Charlie Bell had 14 points and eight assists off the bench for the Bucks (33-33), who moved within one game of Washington for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Milwaukee averted the collapse that cost it dearly in Friday's game in Toronto. The Bucks led by 16 points with six minutes left but went cold down the stretch and suffered a stunning 97-96 loss.

"I like the way we responded after last night's loss; it was pretty demoralizing," Bucks coach Terry Stotts said. "To come back with the energy that that we had tonight was good to see."

"We played the full 48 minutes tonight," forward Bobby Simmons said. "There were a few turnovers here and there, but collectively I thought we did a better job."

Redd, who scored 27 points in the first half, drained a 14-footer to give the Bucks the lead for good at 85-83 with 8:27 to play. After Sebastian Telfair and T.J. Ford traded a pair of free throws, Bell sank a foul shot and scored inside for a 90-85 lead with 4:56 to go.

Ford's jumper made it 96-88 with 39 seconds left before Milwaukee again got careless, allowing a jumper by Juan Dixon and a 3-pointer by Darius Miles around two missed free throws by Bell.

However, Redd was fouled and split a pair from the line for a 97-93 lead with eight seconds to go.

"I was just hoping that fatigue wasn't setting in from (Friday's) loss," Simmons said. "Everybody played well and we made plays when we needed to."

Simmons scored 13 points and Ford added 11 for the Bucks, who shot 45 percent (34-of-75), missed 10 free throws and were beaten on the backboards, 42-35. However, they displayed more poise in the final period.

Averaging a league-low 88.4 points per game, the Trail Blazers were without leading scorer Zach Randolph, who sat out with a bruised knee. They changed their offense and found a rhythm for the first three-plus quarters.

"We were missing Zach so we had to go with a different type of game, which was mainly pick-and-rolls and not so many post-ups," Portland coach Nate McMillan said.

Despite Redd's first-half explosion, the Blazers trailed just 50-48.

Portland grabbed the lead at 81-80 on a steal and layup by rookie Jarrett Jack and were still tied at 83-83 after a basket by Miles with 8:51 left. However, it went the next six-plus minutes without a hoop.

Miles scored 26 points and Telfair added 21 for the Blazers, who shot 51 percent (35-of-69) but committed 22 turnovers leading to 31 points for the Bucks.

"I thought we turned the ball over a little too much, but it's something we can learn from," said guard Juan Dixon, who scored 16 points off the bench.

The teams meet again Monday in Portland.

"Zach Randolph will probably play and that changes the whole complexion of the game," Stotts said.
