LA Lakers (23-19) at Detroit (36-5) 6:30 pm EST
AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- The Detroit Pistons look to
continue the best start in franchise history when they host Kobe
Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
Owners of the NBA's best record, the Pistons are off to the
fourth-best start in league history through 41 games. At 36-5,
Detroit trails only the 1995-96 Bulls and 1971-72 Lakers (both
38-3) and the 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers, who opened 37-4.
The Pistons posted their 10th consecutive win Friday, a
hard-fought 95-89 triumph over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Chauncey Billups scored 34 points and Rasheed Wallace added 12
and 13 rebounds for Detroit, which held a 42-31 edge on the
boards.
The Pistons hope to keep rolling against a Lakers squad which
has won eight of its last 11.
Playing in his first game since his mind-boggling 81-point
performance against Toronto last Sunday, Bryant struggled early
in the Lakers' 106-105 overtime triumph over the Golden State
Warriors on Friday.
He had just five points through the first three quarters before
pouring in 25 in the fourth and overtime periods.
Smush Parker added 17 points for the Lakers, who have dropped
six of their last eight road decisions.
