwhile, was held to a season-low 13 points. The veteran center is off to an outstanding start after struggling with injuries over the past two seasons.

Kaman will likely be matched at times with Minnesota's Al Jefferson, who has been inconsistent in 11 games after undergoing knee surgery in February.

Jefferson had 20 points and 10 rebounds versus the Blazers in his second game back after the death of his grandmother. He's averaging 16.0 points after posting a career-best 23.1 last season.

Jefferson is averaging 24.6 points and 11.5 rebounds in his last seven games against the Clippers.

Thornton gets more comfortable, paces win over Wolves

LOS ANGELES (NBA.com exclusive) -- Al Thornton is finding his comfort zone. After dropping 25 pounds during the offseason and struggling with his offensive game early on, Thornton proved again Monday night that he's rounding into form.

Thornton scored a season-high 31 points, his seventh straight game in double figures, to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 91-87 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at Staples Center.

"I'm definitely getting my legs back," Thornton said

The victory came on the heels of the Clippers' upset victory Friday night against the Denver Nuggets and sent the Timberwolves reeling to their 13th consecutive loss. With a 1-13 record, Minnesota has equaled its worst start in franchise history.

"I have faith this young team will get better," said Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis.

The Clippers (6-9) know about losing streaks. They dropped their first four games this season, causing some reshuffling to the starting lineup. Thornton was the first to be relegated to the bench, but he regained his starting role when Eric Gordon went down with a groin injury.

After scoring in single digits in seven of the first eight games, Thornton has been nearly impossible to stop on the offensive end. Thornton said a big difference has been getting comfortable with his new playing weight.

"I never lost that much weight in such a short period of time and it took a while for me to adjust to that," he said. "I'll never do that again."

Thornton scored 10 points in the final quarter, which began with the Clippers trailing by one point.

Sebastian Telfair, who came off the bench to score a season-high 17 points and played more minutes (26) than starter Baron Davis (24), sank back-to-back jumpers to open the fourth quarter and the Clippers took a lead they never relinquished. Thornton's slam dunk on a fast break extended the lead to eight points midway through the final quarter.

The Timberwolves made one final push, cutting the deficit to two points on a 3-pointer by Ryan Gomes with 1:05 left, but Davis sealed the victory with his only points of the game, a fast-break layup with 8.5 seconds remaining.

Davis was 1-for-10 from the field and committed four turnovers. Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy pulled him from the game after he committed turnovers on two of the first three possessions of the second half. Telfair remained in the game until 7:14 remained in the final quarter.

"He was playing well for us," Dunleavy said of Telfair, who was traded from Minnesota in the offseason. "When you're playing well, you're going to get some minutes."

Down the stretch, Dunleavy had both Telfair and Davis on the floor, with Davis playing the shooting guard position. Dunleavy said he kept both players in the game because Telfair was having more success guarding Minnesota's smaller guards and Davis is the team's top free-thrown shooter and is a strong rebounder for a guard.

Marcus Camby grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds, including six on the offensive end and scored 12 points. Center Chris Kaman contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, but did some of his best work guarding Al Jefferson, holding the Wolves' top scorer to 13 points.

"This team is more than just Baron, Al and Eric scoring," Camby said. "I think we're more balanced than that."

Rookie point guard Jonny Flynn led the way for the Timberwolves, scoring a career-high 17 points. Gomes added 15 points and Corey Brewer had 13 for Minnesota.

"I thought we were playing well the whole game," Flynn said. "We never trailed by too many points, [but] our shots stopped going into the basket and we were not executing in the paint. We began to take matters into our own hands and that caused us to lose the game."
