Memphis (41-31) at New Orleans (33-37) 8:00 pm EST
OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- The New Orleans Hornets have stopped
the bleeding. Now it is time to heal their wounds.
Looking to win back-to-back games for the first time in more
than a month, the Hornets take the court Friday for a matchup
with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Hornets remarkably trail Sacramento by only two games for
the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference despite losses
in 12 of their last 14 games. However, one of those victories
did come Wednesday in an 86-85 triumph over Golden State.
Rasual Butler scored 20 points, including three 3-pointers in
the final 4 1/2 minutes. Rookie Chris Paul contributed 18
points, seven assists and six rebounds as the Hornets snapped
their four-game skid despite playing without leading scorer and
rebounder David West, who was out with an ankle injury.
The Hornets have not won consecutive games since February 25-26,
while the Grizzlies are in danger of losing three straight
contests for the first time since February 23-26.
Memphis, which trails the Los Angeles Clippers by one game for
fifth place in the West, is coming off Wednesday's 86-74 defeat
against New Jersey. All-Star Pau Gasol scored 21 points and
Bobby Jackson added 18 for the Grizzlies, who lost despite
allowing fewer than 100 points for the eighth straight game.
The Hornets have won two of three meetings with the Grizzlies
this season.
