Jazz face tough challenge in playoff hunt against Spurs
San Antonio (57-16) at Utah (35-38) 9:00 pm EDT
SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- The Utah Jazz need to come up with
a big effort Tuesday against the San Antonio Spurs if they
hope to reach the postseason.
The Jazz find themselves in an uphill battle for a postseason
spot as they trail Sacramento (38-36) by 2 1/2 games for the
eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Andrei Kirilenko collected 23 points and 13 rebounds, Carlos
Boozer added 22 and 10 and Mehmet Okur chipped in 21 and 14 to
lead Utah to a 102-89 triumph at Portland on Saturday.
The Spurs own a 2 1/2 game lead over Dallas (55-19) for both the
Southwest Division title and the best record in the Western
Conference. San Antonio is also two games behind Detroit
(59-14) for the league's top mark.
San Antonio overcame a 10-point deficit Saturday with a strong
fourth-quarter performance from Manu Ginobili to defeat
Washington, 106-99. The Spurs shooting guard had 16 of his 22
points in the final period, including his team's last 14 points.
Tony Parker scored 24 of his 28 points after halftime and Tim
Duncan collected 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Spurs, who
won for the ninth time in 11 games.
