Carmelo Anthony is not the only reason the Denver Nuggets' offense continues to pile up the points.
The NBA's top offensive team will look to win its fifth straight game Sunday when it hosts the Los Angeles Clippers.
Denver's fast-paced offense has the Nuggets (7-4) averaging 111.2 points, and five players are averaging in double figures. The Nuggets scored a season high in Friday's 140-129 win over the Golden State Warriors, their most points since a 150-145 win over Golden State on Feb. 23, 1991.
``It (felt) like a recreation game,'' said Anthony, who is averaging 30.9 points and had 30 on Friday. ``You're just out there running. You score and they come back down and score, keep going back and forth.''
Anthony holds a slight edge over Philadelphia's Allen Iverson (30.5 ppg) for the NBA scoring lead, but the 6-foot-8 small forward has a solid supporting cast to help this season.
Offseason acquisition J.R. Smith is averaging 17.5 points - almost eight points above his career average. The third-year guard added 31 points on 12-of-18 shooting against Golden State.
``I'm trying to find him,'' Anthony said. ``I'm trying to get everyone involved early in the game.''
Against Golden State, Denver scored 62 points in the paint and had 42 assists for the first time since it had as many in a 120-115 loss to Portland on Jan. 16, 1990.
Point guard Andre Miller (14.6 ppg, 8.9 assists per game), center Marcus Camby (11.3 ppg, 11.5 rebounds per game) and reserve guard Earl Boykins (12.0 ppg) have all contributed to Denver's recent run of seven wins in eight games after starting the season 0-3.
If there's a downside to the Nuggets start, it's their inability to play defense. They are last in the NBA, allowing 108.3 points per game.
``The offense we're playing right now, I think we can be (a great) team,'' Anthony said. ``With the defense, we can't.''
The Clippers (6-5) will again be searching for their first road win of the season after blowing a 16-point lead Saturday in a 104-96 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Sam Cassell had 31 points on 14-of-25 shooting, but only three in the fourth quarter, to lead the Clippers, who are 0-4 on the road this season and look to avoid losing a fourth straight game overall. Elton Brand had 21 points and 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season.
Los Angeles has been one of the better home teams in the NBA (6-1), but has struggled on the road, where it is allowing 108.4 points per game.
``We're a confident team,'' Cassell said. ``We understand we let this one slip through our hands, but we've got to find a way to win this kind of game.''
Los Angeles could be without starting center Chris Kaman, who was deactivated Saturday because of a sprained left ankle suffered in practice Friday. Kaman, who is averaging 8.2 points and 7.0 rebounds, is listed as day-to-day. Veteran Aaron Williams (4.0 points) could get the start for the second straight night in his place.
Cassell had a season-high 35 points Nov. 2 as the host Clippers won 96-95 over the Nuggets in their first meeting this season.
Miller had 21 points and Camby had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Los Angeles .
Los Angeles beat Denver 4-1 in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs last season.
