New York 103, Philadelphia 90
NEW YORK, Oct. 24 (AP) -- Zach Randolph and Fred Jones, acquired in the same draft night trade, each scored 16 points to lead the New York Knicks to a 103-90 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.
Nate Robinson scored 20 points, all in the second half, to help New York beat Philadelphia for the second time in this preseason. Randolph also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who also beat the 76ers 101-92 in the teams' opener at Columbia, S.C.
Andre Miller had 22 points and Reggie Evans added 20 for the 76ers. Andre Iguodala finished with 12, shooting 3-of-13 from the field.
Randolph, who averaged 23.6 points and 10.1 rebounds last season, was the key player in the deal that sent Channing Frye and Steve Francis to Portland. The Knicks also acquired Dan Dickau, who they bought out, and Jones, who was thought to be a candidate to be dropped if New York wanted to make room for Demetris Nichols or even Allan Houston.
But Isiah Thomas coached Jones in Indiana and has made it clear he expects the swingman to stick. Jones, a good perimeter defender and on a team that doesn't have many, showed he can contribute on offense as well.
He scored all of his points in the second quarter, when the Knicks went ahead for good, and finished 5-of-6 from the field. He made both 3-point attempts.
The Knicks led by two after one quarter before Jones helped them build a cushion in the second. He hit a 3-pointer, then added his second powerful dunk of the period in a 25-second span that opened a 42-32 advantage with 5:15 remaining in the half.
Jones' two free throws with 6.3 seconds left gave New York a 50-44 halftime lead.
The Sixers never got closer than six in the third quarter, with the Knicks extending the lead to 15 on Robinson's three-point play before taking a 75-62 advantage into the final 12 minutes.
New York played without starting forward Quentin Richardson, who has a sore left ankle.
The Knicks wrap up their preseason schedule Friday at home against New Jersey. The 76ers visit the Nets on Thursday for their last contest.
