INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 21 (Ticker) -- Rookie Danny Granger and Anthony Johnson provided the offense. The Indiana Pacers also continued to play some tough defense.

Granger scored a season-high 22 points and Johnson added 19, leading the Pacers to a 97-75 victory over the New Orleans Hornets, who had a five-game winning streak stopped.

Led by Granger and Johnson, the Pacers completed a 6-1 homestand.

"The game has slowed down a little bit for me," Granger said. "In the beginning, everything was so fast. The more I've played, the more things have slowed down and I've found myself playing better."

Indiana held the Hornets to just 34 percent (25-of-74) shooting, the fifth opponent it limited to under 40 percent on the homestand.

"We're playing very good ball right now," Johnson said. "Our defense, and especially our defensive rebounding, has carried us."

"I guess you might look at it like our offense has spurred our defense a little," Pacers center Scot Pollard said. "We've had a lot more hustle plays and focused more on teamwork, which I think has carried over to the defensive side of the ball."

Pollard, Jeff Foster, and David Harrison combined for 21 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass. The Pacers outrebounded the Hornets, 49-39.

After building a 50-43 halftime lead, the Pacers scored the first seven points of the third quarter, capped by Peja Stojakovic' s 3-pointer.

"The key was that we took (the game) seriously from the first minute," Stojakovic said. "We followed the game plan and played with energy the entire game. Coming back to basketball after a four-day break is always tough. We didn't shoot that well, but we played good defense and got some easy buckets."

Johnson scored nine points in the third quarter, when the Pacers led by as many as 21 points. The veteran point guard made 9-of-16 shots and added three steals.

Rookie Chris Paul scored 27 points, one shy of a season high, to lead the Hornets.

"We weren't ready to play, bottom line," Hornets coach Byron Scott said. "We just can't do that coming off the All-Star break. The Pacers are trying to come out and play to try and improve on their playoff seeding and we just didn't play. No excuses."

Granger, who scored 12 points in the first half, grabbed 11 rebounds and collected three steals for Indiana, which shot 46 percent (39-of-84).

"Danny had a great night," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "We're a different team when he plays the way he did tonight."

Stojakovic collected 16 points and nine boards and Stephen Jackson finished with 11 points, six rebounds and six assists.

"We would just like to get this game out of our system," Hornets center P.J. Brown said. "Offensively, we just did not play with any energy. We didn't make good cuts or set good screens. It was a bad, horrible night."

David West - the Hornets' leading scorer and rebounder - missed the game to be with his wife and newborn child.
